Been trying to find one in English that has some sort of interactive gameplay like Sengoku Rance (not necessarily the same gameplay, but just gameplay in general). Unless it's absolutely fantastic, I'm just not feeling up for a normal choice and boink visual novel, so looking for one with a lot of gameplay.

Any suggestions? I'm heard good things about Kamidori Alchemy Master (or whatever it's called), but I don't think that's in English yet.

Gameplay based VN's (especially english translated ones) isn't my forte, since i don't like putting too much time in it but Kamidori was a pretty good one

There is also the classic Aselia the Eternal, which had an English release or Yumina the Ethereal, which i also had fun playing because the first half was fairly silly and the 2nd half had a different feel

Eiyuu Senki is getting an English ps3 port soon, not sure if that fits your criteria

Too bad that most eushelly games (well aside from Kamidori) aren't translated in English since some of them that i have read were fairly good. (like the ikusa megami series)

Kamidori is actually 100% in English. It's sort of "prequel" Himegari is the one that's not translated.

*cough* I started playing tone works's newest title and I love what I've seen so far. The MC is much better than Yuma from Hatsukoi 1/1 (no big deal, I guess

) and the one route completed had N O drama and a decently long epilogue/after story. To top it off: It was the childhood friend route

A random rant? Dear VN makers, please get rid off the overprotective "U-not-get-mah-litt'-garl" father tropes. Same for the stuborn Ojou-sama fathers. I'll build personally the boat to send them off! Marika's father was more of a tsun in that regard towards Ryousuke, so that was handled well enough. A normal father who accepts the MC and his daughter's decision, for example after seeing the MCs good points, with a warm clap/pat on the shoulder would be nice to see *nods*.

I just completed Favorite's Astralair no Shiroki Towa.
The good points: The OST, the main heroines, Riku disovering the meaning of family and friends, the slice and life aspect. The kindergarden trio in a non-lolicon way

The bad points: The routes felt dragged out, the mystery element while being connected to each route as a common factor gave me a headache in the "true route", the "true route" felt overall somehow not as good as the other individual routes.

Overall: As a jp. blogger stated, it might have been lovelier as a charage title instead of the mystery focus and the SoL aspect as side genre. I honestly started skipping after a guts-based half way into the true route. In retrospec a possible mistake as the final, final resolution left me with a few question marks, yet no energy to replay the route

A few routes started only to really get rolling or the romance aspect of it after roughly 3/4 way in.

Favourite route ranking: Otoba > Ichika=Rinne > Kotori = Korona >= True route.
The true route was not bad, but simply strange at points.
Korona's had a lovely beginning that consisted of basically the same daily life in-game, but was done in a "cute" way, yet the ending of her route or the end-drama was a big "WTF" moment and somehow unneeded IMHO.

I'm just replaying Fureraba to have it fresh in memory for the mini fandisk

. I still had the other routes asides of Rina's to complete and just finished Yuzuyu's. While I like the VN dearly, it's still a shame that the conversation "mode" has no influence once you've locked-on on one girl's route, like when the girl tells something about herself and Kyousuke is "Really? I didn't know" and I thought "You learnt it in one of the conversation topics!" *lol* Maybe it's generally hard or impossible to implement it from a programming PoV due to the many possibilities.

Other than that I completet Hoshiori and Märtopia.
For Märtopia, read (mod edit: link removed) if you are interested or if you like. It's really one of the "wasted potentials."

As I said earlier, I liked the game's general world setting of five fairytale worlds being put into one major world (Märtopia). We have Alice and Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, Ali Baba, Hänsel and Gretel from the Grim Brothers and Touko of a jp. folklore I don't know + May and Amara of Perrault's Little Red Riding Hood (I had to look that up *lol*). Obviously all characters are turned into girls (otherwise Hänsel would be a boy).

Story: The story is cliché with an overall good outcome and goody-goody power to convert bad guys to allies for the final battle. That is outside of loving/minding clichés or not, though. The VN is divided into a Prologue, four chapters and Epilogue with heroine-of-choice, more later. But, overall the story felt rushed with at times sudden scene changes and rather unpolished. Being uncreative myself, I can't say what could have been done differently. Personally, I'm fine with clichés being used, but a bit more finetuning and dunno a bit more "juice" to it would have been great.

