Ryuukishi interview time.
EPISODE EIGHT WILL HAVE (A) CHOICE(S) Rough translation from Lazarillo: I don't intend for this to be the end of the story. Episode six was the end of Battler and Beato's tale. Episode seven was the end of (spoilers omitted) Episode eight is... It might not be that it's over when the writing is done. Is it okay to say this? I might worry you. Before, BT-san used to say things like this. If it were him, would he really say it? It might have a different meaning in that case. (TL note: Bit unsure here) Episode eight has (a) choice(s) You become a character and make choices from his point of view. There's also (a) bad end(s) The choice(s) are pretty tough. Seeing the murder for the first time, you might not be able to understand at first. Thoughts? IMO it'll either be "Was it mystery, or was it fantasy?" or Yasu choosing his identity. |

If I wanted choices I could be playing something else. And, what's more, I could even be getting porn. Was the "spoilers omitted" from R07 or from the translator? Because if it's from the latter, I'm interested on them.

Wow...
That's pretty unexpected.... You're worrying me R07, but I'm still loving this though... EDIT: Still waiting for someone else to confirm this 'interview.' Also with further contemplation: It might not be over when it's done? We won't understand the murders at first? This leaves me guessing a lot.... Maybe a new episode leading into a new series/arcs? At first I was expecting a light epilogue finally shedding truth on the rest of Rokkenjima, but now he's throwing us another curveball.

Now that I think more clearly about it, if these options lead to endings that are clearly stated as fictional, yet acceptable enough for players who, perhaps, would like to see happier ends, then I'm fine with them, as long as we get a "true route" in which we can how the real events in Rokkenjima unfolded, no matter what they were.
Of course, if we get some "choose the answer you like best" type of ending, then I'll be extremely disappointed.

Got sauce for you.
http://teal.sakura.ne.jp/time_of_bli...umi_live3.html It's a transcript from a live interview Ryuu gave at a concert Dai did. And as a translator myself, I can confirm Laz's translation. The "spoiler" was "Ep. 7 provided an end to the mystery." |

So we aren't even getting a motive for all the killings other than "lol money"? That's....Yyyeah okay. Well, I'll take it. It could have been worse, but it feels anticlimatic. |

Well, I guess he had to make it count as a "game" at some point.
If true, I think this might set some sort of VN record for longest stretch of reading before a choice node, at something like 50+ hours. Assuming this means what it seems to mean, and honestly at this point I don't even know with this guy. EDIT: Also... Quote:

Hmm... Well, I guess now it sounds interesting. The idea that you can take the viewpoint of a character, may give us a lot of insight regarding their own personalities, motivations amongst other things, and all the information we gather from this may help us to get a clearer vision of the truth, and understand what exactly happened during EP7's Tea Party and why it actually happened. In addition, the happy/sad endings for each scenario would be something like Lion's world type of scenarios I suppose. I guess this sounds... hmm... rather intriguing.
But, if he does something like this, wouldn't EP8 end up becoming an extremely long episode to write... especially considering he said he started not so long ago? Although, well, the character's scenarios may not be that long. So, my guess is that the main story will be the "multi-route" scenario. The Tea Party will probably (and hopefully) be the true story, and the ???? Tea Party will probably be an epilogue, or something like that. Quote:
How did you expect getting Umineko Zero otherwise?

That sums up my reaction nicely. It's a magnificent bastard move if I ever saw one. Quote:
But now, NOW I HAVE EXPERIENCE. It's on. You hear that Ryuukishi? IT'S ON. Eh bien monami, from now on it's elementary what you have to do; launch your challenge to the reader and the game will be afoot, and I swear I will solve it in the name of my grandfather who some argue might be Sherlock Holmes though my biographer might just be insane because I went Oxford leaving me with a slight English accent which makes living in a small british village an excellent opportunity to learn about human nature because I swear there is only one truth and I will catch the criminal, I swear, BUT YOU MUST GIVE ME TIME! I'm not sure how many references I just made. |

I'm curious why he even bothers to say "a character," given that there's about a 90% chance of it being Battler.
But really, this is causing me to lose a lot of respect for him if it is as the suggestion sounds (though of course it may not be). I was interested in his answer to his own story, not mine. If I wanted to give him my answer, I'd write one. The only way he could redeem himself with this is if you're making the choices as the murderer. Because, let's face it, it would be kind of awesome if we had to use what we think we know about the killer's plans and methods to execute the crimes. But at this point I think he just wants to screw with us and run off laughing. Christ.

Hoh, is this our kakera-musubi, then? How pleasant, how pleasant!
The warning that the some of the choices will be unpleasant is quite interesting... Sounds to me like the game is either going to be from Yasu's POV or the culprit's. Either way we should see how the witch's illusion was orchestrated behind the scenes.
