Personally, my reasons for not replying to works are just as follows:

Chiefly, I'm used to giving actual detailed feedback. This means that every single word will be scrutinized, and I'll point out every spelling or grammatical error. I'll point out trivial plot holes, argue about writing styles, and generally take the whole thing very seriously. (Mind you, I also make suggestions for improvement; if I can't personally think of a way to improve something, even if I don't like it, I leave it be.)

That approach does not seem suited for this thread.

I usually keep my opinions to myself, because even though I'd be overjoyed if someone did the same to me, I don't know if anyone else here will be as welcoming of having their hard work ripped to shreds. And if they happen to be having a Bad Day, I don't want to be the one they take it out on.

Hey, we've been shredded left-and-right about many things. While this place runs degrees of creative-freedom, we try to restrain ourselves to canon, unless it's someone like Kha who runs crack level over the roofs for the characters.

That's why we have H4XXBUSTERs around, and occasional sound-voices like Jimmy and Tk coming around with their guns.

It's really Earth after one millenium of wars and disasters that pushed humankind into near extinction. Baddies are Englishmen bent on conquering Europe (that reverted back to a late middle age early renaissance-like tech level) with their ornithopters and high tech, africa and asia being next on their list.

The thing is Nanohaverse is not really big on fantasy though. There's elements of it running around, but it seems to be mostly just history. The prevailent elements of the more fantasical aspects seems to be mostly swept under the carpet.

Wait... that applies to the magi-tech stuff as well. I suppose we can't expect much really. -_-;

Bad news: Plenty.

First, word count exceeds Chapter Four (21K) by a healthy 4k, possible 5 - 6k by the end of the writing.

Second, the massive length indicates lots of text, and by that, it will possibly be difficult to follow. A lot of information, but since they're walls of text, so ... And again, no mystery solved as of yet, though I introduced more mysteries, so it'll still keep you guessing.

Third, I think there will be a lot of questions going on, a lot of repairs to be made here and there, since a lot of conversations are made. I don't even know if they're ridiculous or rational, and the sheer length of several scenes will be mind-boggling.

Fourth, character characterization related, Signum will probably come under a lot of scrutiny in this chapter, since I don't know whether she fits the canonical representation or not (a lot of combinations made, which may go haywire). Even Chrono, the Aces, and some seem wrong to me ... somehow.

Fifth, I apologize in advance if this chapter fails to meet expectations.

That's about it.

On a slightly cheerful note, I think a short synopsis of what GuardianS is about will be nice, similar to the previews we find at the back of DVDs. It'll give an overall gist of what is going to happen, though in the typical metaphorical sense, and also make it easier for newcomers to see if it suits their taste. What do you all think?

Hayate... err... not so much it seems. Any mage training she had seems to be solely focusing on improving her sole strength, aka her rear-support offensive abilities, and everything else got chucked over to 'nah, it's not needed, since no matter how much I train, if those in front of me who has more skill and talent loses and I get reached, I'd lose anyway.'

Yes, I'd say this ups the scale relatively strongly. It's almost like taking away "Nanoha" from Nanoha.

On the hind sight, some parts of the story do feel over-arched... I think it'd work best as an temporary end to a chapte when the part of Leona grimacing about Templars from her world... The pacing seemed a little more off after that part, mostly due to the amount of things that can be constituted within several chapters from Signum, Ginga, etc.

And the beginning parts do make Signum and Hayate seem rather... um... I admit... a little off-tangent, but I suppose it's quite justifiable because it's not of her range of character. And that part with Aurion was great, though the mental image of Aurion finishing a song... is a little...

Along with the part where he touches the back of her neck thing.

Five years after the Jail Scaglietti Incident, Knight Carim Gracia of the Saint Church unveiled a dire warning that foretold of Mid-childa’s destruction using her power, Profeitin Shrifti.

