I'm staying with a friend in Northern Colorado where most towns take the Fourth as a huge day (what else do they have to do?) and have massive block parties everywhere. It's pretty awesome.

Its sometimes amusing when people forget this isn't the "United States Wide Web" but the "WORLD Wide Web". This holiday is no more important to many forum members than any other random foreign country's origination day. That said, I'm a fan of any holiday that involves food, friends, parades, and fireworks. We just had our local version of the Summer Festival (Natsu Matsuri), for example. In a few weeks, we'll have the Highland Games. Then in September, there's Labor Day... but tomorrow there will be "food, friends, parades, and fireworks". I'll raise a toast to Thomas Jefferson. On the down side, here's something sobering to muddle while you have a patriot beer -- Quote:

I've got a another 9 months to wait for Patricks day sigh.
Though actually, 4th of July is celebrated here. There's usually a fireworks display somewhere. I suppose it's reciprocal considering Americans celebrate our holiday... |

Hopefully going to attend the parade tomorrow with my family and the dog, depending on what the temperature is. After that, going to hang out with my friend for the day and just do whatever. I probably should have planned it out more, but it gets me away from the family gathering, which is all good.

Anyway for the 4th I plan on just hanging out with some friends. (Although American I might be, I don't really care for this holiday. As long as there is free food and fun I don't really care what holiday it is.) |

I love Independence Day.
It represents our independence from Britian... From the world... and from sanity! I love the USA!!! Only in America will you find civilians doing THIS! Rarely do I cuss...but in this case it is appropriate. FUCK YEA I love the 4th! Here's another neat video of the MG Shooters of AZ. As a side note: I had no idea US civilians could own 57mm howitzers! DAMN!

And Cabbage well, that's not exactly loved (the stench...). I don't really think there's any standard meal. You just eat as per usual. The nice meal is just before lent. Though I could see people eating lamb and potatos, though that's a common meal generally. A meal without potato simply doesn't happen (it's the only cliché that's true, along with alcohol consumption). Unlike the US, Patrick's day isn't really an excuse to booze up either. More of a family occasion. Some people go on pilgrimage. |
