weird tbh when they have kancolle which is their biggest hit idk why they felt they needed to split their work load into 4 shows and only give 1 show decent attention

I'm gonna save my full review for tmrw when i think about all the episodes but of the 4 action harems (duo, world break, Fafnir, Testament) Fafnir was the worst of the group this season.

Actually I think even Kancolle took a hit. It really does feel l ike they're biting off more than they can chew.

Yeah, It is so ironic that when consider about the source material this one is far surpass the other three.

I disagree, I think Absolute Duo was worse than Fafnir.

the choppy animation and horrible cgi puts in last place

if i had to rank them it would be Testament, World Break, Duo, Fafnir

sadly in terms of story fafnif actually woulda been second but that cgi was so jarring and in ur face that it made me rate the anime lower than the others

I dont think it far surpasses the other 3 but what is for sure is that this was the worst adaptation of the 4.

I think its very close Duo's failings and Fafnirs are very similar many of the things they did wrong are also similar. I think where Fafnir is worse is the fact that adaptation wise Fafnir is a better Light novel then Duo slightly. Other then the ending with Miyabi Duo was actually rather faithful.

Well i typically hate double posting but i'm gonna do it this case because its time as promised for my review of Fafnir I may double post it because its a long one.

Spoiler for Review of Fafnir (its quite long so read everything before passing judgement on it):

This anime to me gets a resounding 1.5 out of 10. To those who have seen my Absolute Duo review you'll find that this show fails in many of the ways that Duo did so dont be surprised if its familiar
Characters 3- Yuu to me was an MC that was good but not great and he managed himself nicely as MC's go he wasnt that bad. Mitsuki is your classic bro-con and her actions pretty much screamed of bro-con her backstory could've been done so much better. Lisa is your classic tsundere but unfortunately for most of us that side of her that wanted to accept yuu never quite showed as much as it should have and that made her hard to. Tear is one of those characters that annoys the hell out of you at first but grows on you... By the way in case people are no doubt curious how did i give a 3 for character its everyone else. If not for her exploits during the hot spring episode i wouldnt be able to tell you who Firil was. The red head and the brown haired girl i call them that because they did so little i wouldnt really remember them. Shinomiya sensei is fine. Then we get to Honoka/Kilil (who should've been a fascinating character) who was one of the most disappointing setups of the show. Anybody whose watched anime for more then a few years and even some that did should've had a massive red flag once she came with Tear because nothing about her made sense. The eventual reveal of her as Kilil wasnt really a bad secret and its not because of the preview but because she screamed suspcious for so long that its easy to put 2 and 2 together. Kilil for such a brilliant character was incredibly sloppy (from the anime)
Storyline 1- If ever there was a show that had a storyline that was predictable to a massive extent its this one. Most of the events that happened from episode to episode are cliche simple and more importantly basic. A few notable examples of this. 1. Yuu being sent to the academy to "kill the girls" but refuses it on the first shot (yea that was really stupid). 2. Honoka/Kilil i figured that she was Kili pretty much by the time Kili left and once it was revealed it wasnt a shock. 3. Firil's stunt at the hotsprings. Sorry boys and i know i wasnt the only one the minute firil gave him that ticket i knew what she was about to pull and i was right. Admittedly the fact is it was clear by the time the leviathan situation was over it was clear that without Yuu these girls were screwed and its sad because Yuu himself isnt that great (at least from the anime's perspective and in truth the LNs). The battles were all predictable the leviathan battle annoyed me heavily and although the basilisk stopping them the first time was fine i felt that the final battle could've been done a lot better.
Harem 6- To their credit this is one of the few harems that actually felt like a harem. The members are quite clear. Mitsuki Tear and Iris it fit the harem definition rather marvelously and its clear that feelings were clear. why it got a 6 is part of my next section
Romance 2- Unfortunately while the harem part was clear romance wise this show failed rather brilliantly. Iris falls in love because of the fact she supported him in her clear time of need (yes i know romance doesnt need much but still i'd hope it was more then this). Mitsuki's bro-con aspect yea i can live with that to an extent but again there's very little romance to it as far as im concerned. Tear well thats another matter entirely, i get she's a helpless kid i also get that he saved her but I wouldnt go so far as to call it romance (yea i know its harsh)
Adaptation .5 (yea this is where this show truly ruined itself for me)- Now i admit i didnt read the LN originally but the adaptation failed miserably at 3 major aspects. 1. Follows the original storyline (it followed the storyline adequately but the mess with Kilil was handled terribly). 2. The emotion of the storyline- This show is actually so much darker then the anime let on and i think for an adaptation you need to follow every aspect especially the emotional one. Yuu's emotional destruction at whats happening with his memories. The fact that mitsuki's past with miyako is much harsher and what led to the story being told was also not as clean as i care for. Just as important is the really really dark aspect of the relationship between Yuu and mitsuki and how the current situation with the dragons is going to affect their relationship far more. Most of what they dont show could've been showed with little problem