A mysterious group of powerful individuals was searching for the Jewels of the Star, nine dangerous Lost Logia that equaled three Jewel Seeds each. The first encounter between Teana and Subaru with the mysterious group ended with Subaru suffering from a grievous injury that left her dying. Though Teana managed to seek treatment for her best friend in time, Subaru would probably no longer be able to join the Armed Forces.

Chrono and the Aces were told of the puzzling warning by Knight Carim, and the arrival of an Intelligence officer, Leona, and her company confirmed part of the information that they had. Still, there was too little information to confirm anything else. In light of the event, Chrono negotiated with Leonidas von Khrull, the new Lieutenant-General, and after completely overwhelming him, was permitted to form Escutcheon, the external force to deal with the strange group. Leona’s group was also enlisted to fill the frontline.

The first attack came almost immediately, and Chrono ordered the strangers to be apprehended. At that time, Leona came down seriously ill, and was harshly ordered by Chrono to step down as captain temporarily. Something seemed to be going on between Leona and Chrono, a secret that was known only to the two of them.

During the fight, one of the strangers, a man called Grandia Estrediel Paladien, was caught by surprise by Signum and Teana. Yet, he managed to escape by summoning Minions to his aid, magical black hounds that could replicate when damaged. Signum and Tesla gave Grandia a chase, which brought them to a clearing in the forest where Grandia offered to duel Signum, which she accepted. Meanwhile, Kratos and his comrades managed to defeat the Minions after a tough, exhausting confrontation. Hayate told them that a massive energy was detected from the dam and was heading there.

The duel between Signum and Grandia continued with no clear victor. Then, at the last moment, Grandia used a technique in which he attacked with five flaming dragons. Yet, it had been a ruse to cover his escape. Nearby, Grandia’s sister manipulated the weather, summoning heavy rain to fall and unleashing a torrential burst of water as her offensive. The flame dragons were extinguished, forming a thick cloud of smoke and fire, thus allowing Grandia to slip away.

At the final moment, Signum attacked with Sturm Falke, only to be greeted by Sharazad's raging wave. It would have consumed both she and Tesla had Hayate not arrived at the critical time and shielded the three of them. Yet, it was too much for Hayate to bear, and her shield weakened rapidly.

What was the fate of them three, facing the furious wrath of nature, with no apparent way to escape?

THE ART OF WHISTLING GALE

The Art of Whistling Gale is an ancient form of self-defence art that allows its user to harness the power of the wind and uses it in his or her fighting styles. It is different from other similar wind-based schools for the inclusion of “union” ability, unique to Narulian Gale Whistlers, allowing a Gale Whistler to greatly enhance his/her fighting ability after “uniting” with his or her Device.

During Unison, Widuri dissolves into the air and fuses onto Hikki’s body as a full-bodied armour Warrior Monk (the dress itself is called Storm Armour). In this form, he gains access to Art of Whistling Gale’s most powerful techniques and can hold himself out in a prolonged battle due to extra armours.

It is duly noted, however, that this form lasts only for 7 minutes, hence it is rarely performed except under critical condition. Also, it requires Jackson Armstrong as Hikki's combat advisor to approve the combination firsthand.

Fata Morgana
This spell gives Hikki the increased agility rate. When it reaches its highest level, Hikki appears to create “alter-images” as he travels around the battlefield. It is also used to temporarily boost his movement in emergency, and when used in conjunction with a melee attack, the resulting explosion is called a “Dynamic Crash”.

Time Halt
Hikki opens a counterattack stance and stuns the opponent (or “freezes”) upon contact. It is categorized as a “binding”-type magic but requires a successful physical attack to be reversed, and since it’s restrictly a reversal it is best used in counterattack.

Faint
Also known as “Dead in Mind”, it is a follow-up move from Time Halt and can only be performed when the reversal succeeds. Immediately after successful connect, Hikki “dissolves” into the air and reappears around the target before delivering multitudes of kicks and punches until the target either succumbs or is destroyed.

