Has any video game ever made you cry?

I haven't played straight through any Final Fantasy games, so there's only one game that ever made me cry.
...MegaMan Battle Network 3.

Not really, no.

I think with games the gameplay detracts players from the story too much for there to be any (very) significant build up of emotion. At least to a level where I would start crying.

No games has ever made me cry. Except when Iam playing online. When I beat the mess out of somebody with style and flawlessly, my eyes water up.

I played World of Warcraft in PC, and it sometimes made me cry, especially after the stupid tank (the warrior) decides to go straight to the boss and ignore us squishy nukes (rogue and mage) and healers (priest, shaman, druid) and so, responsible to an instance/raid party wipe.

Yea, theres only 1 game that made me cry.

Stage 49 of SRW@3 made me cried twice, Ai Oboeteimasuka and Try Again + touching dialogues.

I'll admit FFX's ending did. But then again I've become more...emotional as I've grown older I don't see the problem with crying if a game affects you. It's the same as with movies to me.

SRW games are the only ones that make me seriously emotional too. Various scenes.

I think FFX almost got me. Other than that, I can't really think of another.
Oh yeah, I think my eyes also got abit watery with Tales of Legendia, Will's CQ ending.

As with Ryuu-Odjn, I've become more emotional with age.

This is probably most right, and why I think games really can't compete with movies, tv shows or even books as a pure story-telling medium.

Many times the intensity of the scenes just fade away when you pick up the controller and move onto the next scene, or get into the next random battle, the impact of the story fades away into memory. Even "atmospheric" games that centre strongly around their story like the Silent Hill series detracts from the experience by having monsters, although the monsters are significant to the actual story.

I think FFX probably has the most consistent, coherent and involving story of the series... but I played through it in 40 hours and it's only in hindsight that the fragments come together.

edit: And I forgot to answer the question --- I think not. At least, none of them while I was actually playing the game.

Remittance Man, you might want to point out next time for what game the spoiler would be outside the spoiler tag. Now I spoiled myself for Mega Man Battle Network 3 when I thought it was going to be a Final Fantasy game or something. Your sentence about Final Fantasy wasn't very clear to me.

Anyway, yes, I've cried on some occasions. The ending of Lufia (SNES) made me cry. The ending of Lufia II (SNES) made me get tears in my eyes.

FFX got to me, because I was seriously hooked on it while I played. PlaneScape: Torment had more of an awe-inspiring effect than tear-jerking.

Crescendo was the first game to make me cry. Kyoko's story really connected with me for some reason.

Disgaea, the chapter where we find out about Laharl's mother. Usually something of that level wouldn't, but I think it caught me off guard because the rest of the game was so funny.

Finally, Planetarian, which I'm not sure if you can really consider a game, as there are no decision points. At the end I couldn't even look at the cg of... well I probably shouldn't say any more, even in a spoiler tag... Anyway, it was all I could do to keep reading the text, yet I couldn't stop reading either... I thought I was prepared for that kind of ending, but it still got to me. DAMN YOU KEY!!!

Me too.

Though, that was quite a while ago and I've noticed I've become quite the crybaby since then so it probably would get me to tears if I played it again now.
