If you're referring to the US, then Socialism will NEVER happen. It's just a small group of us that believe in it. But it's the US version of it..not the European version LOL. ALthough I do admit to liking Japan's democratic socialistic views.

oddly enough I'm registered as a libertarian.

Nothing wrong with socialism really, if it is exercised right. Besides, with current government regulations they recently passed here in the US, I am not exactly convinced we are still in a complete democracy.

OTOH, Japan is utterly socialist. Voting doesn't extend to the higher office. Then again, people don't care if they are able to directly cast votes for the position of prime minister, and things aren't going poorly. Oh well.

Yeah...same here. Not completely convinced either. Then again, US's capitalist pigs make me want to upchuck. It's because of them, I've actually boycotted the game of Monopoly LOL.

Oh yes, VERY Socialistic. And yes they don't seem to mind. Such a collective mindset, Japan is. I think if they were living in a total democracy, the crime rate would be much higher. Here in the US, we've embraced individualism and I'm not saying this is a bad thing but I believe it's one of the causes of our high crime rates.

Anyyhow....we seriously need the next episode. LOL

I used to be a big fan of libertarian ideals until at some point decided privatizing social services just wouldn't be a good idea. Or the Federal Reserve.

Speaking of politics, and Frontier, is Howard Glass the Frontier president, or the NUNS president? Hmmm...

Good question...somehow I assumed he President of Frontier. I may have to rewatch past episodes to see if I missed anything that indicated such data.

Either way, I've grown to loathe President Glass....hoping he receives some form of a pineapple salad soon.

Impeach Glass!!!

I just don't see how in 2059 he can get away with that anti-Zentradi attitude. Sigh. Anyway, the question came up on MW a little while ago but it devolved into a discussion of Japanese lacking particles (?) like 'a,' or 'the.' Howard Glass: The NUNS President? or Howard Glass: A NUNS President.

He is most likely just the president of the Frontier, much like Milia's position. After all, if he was the president of NUNS, you think a certain ZENTRADI SUPREME COMMANDER OF ALL FLEETS won't have at least one etsy bitsy thing to say about the matter?

LOL, that's definitely a different turn in discussion.

I'm a little peeved that President Glass has received about as much development as a rock....Leon is just one step above him in development I suppose. We only know bits and pieces of his agenda through other people's conversations (Kathy and Ozma)

I suppose we'll get some miniscule answers in the next episode.

If his position is like Milia's in M7 does that mean his authority echoes that of a mere Mayor? (I'm trying to recall how far Milia's authority extended to)

Sheryl's stone = fold quartz = ability to fold without folding dislocations = move in the galaxy in real time. Those fold quarts are made by the Vajra: there is a reason you see some died Vajra brought on Frontier...

Ah thanks!

I think I will rewatch the past episodes while waiting for the next one. I missed a lot of info inbetween.

I think looking at Milia *may* paint a bit of a skewed perspective being that she was married to the Captain of 7. Max definitely looked scared to tell her no on a number of occasions.

Cathy's father has really been painted as an incompetent bigot so I too am waiting for him to get the pineapple treatment. And as for withdrawal, I've been experiencing it since decultured edition and the joy as Thursday comes around is replaced by depression directly after I see the episode...

On Macross Frontier's official site, he's described as 新統合政府大統領, which seems to make him the President of NUNS. However, the job description that follows seem to limit his authority to the Frontier Fleet only.

Thus, the best explanation I can think of is that Glass is the NUNS president for the Frontier Fleet (Federalism anybody?).

Have we actually seen the Zentradi supreme commander in Frontier yet?

Maybe it's a rotating position... the 'Mayor' of one fleet gets promoted to President of the NUNS for a certain amount of time and then the Mayor of another fleet gets their turn.

Tell me about it...less than 30 minutes of bliss...and then gone until another week. Gah...

I keep thinking he'll perish right alongside Leon.

I wonder how long his term is...typical 4 years? I'm just assuming since a mayor position in Japan is 4 years.

Unfortunately the website doesn't mention anything beyond his responsibilities as President.

Yeah, the job description

フロンティア船団における
行政の統括責任者

would indicate he does not reign over anything beyond that cubicle known as Macross Frontier. I'd expect him to pay at least lip service to Earth.
