-Too much exposition. It's like they're trying to fit a plot in there.
-They just had to throw in drama and action. We get enough of that in the main series!
-Miyuki needs to stop blushing at every little thing and make a move already.

I'm agree with what you're about to say.

Then again, Yuutousei's artwork also pretty good, Miyuki is cute, well, she will always be, though. Both of manga adaptation artworks are good, which pleases me.

Holy fuck... the protagonists in this manga are creepy as hell. Aside from that, I read all 5 chapters and thought it was all around terrible. I thought I would get some enjoyment out of this since I love harry potter-like settings, but I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed anything about this manga (so far).

harry potter? >_o there is not harry potter here or anything near to his character here in mahouka. Harry potter's wizard will be rendered useless here.

look like you didn't read the novel ... Tatsuya will be the one rendered useless if HP wizards exist

here's what happened if HP and Tatsuya meet and at the odd with each other:

Harry: send mind attack (like what Voldie do to him) to Tatsuya in his sleep
Tatsuya: see a vision he didn't want to, use Material Burst to erase it
Miyuki: dead because Material Burst
Tatsuya: NOOOOO....going nuts

and mind attacks won't work on Tatsuya or any kind of attack that he is weak. It can be destroyed by his spell. And of all the spells in HP there isn't that much eye catching total destructive that can bypass the level of attack that Tatsuya can't destroy.

When I said "harry potter-like" I was mainly referring to the magical school setting and whatnot.

The manga hasn't revealed anything about the MC's powers, so I can't say how Harry would fare against him

your right about that but if your telling about magic school thing then mahouka is set in the militaristic future setting. The students are meant for weapons or power of the country. They aren't in the hiding or some sort unlike in HP novels which is your typical mage. Then their is clan wars in mahouka too which can be said that the top "ten" family dominates it. Nothing similar if you ask me aside from being fantasy and magical because the school setting is different too and also the school rules with its student division since they are divided with different way unlike in HP.

I'd say that not only students but magicians in general are treated as weapons. In Yuutousei (in the last pages) Miyuki says something related to this.

Btw, the spin-off is giving a huge spoiler of the story in the novel, isn't it?
