I didn't expect that kind of drama in this series. I thought it would remain light-hearted and kind of silly the whole way through. Let's see how they handle this.

I thought it was nice that Rin showed concern for Makoto. Until now, he had been so obsessed with Haruka he had completely ignored him and Nagisa even though they used to be close friends.

Maybe. Wouldn't that be more traumatic for Rin and Gou though?

I mean, sure, seeing a dead body is never something pleasant, but I'm sure if that were the case and it was their father, Rin and Gou would be the ones traumatized, not the guy who happened to see a dead body.

Takemoto episode again for 8. Looks like this guy doesn't have any shows planned for a long time.

Gou sure is fired up a lot when it concerns the swim club.
With the competition coming up, they really need to train hard.
The do-it-yourself summer training camp does seem like the best place for it.
It's nice that they switched from pool to the ocean.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's been stated a few times that Rin's father took him to Australia, which is why he left Japan originally (leaving Gou and her mom behind). So it can't be their dad who died. It might also be Haru's father or possibly either of the boys grandfathers. It also could be a non-relative. What I did notice was that I believe the flashback scene we saw was Haru and Makato watching a death processional of some sort for someone who died at see. That's what the imagery brought to mind, though I can't place why I'm thinking that is what we saw. I still think the other forum may be speculating here (but I'm about to do that too, so hey )

I have a feeling it's something else or more than just something like that. There is a picture a page or so back out of a magazine that looks to be a spoiler on part of what happened and the picture totally makes sense in conjunction with the opening. I've been thinking for a while now that Haru's spacing out and thinking he's sinking in water to the bottom of the sea (which see in both the OP and in episode 2 when Rin wins the race and a few other times) might be a drowning and that's why we see a hand come down and save Haru in the opening. I thought it might be Rin's hand and it was a metaphor more than anything but after seeing the picture I'm starting to think it's a real incident. Now it may not be Rin but Makoto's hand but the picture might be a clue to what happened. This all getting really interesting!

Episode 6: Shocking No breathing
Because of the accident in the ocean, Haru and everyone in the swimming club reaffirmed their feelings/desires towards swimming. In the meantime, as Rei, who thought Makoto had been acting strange since they have arrived at training camp, asked, Makoto revealed what happened when he’s a child.

Episode 7: The battling style one (?)
As the competition’s getting close, Haru and the rest swimming club were practicing and developing their strengths. On the other hand, Rin realized his real feelings/desires towards swimming. To show all their training efforts, they stepped onto the starting blocks the day of the competition,

Episode 8: The Counterattack Medley
Haru and everyone had swum their individual races.While watching them swimming, Rin recalled their elementary school memories and was getting irritated. The medley relay started, while they all had different things on their minds.

Episode 9
As the competition ended, Haru and everyone felt how much they have grown. They went to a summer festival together. Nagisa, knowing that Rin came to the festival as well, asked Rei to followed Rin in order to avoid Haru and Rin encountering each other.

it seems it happened in LN high speed which is the source, its possible that kyo ani will modify it a bit so it will be consistent by changing the "who" that is in the death processional and the rest will follow to the spoiler pic from the LN that show haruka drowning which is an added motivation for makoto trauma and maybe kyoani will show more character that is ayazaki (girl..hooray...) which is also in the swimclub from elementary school

Yeah, let's go train(!) in the sea(!!) via swimming long distances from one island to another(!!!), whatever could go wrong? ^o^)/ Seriously, how did the school even allow this? Tsk-tsk, Amachan-sensei...

Anyway, did they really have to make Rei so pathetic? :/ I'm at the breaking point here. It's bad enough that none of the main storylines (Haru vs Rin, Rin reconnecting with the old group) involve him and often he seems to be just an afterthought, do they really need to make him the buttmonkey as well, with the Idiot Ball permanently attached for good measure? -_-)

Doesn't help that I still don't care about Rin and his one-sided vendetta... At least he acknowledged one other ex-friend aside of Haru.

At least Makoto is still cute.

(And damn, I really miss swimming, the sea, and swimming in the sea...)

Kou is definitely one of the best girls this season. Though I am disappointed with her swimsuit and breast size.

Oh wow, Rin actually remembers he had friends other than Haruka? I think this is the first time he's shown he even knows the rest of the guys.
Although I hate his angry bad boy persona, I can definitively sympathize with his frustrations. I don't like losing, but what I hate even more is being let to win out of pity.

I was actually so disappointed in Gou's swimsuit that I forgot she even wore one this episode. That swimsuit is just awful. They really don't care about the male viewers in the least.

I'm feeling a bit sorry for Megane. He hasn't had many positive things happen to him so far. Well, except magically learning swimming.

Poor boys having to sleep out side while Amakata-sensei and Gou live it up in a room with A/C and cable TV. Though I guess it in responsible of her to let a group of teenage boys sleep with the only two women there...

I don't really get what was going on in Rei's head when he decided to go for a swim in the sea at night. It's dark as hell out there and I always have the impression people would be suck into it if anyone dares to swim at night.

It's amazing this show manages to be serious and ridiculous at the same time.

Rei just wants to catch up with the rest of the team you know he doesn't want to be weakest link is all but you're right he shouldn't take such unnecessary risks like that.

I know he doesn't want to be a burden to his team mates, but if he was so desperate he should have swam near the shore instead of going straight for the islands (did he?). That's beyond being reckless if you ask me.

Did he intentionally set out for the islands? I got the impression he got caught in a current and was pulled away from the shore. I could easily be wrong though.