Squall Breaker
A powerful point-blank strike, this physical “Breaker”-class ability is divided into three level of power:

• Squall Breaker Alpha: it can break through barrier and protection spells to deliver massive physical damage onto target. The weakest of all Squall Breakers it can, however, be repeatedly executed in successions.
• Squall Breaker Advance Shift: more powerful than Squall Breaker Alpha, its purpose is to destroy force fields, binding magic (in case Bind Break fails) and illusions. Roughly on par with Fate’s Plasma Zamber without the “extend” properties.
• Squall Breaker Unlimited Discharge: the most powerful of all forms, it is unlocked after Hikki shouts “hissatsu!” and channels all energy into his fist to form an “all-or-nothing” punch. Then he pounces at the target and shouts “BREAK OUT!” as he lands the punch. This is the only known melee attack that can counterattack “particle beam”-type attacks, and has the highest barrier-nullifying properties.

Deadly Rave EXS
A more powerful version of the Deadly Rave, this version has the attribution where the attack’s strength increases ten folds on each successful hit. Hikki ends the attack with a finishing punch that looks like Squall Breaker.

The Whistling Gale
Unique to Hikki, this “Instant Kill” is a unique ability that harnesses both the force of the wind with Widuri’s Chronograph circuit to “reset” a target, therefore “erasing” it from existence. This requires the expense of all magic circuits as well as collecting and recycling residual magical energy left over by previous attacks and dispearsed in combat airspace. Then Hikki charges at the target and zips around it in frantic fashions before ending up behind the target, usually in a kneeling position. The attack usually ends with the phrase “…can you hear it? The voice of a whistling gale?” before he snaps the fingers. Subsequently the so-called “gale ribbons” start razing the enemy before disintegrating it into tiny pieces.

Powerful as it is, the Whistling Gale suffers from horrible execution time, which leaves Hikki vulnerable to attack, as well as making Hikki extremely tired as this ability drains almost all of his magic circuit supply. Also, since this ability far surpasses any “Breaker”-type spells and can easily turn the tide of battle, it must first be approved by Armstrong, similar to the combination.

Special Moves:

Mayura normally doesn’t name any of her special magical and non-magical moves, nor does she bother to, preferring to keep them short and practical in serious combat.

The only exception to this rule would be the various Kamen Rider-inspired Rider Kicks she uses, and like in the shows they’re used as finishing moves against tough opponents. Like Asagi these finishers use Impulse spells pre-charged beforehand to enhance power, though Mayura most often uses the Impulse spells on the fly to improve reflexes and speed. All of these finishers are simple flying kicks enhanced by Force Impulse spells, and each spell differs on the Impulse spell combination and how many feet are used.

These finishers are named after main character Kamen Riders, not always corresponding to their actual attacks. Only attacks that have been consistently named are listed, though Mayura has even more attacks and variants in her arsenal.

Rider One –

Simple one-legged side kick with Blast Impulse.

Rider Two –

A one-legged kick from a flying forward somersault with Blast Impulse.

Rider V3 –

A one-legged backflip kick with Blast Impulse.

Rider Stronger –

Similar to Rider One, but with Geki Impulse

Skyrider –

A mid-air flipping axe kick with Blast Impulse.

Rider Super One –

Similar to Rider One, but with Sonic Drive. Used only in Noble Eagle form.

Rider Black –

Similar to Rider One but with combination Blast and Geki Impulse. Used only in Roaring Dragon Form.

Shadow Moon –

Two legged flying kick with Blast Impulse.

Rider Ryuki –

High speed variation of Rider One with Sonic Move. Typically performed from a running start.

Knight Rider –

Special move initiated by Boost Jump before descending on the enemy with a spinning drill kick.

Rider Faiz –

A spinning side kick with Sonic Move.

Rider Blade –

A complex kick where Mayura backflips while spinning, then landing two consequent Geki-enhanced axe kicks on the enemy.

Rider Hibiki –

A flying roundhouse kick with Geki Impulse.

Hyper Kick –

One of the few kicks named after the actual attack, similar to Rider One but using Sonic Move and Kageki Impulse.