Battle System: The BS is in an army-esque style. From the eight heroines you can choose six and place them on a grid; three in the front row (for doing the actual battle), and three in the backrow for support skills (with a exception). Afterwards the battle happens automatically, per round on a timer basis. The only interaction during that part is Akito's (Main Character) skills which need, depending on the skill, different amounts of charges. These charges are built over time and the build-up time can't be sped up. The other "interactive" element is each heroines special attack. Takes usually around 1.5 rounds to fill the gauge and applies only to the front row.
Each heroine is divided into one of three categories: Defense, Offense, Range Attack (RA). Due to this the RAs are mostly in the backrow for their support abilities (+ Attack % and/or + Defense %), leaving us with two Offense to beat the crap out of, first their own assigned enemies, and ultimately the boss in center row.
-> You don't really have much choice in terms of battle set-up. You can change backrow and frontrow after each round OR change one character with either the person next to her or behind her. Exception: Akito's skill, which consumes a charge up to two.

You can level up your heroines in "Free Battles" which consists of the previously-fought ones + Challenge Battles. Per level-up you get one skill point. Skill points can be distributed to the three main stats: attack power, defense, vitality and two passive abilities. The main stats have three ranks, so to max one you need 15 skills points (3 for rank 1, 5 for rank 2, 7 for rank 3). Passive skills need 25 points in total (Rank 1: 5, Rank 2: 10, Rank 3: 15). On a new game plus you keep your skills points and levels are being resetted .

Characters: The characters are cute and deredere Alice is adorable *lol*. The true identity of the villain's "boss" is hardly being kept as a secret, but the ultimate confirmation is being drawn out a bit (even if the reader knows it immediately ^^). After each battle you get a heart fragment which can be used in fixed intermissions to choose a heroine for a heart event. The heart fragments are from level 1 to 5, so for Heart Event 2 you need Heart Fragment level 2, etc. Those with maxed out hearts, i. e. completed events, are eligible for the selectable ending.
The bad? The event progression is rather rushed and abrupt. The relationship is being kept within the events and the epilogue and the scene before the staff roll. Seeing that the "happy ending" for Akito and heroine-of-choice is veeeery deus ex machina without any form of build-up, the epilogue serves mostly to give that @sspull th minimal amount of exposure. Obviously, each heroine thinks dearly of Akito so I can see why the heart event progression can't be put into the main game.

Conclusion: IMHO the potetial for a really enjoyable VN, but the pacing leaves to be desired, the character events do not influence the main game and the h-scenes have no real purpose *imho*. In that regard, Märtopia might have been more comfortable as an all-age VN. Battle are rather straight forward: Spam Rabbit's special attack whenever possible as it deals direct damage, spam the other abiltites on the beginning of a round as the buff for the respective character will only last for that round it's being cast. Use Aktio's charge points for light healing and/or much later on to activate a heroine's special attack (which consumes her currently build-up gauge) or, if applicable, to reset the battle timer.

As for Hoshiori: Definitely my favorite VN of that month's releases. The slife-of-life, romance, and after story were absolutely lovely. And the MC is more awesome than Yuma from Hatsukoi 1/1. Sure, some routes or their progression were not perfect, but the overall package was well worth it

. Rika's route is my personal favorite.

Guess it really shows that I'm fully at home in the drama free romance settings.

I was looking through images the other day and I saw some pics from Magical Marriage Lunatics. I played the game a long time ago but I remembered I still had some questions about what happened during certain routes. So maybe someone who played it and still remembers it can explain some things for me.

I have only played Rina's part, but it's indeed a *mini* fandisc. Her mini-route took only about 30 - 45 minutes to complete with CTRL-skipping the ero-scene

It seems some revelations were revealed by her dad about Yuuta or something. I remember a scene where it seemed like they knew each other in a past life or something but I didn't really understand much about what was going on. In Karin's route, I know the priest cursed Karin and her grandmother or something so they remained in their Fox Form (that or they couldn't sustain their human form), but what exactly did Karin do to fix that? It seems she and Yuuta had to seperate for a while, but I'm not sure about why. In Ruruna's route...I honestly don't know what happened after she summoned the demon she was trying to summon the entire time. All I know is that it appeared in...her eyes I think temporarily, and then she went to speak with her parents and didn't return for days or something before Yuuta seriously got worried. So yeah, I'm totally lost here. So yeah, hopefully someone can fill me in. Thanks to anyone who replies.
