Short, sweet?
My apologies if there's another thread like this already, but I'm looking for something to watch.
Name an unlicensed anime series that: 1) Has no filler episodes. 2) Doesn't do any "sweatdropping" or anime-esque crying. 3) Does not involve anyone accidentally falling over each other as a romantic setup. 4) Has an at least halfway-solid plot. 5) Has at least halfway-solid character development. 6) Does not "shorthand" draw the characters (you know, when anime artists suddenly draw the characters as tiny little crude dolls with faces, often for comic effect). 7) Is genuinely well made. 8) Is not made up of more than thirty episodes. Please name licensed ones as well, but if you do, do label them as "licensed". Goes off thinking that maybe my standards were a bit too stringent? |

I'll second "Gunslinger Girl". Best series known to man. "Narutaru" would fit the bill, too. And "Now and Then, Here and There" (licensed) both very good comentaries on human nature. |

Is there a particular genre your lookign for? There are plenty of good series that fit the bill, but it would help if you could be a little more specific.
Are you looking for Romance? Action? Mecha? Fanservice/Ecchi? Historical? Slice of Life? Comedy? Several good suggestions are already mentioned but I will throw a few out; Shingetsutan Tsukihime is excellent, good story, good characters, great music, and a good plot/storyline, its dark, and is a dramatic horror/romance series. Peacemaker Kurogane- historical drama/action/comedy. Another good series, very well done characters, good story, and interesting blend of elements. There are a few arm-flapping and white eyed scenes with the main character, but the series as a while is pretty serious. Kimi ga Nozumo Eien- heavy romantic drama, no SD scenes, realistically drawn and stays that way. Very realistic, and very heavy emotionally. Gantz- sci fi series, lots of X-Files style dark myster/sci fi plotline, series is currently being realeased. Very realisitc, no SD, no arm flapping, plot is still being revealed, but looks good so far. Monster- dark mystery/horror series, very realistic, no SD. Like Gantz, its currently being released, looks very cool so far. Last Exile- Absolutley gorgeous animation, plot is good, but not spectacular, but the overall quality and attention to detail is fantastic. It is liscensed, and they are taking their sweet time between releases, but its a great show. Those are a few just off the top of my head. |
