No, pretty much all of us don't care much who he's going to end up with. We're more upset with the direction the story is going. Starting from normal gun-fight in first volumes with some psychic power, okay, we can accept that. Then come stuff like Gods, Vampires werewolves, time travel, one eyed Nazi witch and suddenly, Kinji goes Super Saiyan and started catching bullets with his bare hands and pulled out hypersonic punches. that's why.

uh? Kinji has the potential to catch bullets with his bare hands so its not really surprising with HSS hax. Heck, he punch or is it kick a missile homing to him in mach 2 speed. I'm more revolted on how the story is being handled than Kinji going hss hax though I find super saiyan or any cheap power up childish and labeled them as shounen power ups

I don't like stupid power ups. I prefer the skill hone through life time then asspull power up by a week training or in a middle of battle.

weren't some of his abilities with the HSS hax taught to him by simply being told to observe it from his brother, father (I doubt if he ever did teach Kinji and Kinichi during their youth but if he did, it most likely will be on the Hotogi grounds) and possibly grandparents.

the grandparents probably did teach Kinji a thing or two. When G III met the grand parents. He begs for a technique and grandpa show a ougi or secret technique. A palm technique that destroys concrete wall. That itself shows the tohyama are monsters without HSS.

Plus Kinichi or Kinji's big brother did teach Kinji when he is young and we can say most of his techniques are from him and some are derive from him from observation and battle against him.

Kinji pulling an asspull power up isn't far from the truth because HSS is an asspull ability if you ask me though its conditional its still strong but its genetics so I just accept it but most of his asspull moves are explain "as expected of hysteria mode" lol lol

Kinji catch a sniper bullet with his teeth in the battle with Patra if I remember it right. I also remember him doing it with chopsticks with the arc with Moe and the other blond girl(I forgot the name though I'm not really sure here. My memory isn't that clear on that book)

Note in that quote I said "ridiculous", not "unlikable" Kinji + Aria falls under that second description for me personally, but not the first. Ridiculous is for example things like relationship issues being resolved not by talking or even a fight (shounen series logic lol, understanding your opponent after a fight), but because the MC is a goddamn lolicon and his attraction overwhelmed his reasoning. And for the record I'd be just as pissed if for example it was a fight between him and Riko, and Kinji let up because of boobs - I dislike protagonists that 'think' with their baser instincts in these cases instead of sussing out their emotions.

Kinji is indeed unable to "forget" about Aria.

But you have to remember that the only reason Kinji is trying to gain these Irokane (or whatever it was called) is because he does indeed want to save Aria.

Urrrrrrgh. Volume 17 Chapter 3 for the first time in HnA makes me seriously want to drop this series for good - it's worse than Vol15 or anything else about the series I've complained about -.-

The translators haven't finished (they're up to end of ch3) despite their timetable saying it should have been finished a week ago; Schedule Slip strikes the internet once again. I'll continue to keep a eye on the translations, but I'll warn everyone now that I may drop this series for good depending on how the volume plays out. I'm treating this as how I'm treating the Infinite Stratos series, if there's even just one more ridiculous thing happen then I'll drop-kick whatever empathy I have for the franchise over the horizon.

Spoiler for Up to Vol17Ch3:

Continuing on from end of Vol16, Kinji and Lisa goes back to Nazi base to kick ass. Jeanne is freed and held off Petra in a magical fight while Kinji and Lisa wipes out the Nazis.
One of the few high points of this volume was Kinji telling Jeanne she should be glad the 'Beast of Gevaudan' is female, and Jeanne deadpanned it's due to Kinji's ability to seduce girls working in the situation Kinji explained he meant that Jeanne wouldn't end up as a sacrifice now seeing as the sacrifice tend to be the opposite sex.

Sella is the descendant of Robin Hood, with wind manipulation ability. She and Kinji led to a projectile battle, with her arrows good enough to stop Kinji's shots in midair. Yami and Kinji duked it out, with even Kinji snarking this fight was more intense than the fight against Lisa on the missile (ie, Vol16 climax fight).

This volume spits on the "Guns are the ultimate weapon" shtick at the beginning of the HnA series, not once did Kinji do anything meaningful with his guns. The fight with G3 a while back at least made it look good without guns, this time it's just plain useless. Yami's physically strong enough that bullets does 0 damage to her. As with all other fights in this volume I've read so far, both Kinji and Yami are spamming supersonic blows like nothing - WTF, is this DBZ? Their fight gets broken up as Yami doesn't have permission from Hapi (her boss, and the Oni that showed up at the declaration of War that took Aria's Irokane) to go all out, so she and Sella retreated after the Nazis got KOed.

