Birdway doesn't fit the MC type at all in the least. You have MC that are like that, but pretty much the position that Birdway had has in NT has been something like "beyond the MC", like how in all of those rangers series there is a guy who put together the ranger team and advices them when fighting evil and whatnot. Though in most ranger series the guy who does that can't fight on his own (except in one series, where he was the kick ass "hidden" 6th ranger).

Speaking on that very same jargon, Acqua and Fiamma are better 6th ranger material than Birdway, they involve themselves with what happens a more on their own.

I bet that I'm the last one to know this, but chapter 2 is at 75%

Urgh. I was planning on summarizing the entire volume but I don't think I can do Ch5. Too much fight scenes and it's a b*tch to summarize something not directly to do with the plot and/or abilities.

I'll just do Ch3-4 for now:

Ch3
-Touma and Mikoto is now with Bardway. Mikoto is still unused to Magic side terms and calls Gremlin ‘Terrorists’, and compares their methods to Mental Out’s. Bardway explains this isn’t just US’s problem as most of Hawaii’s population at any given time is foreign tourists, so if Hawaii’s down there’ll be much international wrangling. This can potentially cripple the entire Science Side’s finance, politics and so on.

-Roberto is still with Accel. They know where the Volcano device is: Pearl Harbour.

-Roberto’s group meet up with Bardway’s group. Mikoto tried to ignore the trauma Accel gave her from Vol3, and focuses on the current problem. Bardway decides to just charge in headfirst anyway, screw planning.

-Worst is trolling Kuronyan. Kuro’s pissed at how she’s treated and swears to cut them all to pieces like a pizza one day – or sue them for bestiality as she still has those cat ears on her. Worst wants to weld more Cat-like add-ons onto Kuronyan, and Kuro broke down. After a slight hesitation, Worst decides to just ignore Kuro’s feelings and have her fun. (Shiage snarks at how Worst is a true Villain.)

-Roberto talked his way in into the base. Bardway explains the Leshy spell, and says that magician probably only controls the commander of the base and not everyone in it. Same with the government, just the upper echelons who makes decisions. The commander tried to shoot Roberto, but was held down by others. Touma and co went to intercept the device.

-Accel, Touma and Bardway went to the 3 planes to search. Mikoto goes with Touma because she doesn’t want him to disappear as soon as he’s gone from her sight, and Roberto follows them and not stay inside since he’s not going to just sit back and let others save his country. Roberto didn’t manage to tell them to stop lifting off in time, and almost fell off. Mikoto held onto him, but Roberto can’t grab Mikoto with both hands since he needs to keep a grip on his suitcase. The Leshy magician shows up from inside the plane. She controls the pilot, so when Touma tries to charge at her she directs the plane to move in such a way to make Touma lose his balance. She got out a gun and shoots Touma. Touma at the last second kicks a cabinet open and let the packs fall outside to take the hit. The second time Mikoto stopped her. Touma told Mikoto to blast the device and not the magician.

-Shiage found there’s a separate shipment of the device onto the volcano, and the Leshy magician didn’t know about this second plan.

-The Leshy magician shot the pilot and jumped out of the plane with a parachute. She got shot by Mikoto’s lightning, but was still conscious enough to smirk at them before falling out. Roberto and others did first-aid on the pilot and made a emergency landing. The navy picked them up, but got sunk by mercenaries. Volcano erupted, and solely for the purpose of isolating Hawaii from Air support.


Ch4

-Hawaii erupted, and a military base in California is intending to blow the ashes away using missiles just so they can sent in their own forces; somehow the US Aegis warships in the area was sunk by unknown entities and Hawaii has been occupied by hostile forces, and the President is there as well. Desperate times for desperate measures.

-Gremlin openly assaults US forces and winning, using a combination of magic and military forces. A Gremlin agent regenerates a enemy soldier’s hand that’s been burned to a stump, saying the fighting pointless and it’s more efficient to take over US rather than destroy it.
Mark shows up in the battle and fights Gremlin.

-Accel and Bardway fights Gremlin agents. Accel’s doing most of the heavy lifting and told Bardway to help a bit using a area attack (since he’s wasting batteries on small-fries), but Bardway’s telling him even she has limited energy to use. Then she blows up everyone in a group nearby, not caring if she hits her own men as she’s sure they can survive her own blast. They meet up with Rosaline.

