I first started to watch, without knowing it, anime when toonami started to air DBZ and Gundam Wing, then i moved to south africa and i couldn't finish watching Gundam Wing, which i was annoyed about, as i had watched it all the way up to the second last episode. then when i was in my second year of high school, i was introduced to Full Metal Panic and Vandread, and since then i have been hooked, and now i have been happily watching for 5 years, and also it was only then i found out that gundam wing was an anime and that there were more gundam series, so now i am on a quest to get all known gundam

My sister left a copy of Love Hina manga lying around (it was a trap) and being a guy I couldn't help but pick it up.
I did not know there was a hook inside that book that would drag me down into this bottomless pit. Broadband and Bittorrent then did me in completely. |

Lived in Taiwan. It was inevitable, since most of the after school shows are anime and occasional classic american cartoons (the original megaman and transformer). First anime was Doraemon... it was so popular that we watched the movies in my elementary school.
Good times ^^ |

when i was 6, i used to watch sailor moon, and when i was 11 i watched dragon ball, so i got into anime really young.
Also, i have two friends that love anime, so they are always telling me "watch this watch that ", but they always show me yaoi animes haha. |

Hmmm, Speed Racer was my first anime, and that was a LONG time ago. From there I started watching DBZ on Toonami and Sailor Moon on WGN when it used to come on at 6 in the morning. Eventually I started watching Gundam Wing on Toonami, then Outlaw Star and eventually Rurouni Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho when they came on there. After that I started watching anime on [adult swim] then eventually with the help of the internet I found more series than what was on TV and it went from there.

I always watched anime, but I never even knew it! I finally turned into an anime freak when...
My brother was watching Naruto on cartoon network (I think?) and we watched it like nuts! I love love loveeeed it!... Until my dad canceled our cable.. T___T. I was DEVASTATED! Then I found out that we could watch anime online, so I tried it. It turned out that they had very few dubbed episodes at the time, so to watch Naruto, I took the risk and started watching subbed versions. I really hated subbed versions at first because it got on my nerves to read everytime someone spoke. Buuuuut eventually I got used to it. When I was able to watch Naruto dubbed again on tv, I realized how bad the dubbed version was and continued watching subbed version. After finishing Naruto with subtitles, I tried to think of other animes I could watch in Japanese. Soon after, I watched more and more animes until I was finally HOOKED! ...and here I am today, obsessed about anime and talking about it on forums. LOL. |

Anime..hmmm i guess when i really got into anime is when i was about 16 years old.. up till than i usually watch cartoons .. like Batman... spiderman.. and other random stuff "Rugrats" "Darkwing Duck" ...etc basicly staturday morining cartoons in north America. As i grow older though i crave something more complex.. thats when i notice shows like Dragonball Z , gundam wing and inuyasha on YTV..(and some of sailormoon but i wasnt really into that show) but i didnt really took those shows seriously like i dont watch every single ep. I mean im sure thier great shows but it wasnt wat i was looking for. Thats when i found evangelion box set in HMV. I dont know why i bought it maybe i thought it look cool.. that same night i watch the whole series and fell in love with it. But i crave some more anime just like that...but didnt know where to find it. So for awhile i was stuck watching Evan and shows in YTV. None of my circle of friends in highschool dont watch anime so i was preaty much on my own.. thats when i found NewType USA. (Im sure some people knows what im talking about Newtype USA) Well i bought it first because it had a cover story on Evangelion but after reading it all i discover all new anime which i never heard of. LOL i didnt know Gundam had soo many other shows base kinda the same thing and like other shows like Berserker, and noir which now i own in dvd. like most people here i discover torrents and DC and that lead me watching more anime i would like..
well i got too thank the people who made Evangelion cause really i believe that show open up my eyes on a whole new level in style of anime. so safe to say Evangelion is my connerstone in anime world |

Well the first anime I was truly ever into(One of the few kids not addicted to digimon or pokemon) Was gundam wing. After that I started catching a couple of shows like power stone and escaflowne. I always loved the style of how anime was and the stories. I pretty much shot off from there-It never was particularly bad(my addiction) I would only ever catch anime on t.v every friday. But then one day my friend tells me theres anime on youtube, "THERES MORE ANIME ON THE INTERNET????!!!" I've never been the same....

