yes..watched episode 3 by umai. Still not very happy with how the romance bloomed so easily for the two, but other than that, the series seems to be progressing really well, but GONZO has done this before and i m hoping they dont repeat the tragedy of Gankutsuou for me which started so well and had a hopeless ending..

The main catch point of this series is the setting they have chosen, the fantasy background is nice, and it adds really well to the story. One of the top series of this season definitely..now only GONZO hopes to keep it that way

ep4:

they fixed the typo in the opening! i'm not sure if they did it in an earlier episode, but this is the first time i noticed it, since i let it play longer than i usually do.

so, montague's government is beginning to ramp up its efforts in hunting down the red wind. no action in this episode, though; most of the time was devoted to developing romeo and juliet as characters. it was amusing seeing juliet try to play the odin role during what would otherwise be an extremely romantic flight over the city, especially with romeo's generally amicable nature.

with this episode, i get more of the sense that romeo and juliet are capable individuals, and are protagonists not merely as a couple, but alone as well. juliet, for example, only mopes for one day after the revelation of romeo's family name, and then decides to drag herself out of angst to walk around the city. romeo, perhaps irrationally, confides his support of the red wind's actions to benvolio: "this city needs the red wind," he says. when benvolio defends the status quo, romeo is taken aback. later on, when romeo and juliet-as-odin are above the city, juliet asks him for his name (thinking to herself about the irony of the situation), and romeo notices some ambivalence. he is well aware of his father's actions, and the connotations that the family name carries.

and yeah, romeo and juliet also make for a very saccharine couple. they also look good together, especially in the scene where romeo discovers that she's been masquerading as odin, then subsequently saves her life again. it's a shame his jacket had to go up in flames, though.

as for the red wind identity thing:

it's clear from episode 3 that romeo recognized the scent of irises on the red wind, but he didn't take the logical leap to connect the red wind to juliet; at least, not consciously. his most prominent motivation for saving the red wind was an actual sympathy for the red wind's cause. now that he knows juliet has been pretending to be a boy, he may or may not realize juliet is the red wind. or, she may simply tell him about it.

I have no idea what the length is. I just assumed it was around around 24 because it's the regular length for anime (and there's also how most people I encountered assumed so too). But yes, at this pace, it does seem more like it's gonna be a 13'er.

However, I've got a hunch that the setup isn't quite over yet.

By typo I assume you're talking about "Whilliam Shakespeare" corrected to "William Shakespeare", correct?

Oh come on, where's your sense of romance? Even in the original play, it was love at first sight. The classic love at first sight. In fact, they kissed two times the first time they met at the Capulet's party. It progresses to them getting married very quickly (and this is after Romeo hadn't even really gotten over some other girl).

Kiko is right, like the original work, the fell in love extremely quickly.

Your not going to see anymore major BG info(like what exactly happend that night), aside from the prelude for a long time(Exactly how the play is setup as welll, it puts all the BG info in one plop and moves on to the present). As a result, it gives the impression in the play,movie, and now anime, that their love is rushed.

On a side note, the friar looks the one of the movie version as well :P

The romance does seem pretty fast bet. Romeo and Juliet now . . . but it's a love story with only a number of episodes. Not surprising xD

But the romance in the original was definitely TOO quick x_x So I'm okay with the level of fastness in the anime xD Hehe

As for eppie 4 . . . I absolutely cannot wait for the subs x_x . . . or at least the raw for now if subs still won't be available -_- . . . the spoiler pics and summary are lovely but . . . I wish for more xD Hehe

Has anyone else noticed that the cross guard on Capulet's sword is curved but parts in the opening has it shown not being curved? Maybe it's just an error? Unless it's a different sword, that would make sense.

Just an observation from episode 3.

I think it's probably just an error. Animators aren't perfect; they make mistakes sometimes too. But some mistakes *coughcough Whilliam* are a bit more obvious than others.

Just watched episode 3 from umai. I normally care more about how epic events unfold in this type of fantasy setting, but with Romeo x Juliet the romance part is much more satisfying. I haven't seen episode 4 yet (downloading it right now), but I think the two are proceeding nicely enough. Romeo blushing because of his tongue slipping in front of his mother was simply great.

However, I'm not really thrilled about the other story. Romeo's father is all too boring; the typical (foolish) tyrant. You just had to say commoners are like grapes, did you? And the Zorro Juliet isn't exactly interesting.

Well, this is supposed to be romance, and everything else is fluff. The dynamics of the twosome are interesting enough to make this a keeper (as of yet).

Lastly, I think Juliet is pretty enough. Reminds me of Firiel of the Good Witch of the West (that suddenly worries me....)

In episode 4, the one of the background music is a variation made on theme of the song "What Is A Youth", which is the theme song of 1968 Romeo & Juliet Film. If you listen carefully, you can hear the main theme carefully distributed throughout the whole piece. I believe BGM in other episodes also borrowed some ideas from many famous classical or movie compositions related to Romeo and Juliet.

It was all good, especially the nice how William remarks about Odin's love, and how Romeo is so clueless about who he just brought aboard.

But the accident, I just went meh. I think it would have been more interesting to see how Juliet balances between Odin and Romeo, and how she would use Odin as a pretense for meeting with Romeo. Well, admittably this arc has been used before, so I'll sit tight and enjoy how Gonzo unfolds the rest.

About the priest, is this the first time in a long time where we see a priest who is actually not evil?

It's pretty clear that both Romeo and Juliet are both out of sync with their "families" - Romeo clearly has problems with how his father is running things, and Juliet doesn't want revenge or a war, unlike the remanents of her family's retainers.

It was interesting to see Juliet apologise to her parents for falling in love with the son. In ep 4, Romeo says he doesn't like his full name (ie family name), and I wonder if in ep 5, Juliet will tell him the same (which would probably confuse Romeo a bit at the time).

When the pair were flying away talking about such things, I rather felt like they were just about to elope

Anyway, looking ahead, I suspect that sooner or later Juliet will be put in a situation where she feels she has to declare war on Romeo's tyrant dad - it looks like some suspected Red Whirlwinds are going to be burnt alive in the next ep, or about to be. Juliet does care for the people of the city, like Romeo, so would feel very strongly that she needs to do something if things go from bad to worse (as they seem to be doing rapidly). I certainly wouldn't put it past Juliet to turn up in her Red Whirlwind disguise, do her thing, then reveal that (a) she's a girl and (b) who her parents were, effectively declaring war on Romeo's dad. Given the words at the intro, and the battlesuits shown in the OP, I think we are going to get a "war" - ie Juliet will transition to "hero of justice" to "revolutionist".
