Elfen Lied is great, I love endings like that. Lucy being dead or alive? The decision is yours.
You may like it but I don't like the curiosity which arose from it. It is true what they post on other forums that the ending leaves majority of the audience in an unhappy state because the ending is not what majority people wanted.

Elfen Lied was not intended to be happy, it is not a happy story, so having a happy ending almost seems to undermine the intent of the entire show. It seems silly to have Lucy go on a murderous rampage, kill dozens of people, and then live happily ever after. Where is the morality in that!? I know a number of people believe that Nyuu and Kouta should be together at the end, but realistically that is not a ending worthy of Elfen Lied. If you want a happy ending, then there are plenty of other anime's out there catering for that need.

Huh? Did anyone asked whether Elfen Lied is intended to be happy or sad?

I went off on a little rant there, my point being that Elfen Lied should have a clear cut sad ending, and that even that glimmer of hope should never have been put into the series, since it does tend to diminish the point of the story. Lucy should have been confirmed dead rather than having a shadowy figure appear at the door. I really didn't like that ending.

I see..

They really should just kill her off if it's meant to be sad..
Yet,there's a shadow that doesn't utter a sound , a weird grandfather's clock re-working, and the music box..

Slowly, I begin to understand why some people dislike the ending.

Good point, Raptor73.

Talking Nope

It is not dislike but rather not satisfied with the ending(To put it in a proper manner). It is never bad for anyone to turn over a new leaf. The only reason Lucy went on a killing rampage because of the mistreating she have undergone in her past and kouta is the only one who acknowledge her. She never wanted to kill from the start but the surrounding and her vectors forced her to become a monster. Lucy/Nyuu is quite a good-natured person. So, it is not a phenomenal if the ending turns out to be happy By the way, there will most probably be a season 2 and rumor says it is now being made in Japan.(hope it is true though)

I don't think that she would live happily ever after with any ending. If she lived then she would probably spend the rest of her life trying to make up for what she had done. Later in the story, near the end of the manga, she gets to truely redeem herself, at least as far as Kouta is concerned.
And, while she shares the blame for what she did, she was really a pawn in someone else's plan. If a Pit Bull that was raised to kill kills someone who is ultimately to blame, the Pit bull or the person who raised it to kill.

Elfen Lied is truly a terrific tragedy done right. It's what boosted my interest in anime again, as well as friends of mine. Everything about it appealed to me: the story, visuals, music, etc. At first, I didn't really like the idea of a second series, but as I think about it, it actually wouldn't be that bad. Time can only tell!

Dude...I fully concur with you. I am sorry to hear you are using a wheelchair but need not feel down. It's not what others take you for but it's what you think of yourself that makes all the difference. No matter how people treat you or what they think of your action...just keep in mind..at the end of the day it's not between you and them but it's between you and your god. Just like Lucy, even if other despise her, she is still able to live on although it seems to be like hell to the rest of us. I admire your will and courage and I also salute you for your taste on anime. You really rock...seriously.

I am sorry to hear this but not everyone in this world is evil. It is just their perception of people that makes them keep a distant from those who are different from them. These bunch o people are fools and the real monster in society and should be taught a lesson, I broke my leg last year and is now experiencing pain from time to time....I understand how you feel but there is always someone who would lend out a helping hand. This will have to depend on your fate...=).Sometimes it is not what others think that is important but what you think of yourself that counts. I think in the end Lucy change her attitude because she wanted to apologize to Kouta and think herself as a burden to the people at Maple Inn but she wanted to protect Kouta. This makes her think that she is a guardian to Kouta and went to take on the rest of the SAT. People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered; forgive them anyway cause at the end of the day, it is not between you and them but it is between you and the Creator. Thanks Past Prime for the information

There is not one anime that is similar to one another. That what makes anime so interesting and original.

Yes...indeed Elfen Lied is a very outstanding anime as it can somehow show me the evil site of human and express it in a way so unique until it is unheard of before. Humans often take themselves to be the best creation of God thus that's why they despise all beings which are different or have a different attitude compared to them. Elfen Lied truly show me the dark site of human beings and it is perfectly logical to think why Lucy hated humans so much.

If I were to rate this anime, I would give it a 5 out of 5 as of all the anime which I have seen, Elfen Lied without a doubt is the best anime I have ever seen.
