I guess. I'm not sure why you seem so committed to the notion that the audience for Uchuu Kyoudai must be pretty much the same as the otaku viewership, though. It's not like there haven't been other shows that attracted viewers outside that narrow audience like Nodame Cantabile or Mononoke.

Like I say, I don't object the notion that new fans are being attracted to and personally I view manga market to be a more inductive of Otaku crowd(western definition here). I just don't like it when people discount the "Otaku crowd" completely when a lot of the them are one and the same.

Basically, my problem with the the claim was not the inclusion of dads but the exclusion of other "regular" anime viewers and manga readers.

I don't think anyone here would argue that a show like Uchuu Kyoudai doesn't have "otaku" viewers as well, though I can see how you might draw that inference from Enzo's original posting on this subject. Leaving aside shows like Doraemon and obvious time slot differences, what often differentiates anime shows with higher ratings from ones with lower ratings is their ability to attract the non-otaku audience. Katapan's comparison of Uchuu Kyoudai's ratings with earlier occupants of the same time slot might be seen as evidence for the show's broader appeal.

yeah, and the fact that the manga got a huge jump in sales means that it is attracting the non-core fans.

I don't see how you could draw that inference, TBH, but in any case I neither said it nor intended to suggest it. My point was merely that in that timeslot and with it's subject matter, Uchuu was likely drawing a sizable percentage of its viewers from adults who don't traditionally watch a lot of anime.

The final episode of 'Pokemon Best Wishes' (a 1h special) scored a 6.5% rating. It's the first good rating in a significant time for the franchise which has had some difficulties in the past few weeks/monthis hiting an all time low of 2.2% just a few weeks ago. It will be interesting to see what ratings 'Pokemon Best Wishes Season 2' achieves.

At least this season's offering shouldn't turn out to have the worst noitaminA average rating yet, unless it records an unlikely 0.8-% rating for the finale...

^The mere fact this season's noitaminA combo is looking to have lower ratings than the BRS/GC combo is already enough reason to lament. .____.

Yeah

This was one of the line ups the block had which makes it even more upsetting. Although there is a chance at least that Tsuritama might sell a little.

Noitamina has two "legit good" shows this season yet it does worse in ratings than the two trainwrecks known as Guilty Crown and Black Rock shooter. Yup, I see noitamina going bust in a few years time. A shame.

At least ytv with Space Bros is doing quite well.

noitaminA's overall approach over the past year and a half has just been too schizophrenic.

First they were half-and-halfing it for a bit (one show is otaku-focused, the other show has elements to it that clearly could appeal to the traditional noitaminA audience - Wandering Son and Usagi Drop being two good examples of this).

Then they go ALL-Otaku (Guilty Crown and BRS)

Then they go ALL-Traditional Audience.

So the timeslot is really losing its sense of identity. The producers behind it need to make up their minds, basically - either half-half it (which means that each and every season you have one show for each targeted demographic) or go "all in" one way or the other. You can't have one approach one season, then a completely different approach the next, then a completely different approach the season after the next. It makes it incredibly hard to build up a dedicated following, because nobody (otaku audience, or traditional noitaminA audience) knows what to expect from noitaminA any more.

Is it too much to ask for NoitaminA viewers to watch the two shows every season and decide for themselves whether to stick with them?

Can anyone find ratings for Ginga e Kickoff, by any chance?

Pokemon Best Wishes Season 2 starts with a good rating in comparaison to those it has been having for a few months (last week aside). It's however far from the first season's first episode's ratings : http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...eptember-20-26.

Obviously, Naruto benefits from this high rating and scores a 4.6 which is one of the highest scores the anime has had in quite some time.

Narto's consistent success is in stark contrast to abyssmal ratings Bleach was suffering for the past several years befoe its inevidable cancelation.

Bleach manga sales has also been losing steam since the end of Aizen arc.
