Anime suggestions...
I'm looking for a couple different types of anime:
Magical: like Negima and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Basically looking for an anime where the main character has magical abilities (or doesnt, but is trying), strives his/her hardest to become better. Romantic Comedy: like Mahoraba, Narue no Sekai, or Ai Yori Aoshi Something light hearted, some comedy (but nothing too over the top, something like Midori no hibi might be ok, but anything too much more might be too much), and hopefully one that ends with an actual resolution in the relationship. |

child protagonists learning magical abilities Gakuen Alice Mahou Shoujo Tai Arusu young adult protagonists becoming magical practitioners Somedays' Dreamers Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora The last of these is currently being subbed; the rest are licensed. I'm sure there are more, especially in the younger "mahou shoujo" category like Nanoha. You might also consider Juuni Kokki if you've never seen it. It doesn't quite fit your model, but it has both magic and strong character development. A couple of other close matches might be Angelic Layer (pre-teen heroine) and Claymore (young adult heroine). All of these have female protagonists. The closest show I can think of where a boy is the central character is Hikaru no Go. In the early going Hikaru is inspired to learn Go because of a magical event, but his growth as a Go player eventually depends on his own, human abilities. All of these are licensed. For your romance request, I'd try REC. Also Crest/Banner of the Stars and Noein are both sci-fi romances, but neither is as light-hearted as Narue. (For instance, both these series involve ongoing wars, and the romance in both takes a back seat to the plot.) Of these, REC is unlicensed.

I'll throw in a second for 'most all of SeijiSensei's suggestions. (excepting Claymore and Hikaru which I didn't like so much)
For a girl with magical powers, take a look at Kamichu!--a great anime about a girl who suddenly finds that she's become a shinto deity. (kami) Much of the series thereafter follows (in a slice-of-life fashion) her struggles to become a good little kami-sama, while juggling her life as a student and growing up. (as a kami at least... I'm not exactly sure she will grow up, being something of a goddess and all--the show doesn't address such tedious concerns ) |

Thanks for the replies so far.
I've seen Somedays Dreamers, I'm getting Natsu no Sora, I've seen Hikaru no Go (twice), REC, Kamichu!, and Angelic Layer. I'll take a look at the others. My favorites in the Magic category (listed so far) would have to be Kamichu! and Angelic Layer. I'm looking for something a little more like Nanoha or Angelic Layer, but it doesn't have to be young characters. As for the romance, I do want something more light hearted, and mostly about the main characters. |

Heh, magic-wise, very few shows even comes close to be somewhat similar to MSLN - it's shounen yet magical. You might want to try Nanatsuiro Drops but it doesn't have even close the amount of action that MSLN has. For romantic comedy, I'll recommend one of the best anime this/last season, Itazura na Kiss.

I'm not sure WHR fits exactly with what I'm looking for but it was indeed a good show I've also seen both Onegai shows
