Somewhat. Most of it still rested on Battler's shoulders (i.e: Tea party). Ange is related to Battler and her last words was what compelled Battler to try harder. Erika, on the other hand...

Yes, we knew Ange existed, but she was 6 years old and she was ill. She was never part of the mystery. Yet, she magically went back in time to help Battler solve it. Back in EP3 she came out of nowhere.

I think in the "obvious troll meant to distract you" sense. She comes in looking like a hoity-toity Mary Sue jerkass who breaks all the rules and turns the story to crap.

Well... maybe that's part of the plan? After all, the line between a very good writer and a very bad one can be quite thin at times. But we've seen four episodes of very good writing so far... so it seems unlikely that an amateurish twist like this would be REAL.

Why would he do that? He did that in Higurashi because Rika was a character there, and it was obvious she knew something the others didn't from almost the beginning.

And you've just noticed this? The narrative in Umineko is rubbish. There are very few things you can trust. That's the way you roll in this game.

And the Erika hate is getting riddiculous. And didn't Ryukishi mention that the gameboard will now be filled with meaningless scribbling from LD, Bern and (maybe Beato and Battler in their previous fights)

There must be some reason that people who have "penetrated to the core of the mystery" will be able to glean from all of it while others are distracted. He said so himself. I don't know what it is yet, of course.