Other things of note were the animation failures which others noticed more then me especially with the final battle and the beach scene. The fact that they didnt really handle the beach scene properly as well was a heavy disappointment (i mean hey screwing up a beach episode is something extremely hard to do).

I'm assuming if I read the novel for this, I'd be disappointed too.

its up to volume 3 chapter 2 it just ended the hotspring part so u'd get a pretty good read on it.

Yeah, I'd say the studio easily took on more than they could actually handle. Just too much volume, shows that could have been solid if they were on their own took a hit.

I think Fafnir as a whole was a good watch. The story side of it still had me coming back which at least was a plus. Though even at the end I'm left with the same feelings as when we first found out that Yuu was losing memories with the more power he had to borrow. First, feel bad for Mitsuki since she takes the most hits from this memory loss. And second, just write a damn diary! How does it take Iris to tell him something of common sense level. Either tell someone the things you don't want to forget, or write them down! Focus on the events you are worried about forgetting and you can have a reminder so at least you can keep the facts in place.

Good job taking down the basilisk at any rate. Using the tools they had. Not just focusing on the power of Ds or technology but combining their efforts. And hey they managed to add Kili to the harem...which may be more dangerous than anything else .

First Yuu beats Kiri because "you can beat any human" no other explanation needed. Then Basillisk goes down super easily as the plan goes off without a hitch and they don't even have to use one of the countless backup plans they had preprepared.

I liked the emotional moments with his sister and Iris more but even those didn't have the omph the final episode should have. And then it ends with everyone greeting him in class, so... yay?

Thoroughly average series. Not the best of the season but also definitely not the worst (seeing as I didn't drop it like Testament or Isuca). Didn't hate any of the episodes but none stood out either. A decent time filler, and I'll watch a second season if it happens but if not, I won't be terribly distressed either.

testament got it because everyone wanted the fanservice HOWEVER the story was lacking so everyones pretty much waiting for BD's. None of the big 4 are good enough frankly. So far the only one i've yet to have a full review for is WB and amazingly its gonna end up second when it was worse then Fanfnir pretty recently.

If you're going to criticize at least try to be accurate....like...at least make it like you watched the episode, and not try to read a blog summary excerpt.

The "Human phrase" is well explain. It was thoroughly hinted, expanded through the series. Why would they need to explain it at all.

And they went way past plan ABC. It was technically plan Z aka the unexplained, "do or die plan".

A was if a beam lasted more then 5 seconds (stay longer instead of evac) they couldn't evac

B was if it fires a 2nd time they had to deploy anti air cushion (because they can't evac)

C is if he moves. (he did not but he broke it using the clever early fire idea).

Last ditch effort was an all out blitz on him before he could recharge his beams. (This heavily assume he had no more trumps in his secret stash). And this the most risky and completely un-announced(off screen-ed plan)

Last ditch plan is basically all or nothing against a dragon. A single beam attack and no one makes it out alive likely.
