Well, it looks like Damiya is indeed the evil mastermind behind those guys with the helmets and the egg thieves and the attack on the queen's ship. I still say he's not a very smart evil mastermind, given that he put himself in danger, but that's neither here nor there. He did a lot of talking in this episode, so I'm guessing he explained at least some of what his game is. I could pick out the names of Seimiya, Shunan and Erin, but that was about it.

We also find out more about Kirik's background and how he got started working for Damiya. At the end of the episode, though, it looked like he wouldn't be working for Damiya any more.

And then there's Ial, who seems to have been poisoned by Damiya and Kirik, just before he got into a fight with the helmet guys. He smashed Kirik's helmet and discovered Kirik's role in the plot, and it was during their conversation that Kirik broke down.

And then...

It looks like the next episode picks up right where this one ended, because Ial is still stumbling around, poisoned and injured... and gee, look where he ends up collapsing? Right outside the shed where Erin is looking after the beast-lord family. Hmmmmm...

In this ep it's implied that Damiya had a hand in making sure that the Saigamul would have the Touda that they used to attack the queen. It's not clear if any of the attackers back then were infiltrators that were working for Damiya, or indeed if he knew that the Saigamul would attack at that time. If he didn't know, it would explain why he was in a dangerous spot, and why Kirik rushed down the mountain towards the attack. Even if some of the Saigamul back then were infiltrators working for Damiya (like Kirik is), they couldn't exactly have gone easy on him, since that would reveal that they had ties to him. We also know for a fact that Damiya tried to poison the queen, so it would be strange for him to adopt such a different tactic now..
On the other hand, Damiya was the one who suggested the boat trip, so it may be true that he did in fact directly insitgate the attack. But that would have put him in mortal danger, so I don't think that's the case..

A bigger issue with the plot, like I posted a while back, is that Damiya stands to gain absolutely nothing from inciting and helping the Saigamul. He could have just killed the queen and married Semiya. By fueling the Saigamul, he just inherits a broken kingdom; it gains him nothing. It nearly killed him on that boat, but Erin came out of nowhere and saved him. And now he would have her save him again by using Lilan against Shunan's army. What exactly would he have done if Erin hadn't shown up? He didn't even know she existed when he set the plan in motion..

Also, again, Ial's silence is stupefying.. He knows everything and is in a postion to act, but does not. In ep 45 we learn that he was seeking evidence to prove that the touda in the attack weren't the duke's.. But when he gets it, again he does nothing? Other than allow himself to be poisoned, that is.. Yes he's trained for obedience, but surely his training must have included "how to show the smallest bit of initiative when necessary"?
And there's still the fact that Shunan's proposed standoff is pretty out-of-the-blue.. But like someone said, he's a military man who thinks in military terms, and his purpose is to convince Semiya, so this is the least of the issues, really.

With all the plot issues, the show works beautifully on an emotional level, and the biggest tragedy is that this thread has about as many views and replies as the KissxSis thread That is all.

So Damiyah is the mastermind behind it all after all. He was the one that gathered the eggs, organized the attack (and may or may not have poisoned the old queen when that didn't work, I'm inclined to say he didn't but would've tried something else sooner or later). Kirik is taking too long to turn to the light side but after that verbal beat down I think it's imminent. And speaking of that verbal breakdown, Lalu gets points for saying almost nothing for the first half of the series and then saying the exact right things this episode. And now it makes sense why he hasn't said anything about the attack yet, he was having it researched secretly and he's got the right to not trust anyone in the palace now, if he had talked he would've gotten offed off (well, attempted offed, some now deleted spoilers were in my head the entire episode) earlier.

Okay Erin, STAY NEAR THE BEAST LORDS NOW. Or for the next episode or two, preferably while Lalu is getting medical help, staying near three beast lords is the best protection anyone is going to have for the rest of this series at this rate.

Holy crap we have only five episodes left, bets on how many more plot twists will be pulled? Methinks at least three, maybe six or seven....

