YAY! I really liked this topic!

Anyway, I'm wondering how deep into the hell I should take my post here.

I don't really feel embarassed to say I like stuff to my friends or online because I'm proud of the series I like. If it's one that didn't turn out like I hoped, like Jinki or ToHeart2 then I'm still glad I watched it and wear that proudly. And if it's a series viewed as childish like YuGiOh (haven't seen much) then I still have no problem saying I like it. Even if it's controversial like Koi Kaze I'm still proud to say I liked it.

Hmmmmmm... Anime I've watched that I was embarassed to tell people I liked...

So the winners would be Kuro Ai and Daiakuji.

That may be true, but I feel that Shura no Toki redeems itself with historical accuracy. I truly enjoyed seeing historical personages interacting with the Mutsu.

You people all have such tame confessions. If I was going to confess my own guilty pleasures....

I'm embarassed to admit that I liked Soty Rei. This show is pure cheese. It is totally lacking in redeeming virtues. It is as if all the least meaningful cliches in anime were put into a blender. I can't believe people think that it is embarssing to admit to a show with real characters and story like Full Moon. Now THIS is an embarssing show to confess to. Yet somehow it makes me smile.

This season I started watching Happy Seven. Oh god this is pathetic. Seven girls with magical powers fighting monsters alongside a single guy. I suppose it has one redeeming virtue: The viewpoint character is completely wrong. By changing the viewpoint character to a girl without any powers at all (not one of the Happy Seven), they turned the anime around to make it into something a bit unusual. But oh my goddess, this is embarassing to watch.

Ebichu is a very guilty pleasure. Its animation is barely fit to call animation. And Oh My this is oversexed.

Jigoku Shoujo is another guilty pleasure. Repetitive, predictable, trite. Yet somehow I eagerly watch each episode as soon as it is fansubbed because I love watching the protagonist of the episode get screwed over by someone truly vile. Then I love watching them stupidly make a bargain with Enma Ai to damn their tormentor. Finally I love watching the villian tortured. I would hate to admit that I am sick enough to enjoy watching this paper-thin excuse for a show.

Grenadier... I actually watched every episode of a show that has "boobie reloads." That is a shame I may never live down if I was to admit to it.

Ocha-ken is about tiny little cartoon puppies the size of a tea cup that drink tea. It is adorable and clearly made for 6 year olds. Why should I receive pleasure from something so infantile? Oh why am I cursed this way!

Pretty Cure is a magical girls show with a very high cheese factor indeed. It is full of cheery chipper characters and cute dialogue. And it is pretty much the lowest common denomiator of mahou shoujo. After all the mahou shoujo I've seen, it should take something a bit more atypical to make me pay attention, yet I am a complete sucker for this sort of thing.

I've watched every single Cutie Honey series. Even Cutie Honey Flash which was only half fansubbed on VHS. Why did I watch this? I can't honestly tell you. It has episode after episode of the villian of the week getting killed with the same execution move. It has the old cliche of a robot girl trying to deal with not being human, but at least this wasn't a cliche yet when the first Cutie Honey aired. And the episodes with their fanservice laden scenes are pretty embarassing. I definitely will not admit to watching Cutie Honey no matter what! Even in this thread I couldn't admit to such an embarassing guilty pleasure.

I'm definitely not going to make any such confessions of guilty pleasures. And if by some accident I happened to hit the submit button, I'm sure I'd delete it to cover up such a horrible accident.

My most guilty pleasure anime is Koi Kaze - It's a story about forbidden love between a brother and his sister. They crossed the line and if I remember right, they were both blood related too.

I know it's so wrong, but the story was very deep and touching. I just cannot help myself loving this series. Of course, I could never ever admit to my friends in real life that I like this series. just thinking about it make me so embarassed. >_<

Dragonball Z, I feel even dirtier.

Pokemon, I am beyond redemption.

Alright, I like to watch Dragonball Z and Pokemon when I was younger, not now that I'm, um, more mature and intelligent. My guilty pleasure anime now would be... Doraemon, I find it amusing to watch Nobita getting into trouble/being bullied yet again by his friends and run crying to Doraemon for help everytime. I am secretly in awe of all the gadgets that Doraemon pulled out of his bottomless pocket.

Its not only brother and sister, but its 30-ish+ brother with school age sister.

That series left me feeling dirty forever...I had to put up a mental block to keep the final episodes out of my mind...>_<

I think it's wonderful as long as you do, but with a difference, it's not a shame imho, to like Koi Kaze. It does contain incest, but dealt in the better way, seriously and with no jokes.
As for the shameful factor, although its characters are realistic and believable, it's always of "fictional events" we're talking about, so I don't see the point.

edit: oh Komataguri, you think so too. Well, it's understandable. It didn't hurt me at all, but I do see perfectly how Koi Kaze could be able to hurt someone.

Heh, Koi Kaze has always divided peoples, and so goes here, by the way:

That's an opinion I concur with, and that I find to be nearest to my logical thinking
And once again I underline my policy, it's fiction, it depicts a side of the reality but it isn't the reality itself. That makes me feel at ease.

