Fair enough, but I thought being reborn as a spirit in the Holy Grail War meant that one had a strong wish or regret they wanted to fix. Archer in every route always criticized Shirou for his naivety because

Amazing ending. I loved Ilya's cameo too. Shirou kind of seemed a bit more snarky than I remember from the VN. Guess Kiritsugu's death impacted him more than I expected.
Magical boundary field created by Acht (head of the family, and Ilya's grandfather, from Episode 1). Combine that with the fact he was cursed by the Grail, and he was physically unable to approach the castle. |

This anime had to come to an end. Sure it was rushed, but it did fill the holes that we were wondering back then. Kiritsugu suffered the most even until the present and his whole life is nothing but tragedy. Naked Gilgamesh and Kirei alive from the Holy Grail. Shirou seems to be more upbeat than I thought he would in this episode.

Lancelot's scene was superb. I'll have to read the LN. I wonder if he actually said those lines or if they were just his dying thoughts. From the way Saber despaired, I'd guess he never spoke them. All the more tragic if so.
Kiritsugu's final scene felt lacking somehow. Maybe it's just because the same scene in the VN left too powerful an impression on me. Kirei's laughter and conundrum were superb. Illya talking to "Irisviel" and Irisviel somehow responding...? I have no idea what happened there. |

For Ilya, I remember them mentioning something about how Irisviel could always talk to Ilya or would always be with her, as the spirit of the Grail, or something. Not sure. |

The hero of justice was an aspiration of his younger days that unfortunately messed up his entire life by becoming the Magus Killer. He never realized that all he wanted was really a peaceful domestic life. It fits Shirou because he was a child. But if you don't outgrow those childish ideals when you become an adult, you'll end up as Kiritsugu and Archer.

Wow... what a finale. Felt more like an epilogue if anything. I didn't feel that much emotion since I probably knew it all from the game, but it was a bittersweet ending.
I always thought it was Saber's Excalibur that did the damage, not the Grail's mud. I really need to play the game again, lol. And WTF with Aoi. How does getting choked do that to a person? Would have been better if she was dead (sorry). Now then... when can I order my box set?
