hmm ive only jst started watching this, and was wondering if anyone could give me a brief description on how it started to episode 32 cheers, and how Al is a robot ?? thnx
I don't wanna descripe.. But i can say that Al came into that body cuz Ed and Al tried to tranmutate their mother(make her).. But it failed and somebody took Al's body and Ed's arm.. And Ed tried to attach Al's soul into that body but he lost his leg.. and then he could attach Al's soul and thats how he got that metal body.. MEH!
Edward and Alphonse Elric are alchemists. They found their father's library and taught themselves alchemy to a point. Their father left them and their mother died while they were still young. The Elric brothers decided that they would resurrect their mother using alchemy (this is a big no-no in alchemy). They met another alchemist named Izumi who they convinced to teach them. After she taught them, they went back home and tried to bring back their mother. It failed. Miserably. In the process, Ed lost his arm/leg and Al his entire body. Ed managed to save Al by binding his soul to a suit of armor nearby. Al carried Ed to the Automail shop(?) where Winry, their friend, lived and worked with her grandmother(?). They saved Ed's life. Roy Mustang, a State Alchemist, saw the amazing flash of light from human transmutation and told the Rockbells that if Ed survived, he should come be a State Alchemist (military alchemists, not very appreciated but powerful). Ed and Al left to go and train to become State Alchemists. After learning and being slightly blackmailed, Edward Elric became the youngest State Alchemist with the rare ability to perform a transmutation without a circle. The Elric brother's goal from here on out was to find something known as the Philosopher's Stone, an amazingly powerful alchemy focus, and use it to restore their bodies.
Recent:
Spoiler:
Edward and Alphonse Elric travel around, looking for any information about the Philosopher's Stone that they can find. They've seen quite a few things along the journey but very little that leads them in the right direction. Meanwhile, a person only known as Scar is out killing Alchemists. Scar is a surviver from the slaughter in Ishbal with a wicked arm (see my avatar ^_^) that has some alchemic power in it. The arm was his brother's, who learned alchemy and might have been working on the Philosopher's stone (reports of people in Ishbal trying to make it before the massacre). The arm basically destroyes anything Scar wants it to. Scar is reaping vengeance throughout the cities, killing State Alchemists for all the people they killed, including his brother. Scar and the Elric brothers meet on several occasions and Scar does serious damage to them. Al has part of his body blown to bits and Ed has his AutoMail arm destroyed completely. Scar escapes and Ed and Al have to head back home for Ed to get a new arm made. After Ed's whole again, he reconstructs Al and they're ready to go searching again.
Present (BIG RECENT SPOILERS):
Spoiler:
There are a group of people known as the Homunculus. Seven of them currently exist, named after the seven deadly sins. Envy, a shapeshifter; Lust with her eerie fingernails of doom; Wrath and his ability to alchemicly merge with anything; Sloth and her aquadic body; Greed and his invulnerability; Gluttony and the jaws of doom; and Pride, who has yet to be seen. These Homunculus are the result of human transmutation and they want to be normal despite being rather evil. They spend their time getting Ed to make a Philosopher's Stone so they can become normal humans. A Philosopher's Stone is pretty much going to be made of people and cost lives at this point, so Ed refuses to make it and decides that he'll find another way to get his and Al's bodies back to normal or another way to make the stone. The Homunculus are infiltrating the army (Sloth's the Fuhrer's secretary, Envy takes the form of State Alchemists whenever it suits her, Lust and Gluttony egg on Ishbal survivers when the State Alchemists show up looking for Scar, etc.) and causing all kinds of trouble. Ed and Al have returned to their teacher, Izumi, to find out that she also performed the illegal and taboo act of human alchemy on her dead infant son. She lost some part of her in the process and Wrath was eventually born from it. Having been born of Izumi's son and Edward's limbs that were lost when trying to bring back Mom and then Al, Wrath is evil. Everyone wants to kill Wrath except for a few State Alchemists who try to capture him and learn what he is. Since all seven Homunculus are now alive and named, something big is going to go down over it. Talk from the new and evil-looking State Alchemist (Archer?) makes it sound like there will be another big military encounter soon.
I've left out quite a few important characters and events, but this is basically what happened. Either watch from the beginning, wait for FUNimation to dub ( :fingers: ), or go read the individual episode guides that can be found here.