Charlotte, the Vatican helper allied with the Nazis, was apprehended by Kinji before she could escape. Kinji even quipped "Jesus said 'love thine enemy'" as he did so >.>

After the fight, Lisa is handed to Kinji as 'Spoils of War' according to Nazi's terms of surrender Kinji even says when Shirayuki finds out both of them are going to be killed by her Neither side in Europe want a Werewolf stomping around like a natural disaster.
Charlotte is scheduled to be sent to a monastery in Sicily for having failed, and the Vatican's betrayal led to a loss of power in general.
Nazi eyepatch witch handed Kinji Aria's Irokane afterwards. Kinji thought it's likely Petra will negotiate to hand her Irokane over as well, so out of the 7 pieces stolen from Aria only one is left.

Ch1 ends with Kinji catching a plane back to Japan with Lisa. With a side note the previous War between the factions happened 87 years ago.

Ch2:
So, everyone guesses there's going to be a fight between Lisa and Team Baskerville for the main girl as part of Kinji's harem? Well, SUCKS TO BE US READERS. No conflict between Lisa and the team, nada, zilch. Lisa is integrated perfectly; Shirayuki is 'Put on a Bus' and went back to her shrine for the time being, and everyone else accepts Lisa. Aria believes all Lisa is to Kinji is his hired maid Aria, if Sherlock is dead he'd be rolling in his grave if he knows you let your Ojou-sama upbringing blind you to Lisa's threat. Heck, Riko flat out said Lisa was a high member in IU as well >.>
Reki is her usual 'meh I don't care' mode, and her pet wolf submits to Lisa's werewolf bestial superiority. Kinji notes this is a first.

The only thing of note here was Lisa tried to hang up a picture of Kinji when he was crossdressing, leading to Kinji almost getting in trouble and others figuring out the very attractive woman was Kinji

Random stuff after that:
-Lisa is enrolling in Butei High, Health courses like Moe. (btw, Moe isn't in Kinji's class 2A - she's in class 2B)
-After Europe's fighting Kinji is bumped up to #71 in Asia in terms of strength
-Riko is playing a Nintendo DS, TLers saying it looks to be Pokemon Black/White 2
-random fanservice scenes with Lisa, trying to wash Kinji's back in the bathroom and sleeping with Kinji

-Watson dragged Kinji to a hot springs park for 'training', and talked to him about the Demonic Blade duo. Nothing new about them except they vanished. (Flere note: Srsly? A new rival is brought in recently and now they're shelved already? WTH?)
-Kinji is told in exchange for Europe submitting to Kinji's side, Tokyo is to take down their barrier that blocks supernatural incursions. This screams 'Asspull' and serves no reason other than to railroad plot -.-
-Kinji is treated by both sides of the War as a threat on the same level as IU, because he just won't die and he always wins from outsiders' POV. I call Bullshit on this, given the number of other heavy-hitters in-setting that's more of a threat than Kinji and they don't get treated the same. More railroading to force Kinji into conflict, as this again builds up a situation where Kinji will be hunted and assassinated by all sides.

Kinji meets up with his old friends/classmates; the vehicle major guy, the merchant girl that sells Kinji supplies, and 不知火 (the all-rounder in Assault). Kinji is kinda scared of this guy after their first mission together to stop bank robbers and he just blew out the leader's kneecaps with a smile. They were supposed to form a team, but after Aria showed up that plan got shafted.
More of his backstory is shown, with Kinji having no real info on him and he let slip he's here to keep a eye on Kinji from the very beginning.

Stuff from this meeting:
-merchant girl is going to Los Angeles to join the think-tank there that makes weapons
-She hands a list of upgrades for Kinji's stuff
-Armed Investigator's role in modern day society
-The Assault teacher has a hate-on for Valentines after being rejected a while back
-Aria shows up and gets hospitalized for no apparent reason (we later find it's likely to do with the Scarlet God/dess).


Ch3:
BADLY WRITTEN PLOT AHEAD, SKIP IF YOU LIKE NOT HAVING A HEADACHE

Aria is hospitalized, with UK personnel heavily guarding Aria's room. Kinji fears they're there to forcibly take Aria back to UK, and in his BRILLIANT idea (that's meant to be sarcastic on my part BTW) Kinji decides to take up a part time job in the general store in the hospital building in order to look for a weakness in the guard roster and sneak in to visit Aria. *facepalm* Kinji, YOU HAVE A TEAM, NO, TWO BUTEI TEAMS (incl Jeanne's) THAT WOULD HELP YOU IF YOU ASK, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU DOING THIS ALONE?! None of them even like UK agents (because Watson don't care either way by this point because of her infatuation for Kinji >.>).

