Toyota President Expresses Regret Over Fatal Crash
Seems floor mats in some recent Toyota model cars are causing accelerators to stick, and brakes to fail. This fault caused an accident in San Diego, which resulted in the death of a family of four. Toyota President Akio Toyoda had this to say: Quote:

Actually, I find it pretty strange as to why an expensive luxurious Lexus could have a defective floor mat that takes lives of a family of four. This is horrible!! |

Not always the most expensive is the best and although I like toyota, I don't defend them. That maybe was not a material quality problem but probably design or improper installation. I have seen similar cases where I live, one of them involving Ford Explorer. At the end Ford executives ended up blaming the tires.

I'm just glad I didn't panic so I was able to figure out that there was something blocking the gas pedal, and that it wasn't wrapped around too badly so I was able to get it out. If I hadn't kept my cool, or if it was harder to get out, tings could have ended badly.
Sonce you mentioned it, it was a Ford that it happened to me in. An escort though, not an explorer. I can't remember if they were the mats that came with the car or aftermarket though.

As for the Toyota issue, I suspect it's the way their floor mats are installed. Bear with me as I try to explain this, with my utter lack of automotive knowledge. Unlike most floor mats, which simply lay on the floor underneath the pedals, Toyota floor mats (at least in some models of cars) actually wrap about the pedals. Because of this, the pedal supports that go through the floor can rub against the floor mats from time to time. If the mats slip, they can jam against the pedal support and cause the pedals to stick.

I'm aware of what happened with the Explorer, thanks anyway for clarifying the situation. I cited the case only to give another example of defective cars( in this case the problem were the tires). Although you should remember that the behavior of the tires only happened in the Explorer, so the thing was strange. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

Hiroshima mayor requests that Obama visit city in meeting with Roos
Quote:
Although I don't see Obama as such but not everybody agrees. After all, Obama is just going to be visiting Hiroshima to pray at the atomic bombing memorial, not like he is going on an apology tour of some sort. Nobody expects the Obama Administration to do something like that yet it appears Obama is reluctant to visit Hiroshima due to issues dealing with right-wings in the United States and also his failing approval rates. Okada admits possible 'negative' impact of ending refueling mission
Quote:
Considering that Obama first asked for re-consideration to extend the refueling mission but was somewhat ignored. Then, lots of leaders of the Afghanistan mission allies continue to seek a re-consideration on the issue of ending the refueling mission but in the end, they were also ignored. Negative impact? It'd be strange if there isn't going to be one.. Nonetheless, it cannot be helped as that it is a fact that the majority do not approve the refueling mission. |

http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2...gun-cases.html Should be intresting- this is a different take than the Heller case cause Heller was a federal ban and this one is a question of states' rights to restrict gun ownership in Illlinois. |
