Yeah, Daryl seems on the fence between "real" character and "plot device" character. Didn't the writers say in an interview they weren't originally planning on bringing Gai back after the first half? I could very easily see Daryl being planned as a character analogous to Eureka Seven's Anemone, only to wind up with a scaled-down role due to Gai hogging the spotlight (and of course a failure to simplify his arc to suit his reduced role).

I picked him to focus on because he has just enough nuance that the criticism applies and can be summarized somewhat concisely, but not so much nuance that there'd be a lot confounding factors muddying the waters.

And I guess I can add that I got on this tack in the first place when I started thinking "you know, you could take just about any given handful of ideas from GC, throw the rest of it away, and have something that could've been pretty solid...". Failed due to hubris, ultimately, which is if nothing else a way to fail that's often fairly interesting to us onlookers.

Does anyone actually know what the Daat is? Are they a fucked up cult or an actual avatar of change?

If the former, someone should go wipe them out and fast....

Gai described Da'at as "the will of natural selection". Yu said Da'at was a "organization which derives the will of the human race" and that he was Da'at. Da'at may have already been destroyed when Shu defeated Yu but it might still be around. We really don't know much about Da'at.

I was kind of expecting Mana or Yuu to appreciate Shu's strong will, and Mana to appreciate how he wiped the floor with Yuu.

I am watching this series very slowly - as I am not enthusiastic about it. Yet, I keep giving it a chance. For the most part, I can make direct comparisons with Code Geass with significant differences. I am sure, you can too.

Geass was interesting, where you have a main central character and decisive leader in Lerouch. On top of that, he's a natural genius, with the flaw of being a cold-hearted bastard. Nevertheless, y'end up watching wondering: What is this guy gonna do next? Then throw in CC who makes a good mysterious supporting role.

For Guilty Crown, you have a main central character in Shu, who turns out to be an indecisive wuss. Then you have Inori, who actually drives Shu crazy at times.

On top of everything, you have a Japan occupied by foreign forces with the policy of oppression. At the same time, characters can still operate under the school environment, despite this authoritative system.

Geass has geass powers. Guilty Crown has these voids.

The comparisons can keep going and going. While Geass made me want to think "Holy Cow", Guilty Crown is making me think, "Eh, whatever".

Nine episodes in, I still can't see this series being as good as Geass; but I'll keep looking for something out of it. I actually developed a remote hope out of this series in eps 3, when Shu got betrayed by a "friend". But, nothing much came afterwards. Had Shu betrayed Gai... then things coulda been really interesting...

===

Well... now that I just opened up and saw the first 60-seconds to episode 10... someone kill Shu already...

KEK. i dropped guilty crown around episode 3 and thought about watching it again since it ended

*quick look through this thread*

nah. going to skip out on this one. it looks like my intuition was right on this one being hated at the end of its run. btw what is the general reaction over in Japan? i'd like to see what they thought about GC as i've already lurked enough on the english speaking forums.

I just came across a Guilty Crown fandub of a key Episode 19 scene. Normally I wouldn't bother sharing these, but this one I felt was pretty good.

Hope people enjoy!

Ok...i have seen Code Geass and loved the show and watched it over and over. One question considering you have watched Guilty Crown. Is it exactly like Code Geass or something totally different?

There are similarities, since the series composition was the same person. The animation is similar. However, it is very different from Code Geass. Yes, there are some super powers and some mechs; however, the mechs play a minor role, more like infantry. However, the protagonist is very different. He is in no way as charismatic as Lelouche.

I love Code Geass as well, and I like this series. There is some social commentary as well, but Guilty Crown is not on the same level as Code Geass. Watch it for its entertainment value and great visuals, and you will enjoy it as long as you don't try to dissect it like a frog.

The only similarities I can see is the mechas... they're slim and thin..

About the male lead... they're opposite but I like them both...

Not exactly. It's actually like this:

Hiroyuki Yoshino: Main writer of Guilty Crown, but only wrote 3 episodes of Code Geass.
Ichiro Okouchi: Main writer of Code Geass, but only wrote 6 episodes of Guilty Crown.

Somebody has any information about Princess of Deadpool? Because aside from the pictures that I posted on the image thread there's like nothing about it, pretty strange considering the amount of GC viewers.

I got character info from Japanese wiki

No not really Shu did not lose the meaning of life actually he found the meaning of life becuase at the end Gai say to Shu don't ever change that becuase Shu have found what the meaning of Life. Yes Shu may be cripple and blind but that doesn't mean he can't be fix (have you heard of cell regeneration treatment and it in the future and that mean they might technology to do it after all the revive Gai). My other guess is Shu Void power can heal him becuase there are no evidence that Shu lost his power completely it may be it just sleeping in him.
And then you say About What? Well there is a lot of thing they can made season 2 about what is the organization, Daath? No doubt they are still interest in Shu and his Void power. Is Mana dead if Mana is Alive so is Inori and is it 100% the Virus gone?

Here what I don't understand really why people say the Epilogue is like 2 or 3 year have because you don't know if it is a lot can change in just a few month or weeks and people keep saying that the Epilogue happen in France you also don't know about that becuase it might be still in Japan outside of Tokyo in another big city becuase there is not just one big city in Japan because the most damage is done in Tokyo they might move out o another city waiting for Tokyo to rebuilt or until it safe enough for them to return.