Worse, this Idiot Ball of a venture is basically much Kinji being bullied and justifies Kinji ot retailiating because "Kinji has to keep cover" After the semi-Epic fight that was Ch1, seeing Kinji being kicked down due to petty bullying seriously pisses me off.
And guess what? Kinji never needed to pull this stunt because Aria's good enough to run out any time she wanted to, as shown at the end of the chapter. *facepalm* I'd use a more emphatic smily, but that's probably spamming.

And as expected, due to Tokyo's barrier being taken down Yami, Hapi and another Oni show up to try and kidnap Aria for her Irokane. Kinji fights them, with guns being useless and both sides spamming supersonic attacks. Fight and chapter ends with the Onis taking a strategic retreat, and Kinji & Aria pursuing.

tl;dr This volume is a mess, substandard even by HnA's usual standards. If a series' Vol1 was this bad I would have dropped it already.

Other than that, the final battle was pretty decent.

Oh hey, we got decent plot now. Aria started to grow horns like a Oni, because of the lack of Irokane parts inside her from before. Kinji and others hastily returning all Irokane parts as soon as they got it only sped up the process of Aria transforming into a Scarlet goddess. Yamamo said she and Kinji need to execute Aria now, before she falls completely. Kinj managed to persuade her to give him some time, as he refuse to fight against Aria and Yamamo doesn't want to fight Touyama clan members.
Jeanne and others will help Kinji in this; Riko is pretending to be Aria to throw off UK agents.
Kinji left a button camera at the Oni's aerial plane/base, and they found another Oni heavy-hitter - a genius inventer that participated in WW2 and created the Japanese B-29. She only listened to Sherlock, and was one of the founding members of IU.

In return for Riko's help, Kinji promised when he comes back from this trip he'll go out with Riko, as her official boyfriend. Kinji thought this is preferable to paying the 10 million price tag Riko charged Aria.

Kinji took Aria back to his home, in preparation for their trip. Aria is going to meet his grandparents. And Kinji mistook Aria's nervousness for that as knowing Kinji's grandfather was blacklisted by the US as Dangerous personnel
Kinji's grandparents then left soon afterwards, after hearing something urgent happened with Kinichi. Kinji asked if it was something like Kinichi died then revived, and his grandfather said nothing that mundane - that's nothing special for the Touyama men
After reaching Kinichi's place, we found Petra started living with Kinichi And after Kinichi got back and revealed the important news, we found those two got married O_O

Kinichi talked with G3, and they found 'Hidan no Aria' (Aria of the Scarlet Ammo) doesn't mean Aria is possessed by the Scarlet god/dess, but instead Aria could use the scarlet Irokane to its full potential. Apart from being practically invincible in a fight, Hidan also gives the user immortality, ability to travel through time and space, and even revive the dead. So far the incomplete manifestation of Hidan usage included Sherlock, who got the Immortality part of the package without losing his mind, and Sun Wukong who could use the power but at the price of losing control of her self.
Also explained was how Kinji and Aria's relation is capable of controlling the Irokane, as stated back at Sherlock's battle Love is a major factor for Scarlet Irokane. Kinji fails to understand the importance of this relation however

Shirayuki's clan was the ones who researched the Scarlet Irokane, and who devised the way to turn Sun Wukong into a Scarlet goddess. Their supernatural precognition also foretold Aria's enrollment in Tokyo and had sent Shirayuki there to prepare for that.

Kinichi is retiring as a active member of Touyama clan fighter after being married - love stablises after marriage, which is detrimental to HSS use. Also mentioned is that as they get older HSS loses its potency - in previous volumes they also touched on being aroused is the key of HSS, and that doesn't happen as much once they get older.
... Oh hey, Aria was hiding under the veranda while Kinichi and Kinji talked about HSS. Now she (finally) knows everything. Even Aria snarked at Kinji he's a lolicon for being attracted to her And Aria said both the HSS Kinji and normal Kinji are both Kinji, she doesn't like one more than the other (d'aww).

We finally got more info on Aria's sister - named 'Menuet', fairly serious in attitude, and she inherited Sherlock's deduction skills. Menuet is employed by the British royal family, despite her young age.

Kinji confessed to Aria - and the next second the Scarlet God/dess awoken. It laughed, being surprised that Aria unlocked its full potential not in battle but in love. The Scarlet God/dess now have its full ability, and taunted Kinji that Aria loves him as well - though she's unable to tell him herself now. It wanted to start another supernatural War, one that spans the whole world and aims to destroy anyone that could weaken her - because otherwise, it'll be boring.
Kinji went into HSS mode, and told It he wasn't a ally of justice - just Aria's ally. Kinji triggered Berserker HSS and 'King's HSS', because of having his girl taken away from him physically and mentally. Kinji thought as 'King' versus 'God', he'd at least be able to fight evently with It.

