1. He believes it's a real achievable goal. For him it's like he's trying to be a cross between James Bond and Batman with the OPness of Saitama. He just doesn't believe any of the cult stuff is real.

2. The way Cid took them out was just too mindblowing. He essentially knocked them out so fast that nobody, not even people who are top tiers in terms of strength, could catch it. It's why Annerose and Quinton dismissed that possibility and instead thought he was cheating by boasting his speed with a artifact because if they accepted that possibility it would mean that Cid is by far the fastest person in the world (which he is).

1. Imagine if you made up a completely far fetched lie and told it to all your friends who in turn believed it and start treating it like it's real. Then it turns out it is real but you're too stupid to realize it. That's Cid in a nutshell.

4. There's no indication that nobles in Cid's kingdom are that mean spirited.

9. Cid claims to be able to sniff out bad guys to Doem. He's like Delta in the sense that he gets by mostly via instincts instead of thinking it through which is what makes is so ironic that he's always annoyed at how thoughtless Delta is. Dogs reflect their master after all.

10. He needs to look at the opponent to get a rough idea of their level based on their posture, muscles, etc. etc. You could also hide your strength from him like Cid did.

11. Shadow Organization has many members so she likely assumed there are more members in that org pining for Cid (which there are). Alternatively women's intuition.

12. She's brainwashed. We also haven't seen her perspective yet so who knows what she thinks.

13. Iris is too strong to capture without risk. Clara probably isn't compatible given that it doesn't manifest in everyone.

Then, Zenon becomes a hypocrite because after getting a merciless beatdown and taunted to humiliation, he used the red pills to increase his power. But another contradiction arise when Shadow looked down on borrowed power I mentioned but didn't he study martial arts, yoga, buddhism etc. What makes Shadow and Alexia special over Zenon?

Is it like that there is a difference between learning and borrowing/stealing? Alexia thinks to herself that she can never measure up to her sister hence why she tries so hard to emulate it but Cid shows her the original way to succeed which is her old way. Both she and him are not above to say that they need to learn. They understand that there is no such thing as perfection and that everyone must be open to learn new things. Zenon, on the other hand whether he's already talented or did made the effort but stop learning because of his ego or never actually understood the art. And the Red Lozenge is proof he cared more about the power aspect rather than the lessons that came with it.

As for the fight, Shadow easily made Zenon his bitch because Shadow can easily see through the flaws of Royal Bushin Style and his mocking was correctly pointing out that even with all that talent, strength and speed, Zenon was just a complete idiot, a bigger idiot that the chuunibyou obssessed kid. To him being a "power in the shadows" means being a omnipotent force controlling things in the background and to Cid part of being omnipotent is that you can't rely on external tools to boast your power. In Zenon's case he relied on drugs and to Shadow his power is shallow since it actually isn't his own power but rather a power granted from a outside source.

This means that there's no contradiction for Shadow when he looks down on Zenon. The things Shadow gained from training aren't "borrowed", they're earned from hard work and therefore are part of his inherent skillset. That's the key difference, when you borrow something there's no effort involved and it will eventually go away whereas learning takes effort and it'll never go away.

The protagonist is extremely dense, but in an extremely non-typical way. Presumably you've read the summary, so the whole "acts as a shadowy figure while not realizing he basically is one" is more or less the entire series.

The guy does not and never will notice that he's actually fighting real cultists, that the world is actually in danger, or that all his made up scenarios are more or less really happening.

And the show sticks to that one gag no matter what, so if you get annoyed at a series tanking any kind of stakes or tension (or character development) it could build from its story, turn away now.

We haven’t been show how strong Mordred is yet, and the first time he met Cid, they only chatted a little and then Cid “accidentally” cut off one of his arm

To be fair, there is character development, just not from Cid. Cid is just Saitama with a heavy dose of chuunibiyou. A good number of the agents have had their backstories expanded.

While I do enjoy his chuuni episodes, I do personally think the story benefits more from having the agents be the center of attention. Without the girls, there would be no story since Cid is usually oblivious.
Not only that, but the girls narratively establish Cid's role as a shadow agent in the story, however coincidental it may be. Aside from the major fights, he is not central to the overarching plot as the other girls take care of that. He is not the mastermind everyone believes, but he is ironically carrying out his role of being a discreet shadow operative well.

That's why the LN's sidestories are so important.
