What you said was probably really clever, but it may have gone over my head. Are you implying that all of the characters that this author writes are just there for the purpose of the reader projecting themselves into them? I never really got that vibe.

You never really got that vibe? I'm sorry to tell you that ... I think that way too. None of his mains are really designed in such a way IMHO. In fact the narration itself is mostly in the 3rd person point of view, and/or is very dynamic at switching from one character to another for most of his works (with the exception of Zashiki Warashi, maybe). It's really hard to self insert when your target suddenly went off screen.
However it doesn't change the fact that most people likes to project themselves into those characters for better immersion, regardless of the author's intent. I'm used to think that most Otaku who read LNs are of that kind, and my post was a small satirical joke directed to them (not really addressed to you).

^I didn't think you were directing anything at me in a negative manner. I agree that a lot of light novels have main characters that feel like nothing more than an excuse for the reader to project.

The author of H/O is very good at writing extreme characters...Index is a prime example of that, and it may very well be the point of the series. What I like about H/O is that the characters are not extreme, but the objects themselves are. I like that the situations are ridiculous and not so much the characters.

"Extreme characters" ... indeed, I think that's the term I was looking for these past 3 years.

Is Froletia 18 already? I remember her around 17 or something but not sure. Its because of her age and her being in front lines which stop her family from turning her into a breeding sow. But man, Quenser looks manly on that part.

Spoiler for vol 6:

I still can't understand why those boys hasn't risen in military ranks. If I where their commanding officer. I would promote them even if they cause trouble but that is why your promoting them. To make them closer to you and keep them away from causing stupid trouble and only send them where it counts. Its such a waste of human talent.
