What is the difference between story arcs in comics and manga?
From my experience in from reading comics and manga, manga usually follows one story arc while most comics usually have one plot arc as a part of a longer more encompassing arc. I could be wrong about this but what is difference between the two formats in terms of how stories are usually developed?

Wrong that it depends on whoever's writing it. The thing is though, while in manga, the author technically has the rights to his own story, in America it's the editors and the publishers who have the rights therefore most manga authors have a lot more control on where they want their story to go (this we see continuity or that one story arc you are talking about) while in American comics (most especially with stuff like DC, Marvel) many different stories are written with that comic (kind of like how there are many versions of Spider-Man).
