I'm pretty sure thats the most anticipated thing about this show for a lot of people but whether it actually happens and what constitutes adequate suffering for this particular cast is anyone's guess. If when we cross the suffering threshold whether we know or not will be up to the individual to decide I think.

Personally theory of mine is that the galactic alliance will show up and "reclaim" earth for the sake of humanity forcing Ledo to fight to defend is new home pr better yet one of these aliens followed him back to earth. If that doesn't happen it'll make for good fan-fiction material.

More than that he'd been seeing them full-frontal since they seem to use communal baths in the Alliance.

lol The Alliance probably has far better mechs than Chambers, so Ledo most likely would not stand a chance against them with what he has now. A weaker Hideazure (I think?) would be a more sensible enemy that cast can deal with.

yes that would be more sensible a couple of Hideazure followed him, reproduced, and now the very birth place of humanity is endangered.

Actually, If it reaches the point where that can happen then everyone is screwed. Ledo and co. stopping it before reproduction would be the main conflict.

Should we start guessing who will dead?

................Actually, I hope the show won't go into that way. A story is already good in its current tone.

Watched 3 episodes. Nice series, though I wonder what path it will take from now. It is also a short series, so i wonder how this will turn out.

Oh yeah! Very happy this got a subforum since I am a week behind on this due to various things.

My impression from watching the first two episodes is that the true darkness in this is the nature of humanity itself. But I think there will be could be some hope to it as Amy changes Ledo for the better and "saves" him.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Poor Communication Kills and the Hideuze are not as evil(or like BETA from Muv-Luv) as they are portrayed.

There's also the possibility that the alliance will come to conquer earth but Ledo will fight them... with the help of the Hideauze!

Yea sure, as though the "military" factions of their own would just cower in fear of Gargantia. No, they will very likely want a piece of Chamber's ass (tech) for themselves.
I'd be disappointed if this isn't at least played with a little in the show.

That is, it can't be because the Sun itself became cooler, as it would mean that it has become a red dwarf and is beginning to die.

Even then, it takes millions of years for a main sequence star to turn into a red dwarf — well beyond any conceivable lifespan of humanity as a species. If humans were still around after millions of years, we would have likely evolved into something completely unrecognisable to present-day Man. For comparison, remember that modern human beings, as a species, have been around for about just two million years, while historical civilisation is only about 8,000 to 10,000 years old.

But this is science fiction, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility of aliens having disrupted the Sun's lifespan somehow to cause catastrophic environmental change on Earth. Is that the case? If not, I would guess that Earth entered an ice age due to some kind of nuclear winter or volcanic winter mass-extinction event. Earth has gone through multiple cooling and warming cycles through millions of years, all caused by natural geological and climatic conditions. But I'm assuming Earth's present state in this anime was a result of something man-made?
I thought they had mentioned the sun at some point, but I may have been mistaken. Regardless, I had interpreted it as the sun wasn't able to produce as much heat on Earth rather than the sun itself had cooled. Atmospheric changes, orbital cycles, etc could all result in less heat from the sun reaching Earth. As we all know, the Earth has had ice ages in the past, so that's not out of the realm of possibility (actually we're technically still in one, just in a warm period). I do wonder why an ice age would prompt a mass exodus to space, though. One would presume that the technology necessary to make such a journey would be sufficient to survive an ice age, thus no need to leave. This leads me to suspect you're correct in saying there was some greater disaster at play that made space attractive by comparison. The survival of humanity on Earth *seemed* to be a surprise to Ledo, so I feel like some kind of unexpected 'recovery' may have occurred, as well.

Speaking of the timelines of human existence, I'm curious just how long Ledo's kind have been adrift in space. It's long enough for language to have evolved to the point of being unintelligible, so at least several hundred years.

Around 800 to 1000 years from what I've read.

Going a bit off topic but I don't really think the BETA are "evil" since they're more like organic machines given commands than anything else. Anyway, I have a feeling the Hideauze are going to more like Tyranids from WH40k in that they're probably naturally agressive and tend to eat most of what they come across.

Just watched ep 3.

Once again, Ledo must suffer consuming yet another animal carcass...oh, the(delicious, juicy, grilled) indignity!! :P

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?

It kinda makes you wonder what Alliance space food consists of.
Vitamin water maybe? That would explain the gray pack Ledo was drinking out of in Ep 2.

It must be some kind of concentrated life sustenance liquid food.
Soldiers of the alliance probably don't have a food culture at all. They just need to assume nutrients to survive and nothing else.

There was also another aspect I was considering which lies at... the other end of the "feeding" issue.
I suppose Ledo's suit is technological advanced enough to "take care" of that problem by some kind of recycling system, just like the suits in Dune.

Yeah...I'm having a hard time believing Rackage and her sexy lieutenants survived that throw. If they did they'd probably be in critical condition.