Darkness Moon Breaker -

Mayura’s most powerful and dangerous Rider Kick, initiated by a Boost Jump, then landing a Kageki Impulse-enhanced drop kick on the enemy. Named after a move of a similar name in KR Kiva.

- When not working on an assignment under SGS, Mayura works in continuing her family tradition by personally teaching in their rebuilt Haken Lee Dojo of Martial Combat. Along with her eldest brother Falken they teach their style to a new generation of interested youngsters and teenagers. Falken takes care of the school on Mayura’s behalf when she’s away on missions.

- The Haken Lee School is unique amongst other generational schools of its type in its skill-based criteria in choosing a successor, which is why Mayura was chosen to succeed in their late father’s footsteps despite being the youngest.

- Asides from the dojo, Mayura has used her own funds to open up an Oriental restaurant chain, the “Bistro La Salle”, named after the restaurant of the same name in Kamen Rider Kabuto. This can be considered her own personal source of income, since her services at the dojo are free. The 12 chains throughout Cranagan also serve as front bases for the SGS’ operations, and all have underground basements that can function as safehouses.

- Mayura is ambidextrous i.e. she is proficient in the use of both her right and left hands in performing tasks, and she can write using either hand.

- Out of the Belkarangers, Mayura is the most romantically involved, with her foster mother having set her up for nearly a hundred matchmaking sessions, and having nearly half that number in suitors asking for her hand in marriage. She’s turned down all of them.

• Eirwen won't be a magus, but rather like a Signum that concentrates more on special techniques (limit breaks?). And yes, she dual-wields most of the time unless she's using zweihanders like the First Tsurugi (which I plan to include, maybe ).
  
  
• Like EMIYA and Archer-ko, Eirwen will be able to trace weapons. However the catch is that she can only trace weapons. No shields, no armor, only weapons. Weyland was a all-rounder craftsmaster but his emphasis was towards weapons. Also, towards the end of his life he grew very bitter towards life (his original vision were to create weapons that could help bring an end to the Thousand Years War, but like EMIYA, was sorely disappointed by reality) and his final masterpieces were all pure tools of death. To sum things up, the initial ones were created to protect people, the ones in his mid-career to defeat them, and those towards the end, which were ironically also his best works, only to kill, regardless of friend or foe, and many of those are even capable of betraying their own masters as well (a most blood-thirsty bunch).
  
  
• Most of Eirwen's weapons come from Weyland's own designs, which are myriad, as this man created many of the stuff used during the War. A large portion are melee, and amongst these, a great many are swords. Weyland, like me, holds the sword with utmost honor and viewed it as the gist of the smith's art, and his final dream was to create a perfect sword.
  
  Unlimited Blade Works was created in such a way that, like the Tome of the Night Sky, it will unceasingly absorb new information relevant to its task, and basically Eirwen can trace whatever that has a blueprint found within it, provided it is a weapon or can be used as a weapon. This is probably why she can Trace her frying pan to smack Eliyah's (see below) head whenever he gets too mushy or excited (even though it is, strictly speaking, not a weapon in conventional terms).
  
  Aside from these, Weyland made a bow especially for her so that she won't be totally helpless against ranged opponents. I haven't got a clear idea what this bow does, but it will definitely be more than just a bow!

  Eliyah is, or was, a member of the Belkan Black Order, a group of Exorcists that may be pretty much a cross between the OFM and the Burial Agency (they were originally common people and clergy that banded together to protect themselves from rough magi and the monsters that various madmen had churned out during the Thousand Years War). This group focuses on anti-magi and counter-monster fighting, and are pretty much a band of clerical executioners (thus the OFM similarity I think). Their emblem looks something like this:
  
  
  A sidenote here, at this moment of planning, Aerith basically follows the original Belkan belief system, in which the Sankt Kaiser has no special position other than a great prophet and leader (aka no more than a great man, abeit one that's dead for a very long time), and views the Sankt Kaiser Church (that venerates the Sankt Kaiser as a idol worthy of worship) as, at best a curious spinoff, or at worst a pack of blasphemous heretics (especially in the past). Also it does not have a centralised seat of power like the Vatican, but rather is divided into many centres of learning and worship (like what you may see in Islamic and Jewish communities) spread throughout the world. Not every centre agrees with their fellows in articles of faith, law, philosophy and sometimes even the way they should sing, and heated discussions are common amongst the faithful (and the more restless).
  
