Using an inn/hotel as the site for a movie? That instantly reminded me of Mackinac, but I don't think Kissuiso and Yunosagi will suddenly turn into a tourist town. The idea of filming a movie, though, is something I can totally get behind as a plot point. Didn't know Ensishi had filmmaking ambitions. Given his dialogue, it sounds like something he would've preferred to stick with. Not surprised that Satsuki is somehow integral to who he is - Ohana's doing the same to her friends.

On another side, lots of Nako this episode. She may be shy, but that doesn't mean she doesn't want to see her name in lights. And she's finally got a pool on grounds! Which means more swimsuits, more Nako showing us what she can do. Overall, a nice episode. Not that filmmaking doesn't have its complications (it does), but things went fairly smoothly, and everyone got a chance to shine.

Ending the episode with a phone call can't be good news. It can be, but it's highly unlikely.

That phone call gave me the creeps.

It can't be all sweet and nice for this arc, right? Something feels really off.

Nothing else really happened in this ep. Things are just being set up.

Next week:

It is nice to see an arc that is calm and doesn't start with Ohana bursting into somewhere because she didn't like something, but:
1. Takano's character has the attractive level of 0
2. Waka's character also is 0
So anything focused around them is not interesting.

I guess the part where that movie director got close to Waka was funny and the end's phone was intriguing, but that was it.

That was an awesome episode for Nako fans like myself. She was even more lovely than usual in this episode, I'd even go as far as to say she stole Ohana's thunder this week. The more I see her, the more I love her; I seriously can't wait for her arc (I hope we'll see her brothers, I want to see how she reacts around them). I didn't think she'd be so psyched about the prospect of featuring in a movie considering how shy she is. Ren, on the other hand, reacted exactly as I expected

I couldn't shake the feeling something was going to go horribly wrong while watching the episode. It felt off in the sense it seems to good to be true.

The storyline of this episode reminded me of what's happening in real life with Hanasaku Iroha. If an anime can boost tourism then surely, a movie can as well (if it's good, that is). Enishi was surprisingly competent this time around (his sidekick is still horribly annoying though), and it was interesting to learn he used to be an aspiring writer. In the end, Satsuki is the one who became a writer... coincidence?
As I thought, Tomoe's guess was spot-on. Enishi's a definitely a siscon.

PS:

What the hell were they trying to do here? Fly like witches?

The phone call is the director saying that the location didn't match up with his vision so the entire deal is cancelled so Enishi will try and save face by directing his own movie (hence Ohana being shot in the preview)

And yes Enishi is a major siscon.

Although I had that impression after seeing him grab Satsuki in the flashback in ep 13(?), I figured it'd be no way some siscon fetish, since he generally seemed afraid of her, esp when he complained about being pushed around by her a lot. I also thought THAT was the reason he liked Takako so much(though Takako isn't nearly as rambunctious as Satsuki was/is). Quite interesting indeed =03.

And is anyone else getting the idea that Beanman and Okami have/had something else going on behind the scenes ?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the hospital calling for Ohana that Ko got into an accident, but your guess sounds more feasible =03.

That was my guess. I REALLY liked the way Ohana was looking when she was trying to 'concentrate' .

You know what? I'm kind of interested in the fact nobody is picking on the MASSIVE Freudian issues coming from Enishi here.

"Frankly it's flabbergasting"

Enishi having random flashbacks about how Mommy isn't paying attention to him? Being awestruck at the vision of his older sister dramatically bursting out of the water while wearing a swimsuit, and in general feeling inadequate compared to her? And then making a college film about that? Dear god Enishi. You are a mind boggling walking bag of problems. Even Jirou and Takako are starting to realize how screwed up you are.

I'm betting on even more Freud next episode!

I find hilarious how meta this is. The IRL show Hanasaku Iroha creates allot of tourism for this region...and now they're doing the same thing INSIDE the show. I loled.

That wouldn't make sense at all. This entire episode has focused on Enishi, setting up things with him to be resolved next episode. That development wouldn't make sense.

Loved this episode. Lots of fun with the girls (including a few Tomoe scenes) plus a bit of character development for Enishi. The girls have really developed some good chemistry together over the course of this show.