I got into Anime the way a lot of guys get into a lot of things.
A girl. Back in 1997 I was chatting online incessantly with a girl I knew, and we grew to be pretty comfortable talking to each other. To put this into context, I was in 8th grade, and out of the blue, I get a comment about "Neon Genesis Evangelion" shot my way. I'm a guy who likes fun words. To see something titled with that sort of threw me for a loop, so I started investigating. However, nothing came of this at the time, it just sort of hung out there on the radar - my mind was conscious of Anime at this point. High school came and went, without any eventfulness. I wasn't really an anime nut at the time, but I'd check out some Toonami and such. It was worth the time to watch, but it was always hard to see the poorly moving mouths with the rough voice acting. Finally, college hit, and with it a T1 connection. I found a download method, Kazaa at the time? and I drew in a heavy load of anime. The first one I downloaded, was of course Neon Genesis Evangelion. Trigun and Love Hina followed, and finally, my foundation was poured. Now to go back to rewatching Hajime no Ippo. |

How:
I first got presented with Robotech in my younger years.. on a channel that normally resides behind a decoder but for a short time they would turn the decoder off on saturday- and sundaymornings around 06:00 to 07:00.. there was also some series about a big futuristic submarine with a gun up front that needed the bow to open and transform.. Robotech peeked my interests (I've allways been a sucker for big robots, especially the battle/transforming types.) I had no internet back then an no-one else knew what I was talking about ( heck, I didn't even know it was called anime then ) so when the decoderless hours stopped there was nothing else on TV of the sort.. well.. except Macron 1.. another giant robot series wich I watched.. Then there were several years of animesilence.. and then all of a sudden Akira played on the BBC, very late at night.. around 2:00.. from then I investigated the stuff and found out some classmates were also into Anime.. the video rentalstores also had a boom of anime in that time, joy watched many hours of VHS ( gunbuster, guyver, fist of the nortstar etc) then I went to a different school.. another couple of years of animesilence.. got broadband internet.. P2P programs.. AMV's.. Gundam Wing... Neon Genesis Evangelion.. From there on things grew and now I watch it almost daily (Like many, I have so much of the stuff, it'll last me about a lifetime I think .) My inet is torrenting and FTPing the stuff almost 24/7 (hooray for limitless 20M/2M internetconnections at home!) and I have over 70 retail DVDs of many kinds and genres.. Why: Hmm.. There is no why actually.. I just like it and I have lured many around me into the dimension that is called anime

Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim and YYH and Kenshin on Toonami 2003. I've been friggin hooked ever since. I mean I've alway been a Japanophile but oddly I got into anime rather late. I didn't pay attention to DBZ when it was huge in middle school, and I never watched the Pokemon anime even though I played the video game like a fiend.

I got into anime because of one of my best friends. He's a complete otaku (much like koushaka from genshiken) and i just started hanging out with him. I'm interested in learning a lot of new stuff, and he started rattling off all of these japanese names, and i had to investigate. First it was manga. the first one i read was Sgt. Frog. and then i proceeded to read his whole library of manga, and he started giving me a few dvds to watch. The first was Gundam Seed.

my dad introduced me into it through Akira (shock horror)
but then he made me watch Guyver and Doomed Megalopolis and my mind was warped for ever i was about 7 at the time btw, but i took along time away from anime just because noone i know likes it. When i did attempt to get some of myfriends into it i lent out a copy of Wicked City and was forever named as the keeper of "cartoon porn" =/. But when DBZ came along everyone became a fanboy (including me), and now i end up watching a few anime series a month |

Well, even i don't know why i'm stuck with anime...
But i guess... it's started when i realized that in anime there wouldn't be any "unnatural acting" or sort (except if the animation director is a baka)... and when i realized how well drawn an anime character rather than those several renaissance-age artist's painting... haha