  Not that the belief system frowns on such debates, in fact one core teaching in the original Belka thought is to question EVERYTHING. "Seek our G-D in all your heart, mind and soul," so they say, and debates seem to be part of this soul-searching.

Bureau mages and other employees scrambled about to move the new equipment inside, usually resulting in jams at the door and very crowded elevators. The standard TSAB uniformed showed him to be a member of the organization and the small cardboard box in his hands (which he thought he wouldn't have any more use for) marked him as one of the new residents of the building.

"Good morning, Colonel!"

A quick glance to his side found one of the mages standing at attention and saluting the older man. It was quickly followed by the sound of others dropping whatever they were carrying to copy his example and salute the higher ranked officer. A soft sigh escapes his lips as he carefully positioned the box under one arm to return the salute. Something told him this was going to be a long day...

About an hour later, Colonel Kouzou Fuyutsuki finally made it to his 'new' office on the upper level of the building. He drops the box on the desk before collapsing onto the chair awaiting him behind his desk. He had lost count of how many salutes he had to return on his trek up to his office, but his tired arm told him it was quite a few.

"And to think I was dragged out of retirement for this..."

He was supposed to be sitting on a chair on his small boat in the middle of some lake with no care in the world. Instead he was sitting in an unfurnished office with the sounds of people and equipment all around him. Why they had chosen him of all people to head this new organization...what was it again? NERV? was beyond him. It could have been worse, he guessed. At least it was a fairly small Division and not an entire patrol unit or something. The overall mission was pretty straight-forward, too. Although why Regius, let alone the TSAB, would suddenly become interested in finding Lost Logia and Relics so suddenly was beyond him. Kouzou sighs and leans back in his chair, pulling up a monitor.

"Might as well read through these documents..."

Sometime later, a knock at his door breaks his concentration. With a quick press of a button, he saves and closes down his Shogi game and opens up two document windows.

"Enter."

"Excuse us."

He watches as two young men enter, probably in their early twenties, and salute him from in front of his desk.

"1st Lieutenant Shamsel Nagisa reporting in, sir."

"2nd Lieutenant Ryotaro Nogami reporting in, sir."

Kouzou returns their salutes, watching as they maintain military protocol and remain at attention. To him, they were young and it amazed him how many people their age, or even younger, were allowed to join the TSAB. These children weren't supposed to be fighting on other worlds or dealing with dangerous Lost Logia. But, he supposes times change even if he didn't really approve of it.

"At ease lieutenants."

It struck him as a little odd that these two would be transfered to such a new Division so soon. One from a Non-Administered World and the other a user of an experimental Device. Nagisa had a few years of experience if he had read the file correctly, but Nogami was fairly new, especially in terms of off-world missions. Although they would be pretty much confined to Mid-Childa, they had authorization to travel off-world to secure dangerous Lost Logia. He secretly hoped that they wouldn't find any of those.

"I am sure that the both of you have read through the documents sent to you?"

"Yes, sir." they responded in unison.

"Excellent. What they had failed to mention, however, was that you two will be our main search and recovery team. With Lt. Nogami's close-combat and anti-AMF abilities and Lt. Nagisa's ranged and defensive abilities, the higher-ups felt this would be an ideal team to handle the Lost Logia and Relics."

He leaned back in his chair and looked the pair over. Having lived as long as he has, Kouzou had come to be a decent judge of character. Both seemed like good men capable of handling themselves and it seemed like they were getting along at the moment.

"Do you have any questions?"

The pair looked at each other for a moment before Shamsel spoke up.

