I think this is the beginning of Shiori's arc no? Anyway, I still have nothing to say since I haven't seen it. But looking at Sayuri with bandages on her head....well, I thought that was a deflated ball The girl that likes eating ice cream at a winter season Shiori fans rejoice!

Maybe Shiori's arc is gonna be 2 episodes or so? I guess they're making more time for the Nayuki and Ayu arc since theirs are longer?

Looks like my 2nd favourite character's turn. No doubts from me that this will be very well presented like the Makoto and Mai arcs.

That reminds me, I gotta make a picture signature for Mai this time.

Well this is a fun episode. I've had the privlage of obtaining the RAW first before anyone else for 34 minutes. Mwahaha.

Well, I got my wish of seeing Sayuri and Mai again fulfilled. Indeed, they are both okay, and Mai is different - which I can't decide right now if it's a good or bad thing. It would only be bad in my opinion in the sense that she's become out of the character I'm used to seeing her being portrayed. Like strolling through a dark tunnel and finally seeing the light. But I felt this effect was a little sudden. Maybe I'll be comfortable with it after rewatching it. She totally looks like her mother sitting there. Kudos to keeping the family resemblance.

Ayu in a skirt. WOoooooo. lol In any case, life seems to have mellowed down in terms of the fantastical as I hoped. It's a nice transition. I wouldn't call this a Shiori-exclusive episode as it was episode 15 (where it was literally JUST Mai and Yuuichi). Everybody got a little screentime, but that's not a downer. I'm happy for it. For Shiori, man I just love polite girls who desu/masu all the time. She and Yuuichi's time together was a blast. You have to see it for yourself. But yeah, good fun times.

Also, Kanon is expanding their OST from the two new songs they put in this episode. I look foward to it.

All in all, fun episode. The tone changed the last third though, but I don't think it hints to a two-episode only subplot that others have already suggested. In all things considered, what we hear of Kaori could may be only be the stone-setter. The real subplot for Shiori could very well begin next episode.


EDIT: As for the other girls, you really get to wonder what the premise scene was all about. It's cool to see mother and daughter talking to each other alone - something that's pretty rare now that Yuuichi (and even Ayu) are living in the house. I suppose their conversation was pretty casual. The last shot, however, showing Nayuki clasping her teacup, gets me wondering. A good anime (and this is a good anime) don't include scenes without a reason. Every shot is a piece of the puzzle displayed for you clear-cut or subtle. This teacup thing seemed pretty subtle. Is her feeling the warmth of the tea an analogy for some subliminal in her mind? Is Nayuki starting to have romantic feelings for Yuuichi and that the shot of her hands intimately holding onto it a physical representation of her inner feelings?

What do I know!? It's my first time watching it! I'm merely speculating.

Shiori arc is the one that echoes with me the most actually... the pace that KyoAni is moving at comes as a surprise to me. Seeing the preview of the next episode is already quite stinging...

A 50/50 mix of Ayu and Shiori's stories.

I know I am missing the point (of Shiori's story), bu it has always bugged me that
Doctor says Shiori won't live to her next birthday
Everyone else in the story takes that as (or act as) if Shiori will die on her birthday. No exception.

When did doctors became that accurate in predicting death...

But that's just me.

Anyway, Mai is out of the picture till springs. Huh. That's convenient.

And I could hardly think that those damages are "little", Yuuichi. You blew a classroom size hole on the second level's floor! Delinquents can't do that big of a damage...unless they have C4 or TNT, or the contractors for the school building somehow cheated on materials.

Anyway, the remix insert song is good. I didn't regconized that at first.

What's interesing is the end of next week's preview. IIRC Shiori's story can get quite dramatic throughout its run (meaning that it has multiple climax), unlike the other arcs. This episode is only the beginning...

PS Because I don't know how KyoAni will do Nayuki's route, I am natually a bit worry- I shivered when Nayuki was at the stove cooking that stew with her side/back view towards the camara. In that split second the word "Kaede" popped into my head...

That is simple...Shiori is the best Arc after the Ayu One. Neway am somehow forcing myself to avoid the spoilers and waiting for the SS-Eclipse release....I shall give a better statement then

Aaw! This episode is full of touching moments. We get to see Mai with her hair down which is much better . And then, Ayu's mystery was hinted again thanx to that doctor -- which means that....I won't spoil it any further . Anyway, the main highlight here on this episode are the Misaka sisters but there still some Ayu and Nayuki scenes .

Yeah I really liked that remix in there that was awesome ^-^ I Shiori more from watching her animated. Makes me wanna make a snow man *looks outside* no...it isn't magical winter like they have 0_o it is freaking freezing....

I swear they have like awesome winter. Over here we get crazy freeze and they can wear fashionable stuff in winter too XD

Poor Ayu ^-^ wonder why the smoke alarm hasn't gone off. Some are so sensitive

I agree with Leo_Otaku's comments on that, for I've been through quite a bit of winter and cold snaps over my backyard.

The worst kind of winter is flurry, wet and damp snow, with severe windchill, freezing rain as well as wind gusts. The 'dry' snowfall with fine powder snow is fine and dandy as those you can manage, but freezing rain ain't so much fun. That and it's an absolute hazard to cope with the black ice of slippery death... I've witnessed winter tires with chain hopelessly moan as the tire burst due to piercing ice shards, salt totally gone from convenience store due to shortages, ice-covered sidewalk (snow turn to ice under the crushing weight of human feet) that should've been shovelled, and the image of that dirty, muddy snow and ice, frozen onto the cement road, looking no way as picturesque as how each scene looks in Kanon...

being a Canadian makes one learn about winter the hard way, eh? (Maybe not animating that winter is a good thing.)

Now I am dying to see what the next week will bring to the table for Shiori and everyone else...

This episode presents a continuity error on Kyoto Animation's part. Here's my explanation:

Mai's birthday is on 1/29; as we know, episodes 14 and 15 cover this. When Mai ends up in the hospital, it's the evening of 1/30. The following day is 1/31. Yuuichi asks Shiori out, because "tomorrow will be Sunday". Sunday is now 2/1; this evidence shows that it's either 1998 or 2004, and 1998 seems more likely given the lack of cellphones around here.

But here's where things get interesting.

After the date on 2/1, that night Kaori calls out Yuuichi and says "in one week, on Shiori's birthday, she's going to die... on her birthday..."

Does anyone see the same problem? Shiori's birthday is now 2/8 according to Kyoto Animation, when Key by all rights meant for it to be on 2/1!

That, or Mai's birthday is now on 1/22 (ends up in hospital on 1/23, Yuuichi asks Shiori out on 1/24, they do so on 1/25) when it should be 1/29. That'd also imply this is all taking place in either 1993 or 1999, 1999 being more likely.

Also, the remix songs have been around for quite some time. Check in Key Sounds Label's backlog of CDs, plus the Winter Remix for the Kanon OP has also been around.

We got a freak snowstorm earlier this week.. so the family made a 7 foot snowman in honor of Shiori's request (wife, both sons, and older son's girlfriend are watching the show now). Of course, it looks more like one of Calvin's Mutant Snowmen but meh....

Fair catch.. though in Kanon2006, cellphones are common (its Ayu who is behind the times). I'd say 2004 is a better guess.
Otherwise, yeah it looks like they fritzed on birthdays... ah well - it wouldn't be the first "canonical" error in a show. Star Trek used to have whole volumes of the stuff. LOTR *still* has continuity errors in it even after multiple corrected reprints.
I can't shoot the catch down, anyone else?
