The biggest shame is that he should have had a very high chance of surviving. When he went to armlock the guy he probably only thought that he'd gone crazy and not turned into a flesh eating monster. He shows plenty of genre savvy later on, such as realising he's infected, spreads through bites not air etc.

Indeed. Saeko is the reason I hoped for an anime adaptation. Heck, she's the reason I read the manga in the first place (came across a picture of her figure)

Clearly he was just too clever to survive . I think his critical mistake was underestimating the strength of the zombie. I mean you'd think someone shuffling around wouldn't be all that tough....apparently wrong.

Yeah never really trusted the chainsaw. Pretty heavy and when it runs out of fuel it's pretty unwieldy. Better to go with something easier to reload or doesn't need refueling. Might want fuel for something other than the chainsaw.

Anyways kind of agree with the idea that part of the reason for the survival of the main characters is because there isn't something quite right in their heads. A normal person might freeze up and just panic in this kind of situation. Takes a different kind of person to react in the right way to not get themselves killed.

I'm currently reading this book about survival in disasters, breaks the people caught in them into three types.
1. Those who live because they take action
2. Those who die no matter what they do
3. Those who die because they do something stupid e.g. freeze up.

I'd say most of the students who died fell in the third category.

FlareKnight, I don't think it's a matter of being 'right in the head', more like focusing on the current situation.