Actually, I like it very much but still I don't think it's a guilty pleasure
It's not so different from many theatrical movies/shows, it's just turned into anime. That makes it a bit refreshing, thus good. As for the indeed sadism it contains. Isn't the world full enough of sadism? So let's enjoy it, when it comes that occasion to take a breath of air, and to watch a well done anime performing it. As said before, it's still fictional.

As for my guilty pleasures... well I didn't dislike shows which didn't properly shone for brilliancy , the various Hand Maid May or Agent Aika weren't that bad, after all, they were meant to bring a bit of fun, and so they did.

Maybe I feel more guilty for having enjoyed a few episodes of Pokemon , before realizing they were all the same, seen one, seen all.
Meh it came before Kodocha on italian tv, so to make myself sure to not lose Kodocha, I turned up tv early. I've redimed, though

I used to watch Sailor Moon as a kid, and back then, you couldn't tell anyone (except my best friend who was also into it for some reason).

A few months back I had a fit of nostalgia, so I started downloading SM and rewatching it, but being in college now, and having a roommate, I had to be pretty discreet. Whenever he came into the apartment I had to close the Windows Media Player window pretty awkwardly. I think he thought I was jacking off to pr0n.

On a more general note, I think anime itself is a guilty pleasure. It makes me cry knowing that I'm watching at best B-grade material when I could be reading some intellectual novel and expanding my mind. What is perhaps even worse, is realizing that due to an uneventful and uninteresting life, I must rely on anime as a form of escapist entertainment to provide the material for my own autistic social fantasies. It's all very depressing when you think about it that way, but it doesn't seem to stop me from enjoying shows like Karin, Shakugan no Shana, and KGNE.

Another Kaleido Star fan. I've watched it so many times now I can delude myself into thinking I know japanese by watching almost every episode w/o subtitles now.

DBZ as well, although since it's pretty much done I'm past that phase... Pokemon too but I'll only watch it in japanese which means I rarely watch it now either. Although having been introduced to some H-games that follow this concept, like galzoo island, I have to say playing a well made pokemon type game is more fun than watching pokemon.

I have no guilty pleasure series. I can churn out my list of animes I have watched 10 years ago and now without breaking a sweat or blush, in real life or online. (BTW why would you be embrassed online by it? ) I don't go around telling my hentai collection however.

On a side note, why do most people say their real life friends or whatever say anime = porno? Everyone I have met and talked about whether in reference or in detail about anime never mentioned that they believe anime is related to porn. Most think anime = japanese cartoon (cartoon as in like only kids watch type of thinking) and that some have extremely freakish big eyes and or breasts. And I live in New York City man. I wonder where you people find people who think anime = porno.

I think EternityOfPain's signature is the guiltiest of guilty pleasures. He claims he's going to hell for it, and I think he'll take several of us with him.

Why is KS listed by so many as a "guilty pleasure"? It's clear that the anime is made up of a good amount of "win", same deal with Sailor Moon. Hell, I have meantion several times I liked Sailor Monn, as long as it isn't that horrible S season. Everybody used to watch Pokémon one point of their lives.

Mine:

Well, does Maho Shojo Pretty Sammy count (and didn't I already meantion in some random post that I liked the series)?

Romance animes are my guilty pleasure. I make up for this by watching super robot shows, but not even a rocket punch can clean away the tear stains some shows leave .

This too, I'm afraid - I started watching and reading School Rumble only because Tenma's a clone of Mahoro.

This is not relative to place, it is relative to time. When anime first started to be imported to the US, what was brought over was largely tentacle porn. I can't tell you how irritating to see articles on anime in the mainstream press saying "Anime isn't just for kids anymore!" And they talk about anime porn! Oh lords that was embarassing!

You don't know anyone who thinks of anime as porno because you aren't old enough.

I'm saddened that the first hentai pic I've ever seen (saying, a picture of a naked anime girl in a sexual activity) was Chibi-Usa and a dog. A friend of mine downloaded it off a BBS (Proto Generation or whatever it was) and printed it out to scare me.

Anyhow, I too base a series on it's character designs at the start. I do the sdame with games, actually. Mainly because when something announced, that's all we have to go off of. But in many cases the characters can be more important than rest of the show itself. And if the girls are hot enough I'll watch it even if it sucks.

And speaking of JS, should thinking Enma Ai is really cute be a guilty thing? And should I feel guilty for pausing Nanoha's three transformation scenes to compare the differences? It's purely fan scutiny, I swear!

Oh and i must admit i didnt think you guys would be so funny about this but i am enjoying reading the post

In my book you are the winner the fact that you hide it from your girlfriend makes it all the funnier my heart goes out to you man i almost died from lack of air laughing when i read it

I have to agree there. Even the way they handled the legendary undefeated samurai Miyamoto Musashi was such that I had to love it. They didn't tarnish his image as the "coolest man to have ever lived" in my eyes at all. :>