Volume ends.

tl;dr, despite a ton of things that didn't make sense, the last Chapter of Vol17 is good enough that I'm taking HnA off my 'last chance, will drop if things gets worse' list.

We finally got more info on Aria's sister - named 'Menuet', fairly serious in attitude, and she inherited Sherlock's deduction skills. Menuet is employed by the British royal family, despite her young age.

Kinji confessed to Aria - and the next second the Scarlet God/dess awoken. It laughed, being surprised that Aria unlocked its full potential not in battle but in love. The Scarlet God/dess now have its full ability, and taunted Kinji that Aria loves him as well - though she's unable to tell him herself now. It wanted to start another supernatural War, one that spans the whole world and aims to destroy anyone that could weaken her - because otherwise, it'll be boring.
Kinji went into HSS mode, and told It he wasn't a ally of justice - just Aria's ally. Kinji triggered Berserker HSS and 'King's HSS', because of having his girl taken away from him physically and mentally. Kinji thought as 'King' versus 'God', he'd at least be able to fight evently with It.

tl;dr, despite a ton of things that didn't make sense, the last Chapter of Vol17 is good enough that I'm taking HnA off my 'last chance, will drop if things gets worse' list.

I am relieved that you stayed your wrath. So...what are the odds Kinji's gonna pull some sort of ridiculous OP move in his battle against god? And I mean super ridiculous and completely physically impossible?

OMFG, death is cheap in HnA these days... Yami used a palm strike to kill Kinji right off the bat in the final battle of this volume, the force of the blow designed to stop his heart, and Kinji just revived himself immediately afterwards -.- Fun fact, that move was cribbed off Kinji's ancestor when the Oni's ancestors fought him hundreds of years ago. The other move the Oni copied was 'Cage', the move Kinji used to counter G3's Sakura back when they fought.
Other than that, the final battle was pretty decent.

Oh hey, we got decent plot now. Aria started to grow horns like a Oni, because of the lack of Irokane parts inside her from before. Kinji and others hastily returning all Irokane parts as soon as they got it only sped up the process of Aria transforming into a Scarlet goddess. Yamamo said she and Kinji need to execute Aria now, before she falls completely. Kinj managed to persuade her to give him some time, as he refuse to fight against Aria and Yamamo doesn't want to fight Touyama clan members.
Jeanne and others will help Kinji in this; Riko is pretending to be Aria to throw off UK agents.
Kinji left a button camera at the Oni's aerial plane/base, and they found another Oni heavy-hitter - a genius inventer that participated in WW2 and created the Japanese B-29. She only listened to Sherlock, and was one of the founding members of IU.

In return for Riko's help, Kinji promised when he comes back from this trip he'll go out with Riko, as her official boyfriend. Kinji thought this is preferable to paying the 10 million price tag Riko charged Aria.

Kinji took Aria back to his home, in preparation for their trip. Aria is going to meet his grandparents. And Kinji mistook Aria's nervousness for that as knowing Kinji's grandfather was blacklisted by the US as Dangerous personnel
Kinji's grandparents then left soon afterwards, after hearing something urgent happened with Kinichi. Kinji asked if it was something like Kinichi died then revived, and his grandfather said nothing that mundane - that's nothing special for the Touyama men
After reaching Kinichi's place, we found Petra started living with Kinichi And after Kinichi got back and revealed the important news, we found those two got married O_O

Kinichi talked with G3, and they found 'Hidan no Aria' (Aria of the Scarlet Ammo) doesn't mean Aria is possessed by the Scarlet god/dess, but instead Aria could use the scarlet Irokane to its full potential. Apart from being practically invincible in a fight, Hidan also gives the user immortality, ability to travel through time and space, and even revive the dead. So far the incomplete manifestation of Hidan usage included Sherlock, who got the Immortality part of the package without losing his mind, and Sun Wukong who could use the power but at the price of losing control of her self.
Also explained was how Kinji and Aria's relation is capable of controlling the Irokane, as stated back at Sherlock's battle Love is a major factor for Scarlet Irokane. Kinji fails to understand the importance of this relation however

Shirayuki's clan was the ones who researched the Scarlet Irokane, and who devised the way to turn Sun Wukong into a Scarlet goddess. Their supernatural precognition also foretold Aria's enrollment in Tokyo and had sent Shirayuki there to prepare for that.

Kinichi is retiring as a active member of Touyama clan fighter after being married - love stablises after marriage, which is detrimental to HSS use. Also mentioned is that as they get older HSS loses its potency - in previous volumes they also touched on being aroused is the key of HSS, and that doesn't happen as much once they get older.