"Just one, sir. Why NERV for a division name?"

Now that was a question he had been expecting people to ask him. In preparation he had spent some time thinking about an answer to it.

"I'm not really too sure. Although I like to think of it this way: the higher-ups, like the Council, are the 'brain.' They are the ones who provide the orders to us. Just like a nervous system, we take those commands and relay them out to our teams. Thus, the name NERV. You two are like the muscles in the body to whom the nerves deliver the signals from the brain to, say, go and bitch-slap some Lost Logia smuggler. Plus I think they were having a sale on 4-letter Division names."

That got a chuckle out of the pair.

"So when do we start bitch-slapping, sir?" humorously asks Ryotaro.

"Not for a few days. Once all the building is set up the technicians will make sure everything checks out before giving us the green-light to begin operations. In the mean time, just settle in and help out where you can. Dismissed."

The pair salutes and promptly exists, making sure to shut the door behind them. Kouzou chuckles and runs his hand through his grey hair.

"I'm getting too old for this."

He stares up at the ceiling for a moment before straightening out and pulling up a new window. He had noticed it before, but had wanted to meet him before he looked further into it. 1st Lt. Shamsel Nagisa seemed like a good kid to him, but that red indicator at the bottom of his file brought up some warning signs in his head. It was encrypted and required some high-level clearance to access. Clearance which he had. A quick press of a button and clearance confirmation code opened up several documents and incident reports.

"What are you planning Regius..."

Kouzou began to read.

Settling in indeed, so what'll Kouzou find I wonder...

Special Moves:

Mayura normally doesn’t name any of her special magical and non-magical moves, nor does she bother to, preferring to keep them short and practical in serious combat.

The only exception to this rule would be the various Kamen Rider-inspired Rider Kicks she uses, and like in the shows they’re used as finishing moves against tough opponents. Like Asagi these finishers use Impulse spells pre-charged beforehand to enhance power, though Mayura most often uses the Impulse spells on the fly to improve reflexes and speed. All of these finishers are simple flying kicks enhanced by Force Impulse spells, and each spell differs on the Impulse spell combination and how many feet are used.

These finishers are named after main character Kamen Riders, not always corresponding to their actual attacks. Only attacks that have been consistently named are listed, though Mayura has even more attacks and variants in her arsenal.

Rider One –

Simple one-legged side kick with Blast Impulse.

Rider Two –

A one-legged kick from a flying forward somersault with Blast Impulse.

Rider V3 –

A one-legged backflip kick with Blast Impulse.

Rider Stronger –

Similar to Rider One, but with Geki Impulse

Skyrider –

A mid-air flipping axe kick with Blast Impulse.

Rider Super One –

Similar to Rider One, but with Sonic Drive. Used only in Noble Eagle form.

Damn... Oh man! That was SUPREME!!! I love this part of the chapter the most!!!

Everything was done so well that I was taken to an emotional roller-coaster ride from astounded, to jubilant, to sad, to shocked, etc.! Hayate collapsing whould do quite well to alleviate the cries of HAXX here. In any case, Hayate was completely AWESOME here!

I liked the part where the three of them bonded the most! You can really feel how close Hayate's bond with the Wolkenritter are, with an added bonus of a very in-character guilt trip for all three of them, especially Signum! (Though I never expected the crying part. But nonetheless, I still liked it very much.) This shows several times more Hayate+Wolky (sans Vita) interactions compared to the StrikerS anime!

And I think this should be corrected... "or else she could rest properly" Just use couldn't.

Though I'm leaning towards kicking reason and logic to the curb and just ramping up the hot blood and lulz - particularly for Franz vs Subaru adn Franz vs Vita and Health Drink scenes.

The term is "Counterrotating Rotor" actually. Though after looking at Storm Raider for a while, it only has a single main rotor assembly

There is the case of the Sikorsky H-34 Choctaw, and combat stories by chopper pilots in Vietnam where its large tailboom could keep the helicopter steady by virtue of sheer drag even with it's tail rotor shot