Basically a character development episode. On the plot side, we just got Ia-lu stumbling to Erin's place with the Oujo in order to get some medical treatment. Kirik was able to track Ia-lu. but decided not to report him to Damiyah, who managed to track Ia-lu up to Lazalm any way, but he wasn't able to find him in the end. Erin and Ia-lu decide to find a way to tell Queen Semiyah the truth about Damiyah.

However, the strong point of this episode was in Erin's and Ia-lu relationship development. And oh boy, was there a strong development here.

Care to elaborate? That was the part I couldn't make out.

What I did notice was...

...that the relationship between Erin and Lilan seems to have recovered from the mute-whistle/biting-fingers-off incident. Not only does Lilan let Erin come near her and the baby, but she also lets Ial into her pen and is willing to hide him.

I also thought it was funny that even the baby growls at Damiya now...

Erin says that the Ohju's don't fear Ialu because Erin doesn't, they pick up really strongly on human emotion. So Lilian probably was in a rage during the mute whistle/finger part and once she calmed down she accepted Erin again. So Dog Whisper tactics, stand your ground, show no fear, and because the Ohju don't associate Erin with the mute whistle, they will listen to her lyre.
But enough about that, I was squeeing the whole time about Ialu and then Erin falling asleep against each other and then Iala giving her an awkward hug in the end. AW.

This question isn't specific to any episode, but why does Erin and Ial refuse to tell Damiya about the truth behind the Ohju? Is there something to lose? Even if he ignores the warning, at least they tried.

Dude, Erin has got some serious cojones. Well, not literally, but you get the idea. She basically managed to bluff Damiya and the others into thinking she's got magical powers. I can't help wondering, though, how she knew that a beast-lord she'd never met before would respond to her and not to the chief of the beast-lord center. Maybe she just figured that if her plan didn't work, she'd be killed and Damiya wouldn't get his beast-lord army anyway.

I'm also not sure why the episode went back to Ake village after all this time. Maybe they still have a role to play in the final episodes.

I've got the unsubbed Episode 47, but I haven't watched it yet. More later.

It's how the Ohjus would never trust someone they only have bad memories of, especially since this was the man who had used the silent whistle on them their entire life. Plus Erin had a confidence they didn't which intimidated them as well, so dog whisper psychology.

Yeah, that makes sense, but then...

In Episode 44, Erin says that she and Lilan aren't friends any more, but as I pointed out before, in Episode 46 Lilan is still willing to let Erin near her and the baby, and is even willing to hide Ial. So the mute whistle isn't necessarily an automatic "I hate you forever" device. The good memories that Lilan has of Erin still have some lasting effects.

Erin only used the whistle once on Lilian, these Ohju have been subjected to it on almost a daily basis for their entire lives. That's a lot harder to work around and undo.

With some help from the comedy-relief duo, Erin sneaks Lilan out of the shed to do a little flying. Before they can take off, Nason drops by for a little pointless conversation. Okay, maybe it wasn't pointless, but it certainly didn't persuade Erin to turn around and take Lilan home.

And where is Erin going? To see Seimiya, who has slipped off to a private royal hot spring of some sort. How did Erin know where it was? Beats the heck out of me. Maybe Ial told her.

Anyway, it looks like Erin told Seimiya everything - the story of Queen Je, where the rules for handling beast-lords came from, and what Damiya has been up to. It looks like Seimiya believes it all, too, although I'm not sure why she would. Maybe having Lilan sitting there all the time gave Erin enough credibility.

Oh, and bonus points to Seimiya for standing there in her bare feet all that time, during a snow storm. Yikes.

It looks like the fur will start flying in Episode 48, as all the major players gather for the big smackdown.

More than Lilan it's simply because Seimiya has a brain and you don't need to be Horacio Cain to understand that Damiya is the bad guy

Seimiya has had to come to that conclusion Shunan story, Erin story and the fact that Harumiya didn't like Damiya.

Looks like the battle will be this week and that Seimiya won't be using the Ohju after all. I think the combination of her Grandmother's will and learning that her uncle betrayed her Grandmother just pushed her into shock and decided to make different choice.
