Loved ep2. Loved the house set-up. Loooved Saitou Chiwa. The Shinbou rhythms suck some drama out of things, but substitute a pleasantly weird feeling of their own.

OP animation is good, especially the photographs, but not as good as those for other recent Shinbou shows. I did like the song, however, sung by Saitou Chiwa (!)

Ah so Meg Rock will be writing the lyrics and the VA for each arcs Heroine will be singing than I guess. When it gets to Nadeko Snake I hope Kana Hanazawa can sing better than she did in Kannagi as Zange lol.

The new OP... The song was nice, but the visuals... Almost like Negima OVA's... Wasn't interesting, then again, what do you expect when there is nothing but a stapler moving on the screen the entire time?

...The story... is still so-so.
The main bad point for now is Shaft's overdone animation. Shaft's animation is entertaining and everything, but there is still a limit. Especially the "real-life" animation this episode... Egh... And it didn't stop there, but during a serious scene, stuff like the weird gag-like movements and that "pop" sound were just what... A cold gag?
Also, the animation along with the argument during the entire first half kind of ticked me off after a while...

The part where the story finally gets to the crab thing was interesting though. The Shaft animation here was also interesting.
But the problem is just this part of the episode was interesting...
The end with the weight thing was funny though.

...What was with the sudden (and creepy) character change of Hitagi at the end...
And who were the girls that suddenly appeared at the end...
Come to think of it, did the protagonist really do anything... Well, besides drag the girl around places.

Hmm... Well, as far as I've seen, it isn't bad, but I can't really say it is brilliant either. I guess I'll look forward to the next arc...

Pacing at the end is a bit off, but judging from what the Assistant Producer Oshima Miku said on the official blog, it's more of an editing problem than direction miss (not enough broadcast time) so I guess it'll be fixed in the BD/DVD release.

... Why do I feel that Hitagi seems similar, but different in her own way to a certain character in a certain manga... yes, I know both are written by Nisio Isin (the manga is drawn by someone else) but... yeah.

Pointing out her physical appearance + ... uh, showing herself off in undergarments habit to the main male lead...

Anyway, an interesting episode! Although I really have to wait for subs because I can't say I understood more than a smattering of lines and familiar keywords.

Spoiler for What I gathered:

Uh... okay first half I'm certain was full of wit and I'm certain most all of it flew right over my head. Second half, correct me if I'm wrong... they're doing the ritual to summon the crab, Oshino asks Senjougahara a bunch of questions, and she gives prompt replies up until he asks her what her most bitter memory is, and then she recounts some kind of event involving her mom or something which I couldn't gather the details of whatsoever, and apparently that's what caused the crab to take her weight or something? And once she came to terms with whatever feelings she had about that, she got her weight back?

Anyway! In high anticipation of subtitles (or at least the next summary that rolls along the blogosphere) and next week's episode.

Don't know, but this happens in the second episode of Maria Holic, too (same editor). The biggest problem is they used five animation directors by the second episode, which means they won't be able to keep the quality so long.

I thought she couldn't sing until I heard this OP. Probably the result of some technical magic keeping her in tune, but it sounded good to me.

I've been using various seiyuus as my avatar for 2-3 years now. I think Chiwa was the first. In fact, I think she was the first seiyuu whose name I knew, from being captivated by her when she played Hazuki in Tsukuyomi Moon Phase.

Not having been a fan of ARIA, she dropped from my view for a while. But here she is, doing an excellent, very professional job -- although unfortunately not sounding like her old self, but the new mature and homogenized version.
