Not really. It's 1 milion "worldwide" (my country don't have even release date) vs 1 milion in US and Canada.

Considering NA region consist of majority of Xbox market share, I don't think they are too far behind PS4 in terms of day 1 sales eventhough the reported number is for worldwide. All in all, it's good for consumers to have both console in close competition.

Nope, the UK is in there as well and that was a big country for the 360.

However Microsoft has shown some great logistics as well. I'm impressed.

Due to the way the two consoles were released, we can't compare their sales as of now. What we do want to know is this:

1. How much % of USA market has each side managed to capture, AFTER supplies become plentiful and everyone can get one if they want to. (USA is the MS stronghold, so anything less than 51% of the market would be a blow to Microsoft.)

and
2. The tactic to release in selected European countries for XB1 before PS4 was an attempt to recapture Europe and to hold on to existing lead in the UK. This is an uphill battle, and MS would be happy to get a share increase. Sony would be after the UK market, but we will see how their supplies hold up by that point.

That's pretty much it. Funny that most people don't even bother talking about Japan anymore.

I think point 1 is a bit too early to tell currently as early adopters are more often than not, the core gamers or tech geeks. We'll probably have to wait a year or two and see how the rest of the market reacts to both system.

As for Japan, a lot of focus is on mobile gaming these days. Console market seems to be stagnant/shrinking there. Also, it's pretty much a given for Sony, there's little harm for them to redirect early shipment to NA region early on to try and recapture that market.

It's simple why Japan doesn't really get talked about anymore. Back when the original XBox came out we had Nintendo and Sony in the running (and Sega had just bowed out of the race). Now, two generations latter Nintendo has all but conceded the home console market and Microsoft is a non-entity in Japan leaving Sony free to completely take over the market.

IMHO Nintendo should have waited until 2014 to release their console. It would be a perfect time to catch Sony with their pants down in it's home turf and get back in the race... that is if Nintendo was actually interested in being in the race in the first place (my opinion is they're not, they want to be to the other console makers like Apple is to the other PC/Cellphone makers)

Has nothing to do with that, the way it's going it will be a miracle if Sony sell 5 million Ps4s in Japan this gen. Which is N64 numbers. The Wii was a massive success story in Japan and still got completely outsold by the PSP.

We're supposed to be courteous to the people that are eavesdropping/spying/recording us, by omitting profane language from our private conversations.