My favourite moment was probably the bit where Ohana, Nako, and Tomoe start signaling for Minchi to come over to join their huddle.

I'm wondering what Ohana and Nako were doing with the broomsticks though... couldn't stop thinking of that Strike Witches II episode.

I'm thinking that was actually the inspiration for this episode.

Surprised to see how far Enishi and Takako go back, as well as how competent they came across this episode compared to previously. Kind of pours cold water on my theory that Enishi and Tomoe will hook up.

Curious to see what Jiromaru's script turns out to be like.

It was just a joke . No episode should go by without mentioning Ko in some form or another at least once .

Kou getting revenge for leaving him hanging all this time? Or is it that girl at the shop? Perhaps Enishi's hatred/infatuation of Satsuki being imposed on Ohana?

- Jiromaru (a reasonably attractive young adult man) threatens Beanman with bondage. Beanman blushes. Tomoe mentions this incident again, causing Beanman to blush.

-Sui is completely at ease with having her daughter, Satsuki (not a reasonably attractive young adult man), hanging around Beanman naked. Beanman isn't particularly perturbed by this.

-Enishi (a reasonably attractive young adult man) embraces Beanman. Beanman blushes

Yeah I got that feeling too. Actually, when Enishi said he liked the directors previous films and one of them was called "Wet Button" I had a sudden premonition that the film would actually turn out to be porno film. The fact that they enlisted Jirou to help with the writing and asked the girls to take part didn't help. And then there's that phone ringing at the end.

It still seems a bit much to label him gay though. Perhaps I should watch these scenes again. To be honest, I never really paid too much attention to him unless he was with Okami or Ohana.

Also. Poor Enishi. Apparantly he's not butch enough looking to be the stand in for the actor

The actress though...seems VERY satisfied with Renji.

It's rather significant with regards to him being with Satsuki in the bath. Sui is tight assed about the importance of work and the inn coming before her children, but she IS still a mother with conservative values. She's not going to let her daughter hang out naked around a man...unless she considered him completely non threatening.

And I don't really think I'm * labeling* Beanman as being gay. That almost implies that it's a character flaw for him.

What's with the dramatic phone ringing cliffhanger? It's ominous but it probably won't be that big of a deal at all.

That was my first thought. At first, I kind of figured one of the other inns had made them a more attractive offer, but then I remembered the other managers seemed fairly resigned to letting Enishi sink or swim on his own after he turned them down.

I'm guessing Grandma gave Enishi her blessing because she knows that film-making is his passion. She's demonstrated plenty of times that she loves her family deeply, even if she treats them harshly when the inn is involved. She's had no problem telling Enishi and Takako to go jump in a lake before with their wacky schemes, so motherly indulgence is the only explanation for why she'd give her son the office in this case. Unless, of course, she's starting to come to terms with the idea that Enishi is going to have to succeed her. Her conversation with the movie bigwigs about the state of the inn probably reveals something about how she views her family.

However it falls through, though, it does look like Enishi will be the one directing his own movie next time. I hope poor Mr Ren's heart can take it. He's got the build for a leading man, that much is certain.

Nako and Minchi finally come back into focus a bit. I approve. The 4-girl team with Tomoe leads to some of the best interaction in the show.

The only thing I disliked about this episode is the implied siscon. Good grief, siscon is becoming almost as commonplace in anime as tsunderes are!

Other than that, this was a thoroughly enjoyable and fun episode that puts a new challenge/opportunity to the Kissuiso without needing Ohana to play shonen hero for a change (well, at least not yet, anyway ).

This episode also helped humanize some of the adult characters of this anime that many viewers have not been fond of so far, particularly Takako. I know some of these characters may be, er, beyond redemption in the eyes of some viewers, but I still have to commend Hanasaku Iroha for at least trying to make them more likable and realistic.

I also like how it hints at how Enishi might be starting to develop more of a spine, and becoming a somewhat more well-rounded character.

As an aside, I agree with Roger Rambo on Beanman. Given that Beanman is almost the very definition of a background character, that's enough evidence for me to think that he's probably gay, yeah.