-The Vice-President has fallen under Gremlin control. They’d declare the President missing and have the Vice-President call the shots, except Roberto still had that suitcase with him that allows him to govern properly. The magician with the Leshy spell from earlier is annoyed that she was bait used to lure out Bardway, and told her immediate superior that if she’s used as bait again she’ll just kill him/her along with the President.

-It turns out the number of people under the Leshy spell isn’t as much as they had thought.

-Roberto is hiding in a deserted bar with Touma and Mikoto. He thinks something is wrong if a amateur in magic (himself) can figure out something’s not right, when he’s faced with professionals in the field. There must be more to this than just ‘control the president’. Gremlin forces have up to 50,000 mercenaries with them, and Roberto says that costs a ton of money. NATO tried to hire those mercenaries back in WW3 but couldn’t afford the price in the long run. Roberto figured out who could be the possible mastermind funding Gremlin, and it’s the media tycoon of US.

-Shiage’s group got phoned and told everything, including how Gremlin seems to know every move they make: FCE (Free Compound Eyes), a system that can access any camera. Shiage’s group decides to meet up with the President and others, and Worst nuked the camera nearby.
(side note: Kamachi seems to think anyone can just go into a supermarket in US and come out with guns… )

-The media tycoon, like any typical cliché villain, decides to call Rosaline and gloat about how she’s won. She wanted to take over US since US had 12 different supernatural development plans going on before in an attempt to rival Academy City, but Roberto shut down 7 of them after he found out about them (none of the 12 was approved by him). The Gemstone incident in SS2 was one of the 12 plans, and so is the Liberal Arts City in Railgun SS. The media tycoon said if the ones behind WW3 had decided to target USA and not Academy City they would have been eradicated easily; the US is weak against supernatural attacks. She plans to restart all 12 plans and turn US into a more Christian/Magic country, focusing on the supernatural if they cannot match Academy City in technology. She says she’s telling them everything because they’re all going to die soon anyway.
Rosaline cackled after the call ended, saying if the media tycoon really is behind this then they still have a chance; her daughter is on Hawaii after being estranged from her mother, so they can use her as leverage against the media tycoon’s family (the only heir to the company, and the media tycoon has fertility issues so she can’t give birth again).

-Roberto found out about Rosaline’s orders and is pissed. Even against someone like Gremlin, kidnapping a 8-yr-old child like this with their remaining forces will paint them in a bad light. Touma decided to save the kid even if it means working in Gremlin’s interest. Roberto’s going with Touma, and Mikoto agreed to go with them.

-Shaige’s going in to save the kid as well, charging in first into the firefight via a boat. Worst is still trolling KuroNyan, making her do poses using her ability.

-Bardway and Accel is away from Rosaline, having decided to not work with her. Bardway snarks at Accel, saying he only gets serious when a loli’s involved. Accel comments even outside Academy city he’s still stuck with Black-Op work, and Bardway comments he should just be honest with himself and say he wants to help.

Anyway, I'll summarize Epilogue:

Spoiler:

-Gremlin cut off alliance with the media tycoon. The media tycoon went into hiding, so Roberto made it appear her 8-yr-old daughter is not the official heir from the will left behind. She's stuck between stay in hiding and lose all her money, or come out and take it back then get sent to jail by the president.

-FCE is now hijacked and beyond her control.

-The 27 organisations used 'Academy City directly interfering with other country's governing' as a excuse to cut all support, thanks to Accel, Mikoto and Touma's interference. Touma called Bardway and yelled at her if she planned this from the start to weaken the Science Side and if she's a part of Gremlin. Bardway told him believe what he wants, and hung up.

-Touma told Mikoto he's not going back to AC - not before he fixes the mistake of being duped by Bardway. He doesn't have a right to live a normal life before this is fixed. Mikoto told him she's going with him, since she was here as well but didn't do anything to stop Bardway.
-Mikoto decided against giving Touma the rings. Just in case magic is real and she got his heart not because of love but because of a spell.

-Dvergr of Gremlin hijacked one of AC's orbital bombardment satellites and shot at Hawaii. She met up with Cendrillon who escaped. Dvergr is the one who made the cube, and asks if Cendrillon wants to be made into a Table or Wardrobe while she's still alive. Gremlin got backstabbed by someone else.

-Bardway made the 27 organisations cut the contracts as if the Science side is too strong there'll be more casualties when it comes down to a fight. Those 27 left with AC military tech as well, and can be a potent threat to AC or anyone. Bardway made those 27 into bait for others.
She also said she had never claimed to be on the side of Justice.

Yeah, he did. Accel said he plans on repaying the clones for what he did, but he has no plans to repay Mikoto in any way.
