DOCTOR WHO anime! - UPDATE with animation.
Well well. When not creating controversy with my views on fansubs, I've been spending my time animating a Doctor Who anime short, a probable 5 mins in length. It's taking time because I have to draw and animate every frame myself, but here's some stills for you. What do folks think?
I'm going for the full on 1980s feel, and trying to get as much colour and shading in there as possible. Paul "OtaKing" J. Last edited by MightyOtaking; 2008-12-07 at 12:48. Reason: Updated animation segments |

A couple more...
All of the backgrounds are actual locations in Tokyo to give it that "authentic" feel. My favourite Starbucks, in Shinjuku. Some parking garage Hurrah for the Tokyo subway! Though that poster wasn't there in real life. |

I will be eager to see how this comes out, are you going to use a doctor who theme to start the anime?
I like Doctor Who so i will be looking forward to this, if your looking for any female voice acting i can do a part! |

Unfortunately, its set in Tokyo so even though there are a couple of lines for the female lead, I need a Japanese native speaker. The Doctor, Davros, Daleks and Brigadier, etc are all saying lines I've spliced together from actual episodes, creating new lines that fit the scenes. |

I am a huge huge fan of Doctor Who, so much so I have been working on my own animated version too. However nothing like these pictures, where as I am going for a more Mamoru Oshii feel to mine, I see you are going more Bubble Gum Crisis. It's great to see anime has so much genre potential. Just out of curisity, are you going for a third Doctor period there? Thats a fantastic Jon Pertwee Doctor in the second image

Hmm.. interesting stuff! I'm not a fan of 3D CG at all, but this does look interesting (I'm one of those people who believe that Macross Plus was the absolute pinnacle of hand-drawn aerial dogfighting, and to then go and make all the Valkyries CG is a crime against humanity) BUT I would definitely be interested in having a look at this.
There's an interview with Mamoru Oshii coming up in SFX next... month, I believe, which I translated. He says some very interesting things about his Ghost in the Shell 2.0 and how CG is affecting the anime industry. And thanks! Saying mine looks like Bubblegum Crisis is the greatest compliment I could receive! That's the whole era I'm trying to replicate, and the time I hold up as the Golden Age of anime art. Anyway, more images! Davros redesign this time. |
