Full moon wo Sagashite - Has many fillers (which are enjoyable), and is not really sad to begin with but as the story goes on till the last 10 chapters, it starts to become a tearjerker. Music is really good but repetitive but it comes to good use to establish moods. The last episode made me cry like hell, it was good but so sad! 52 episodes.

Theese gets my tears going:
Naruto: -at the Third's funeral -when Zabuza and haku dies next to oneanother. Love Hina: Christmas episode and Love Hina Again 3. episode Ai Yori Aoshi: christmas episode and some here and there. (Aoi the cutest and the most perfect Girl in any anime series i have ever seen. marry me? ) Ichigo 100%: don't know why but some places the tears always comes. Bleach: when Ichigo fights against the Hollow that killed his mother (Hollow code name: Groundo Fisher) Dragonball Z: -when Son Goku sacrifices himself to kill Raddits (Gokus brother) -When Vegeta cries and tells his life story on Namek and then Freeza kills him. -When Son Goku sacrifices himselv by teleporting himself and Cell to King Kai's planet right before Cell Explodes. Black Cat: -when Creed tries to kill Saya, and Saya lais in Rains lap watching the fireworks, then she dies. Grave of the Fireflies man what a sad story... my heart blead Wolf's Rain: I think i Cried everytime some of the good guy's died. specially at the end. (the OVA episodes) Kanon: when someone of the girls died or dissappeard, man some tears really came out... Air: the 2-3 last episodes.... watch it and you'll understand and many many more. I think Anime / Manga require one to cry sometimes. it makes the whole experience better =)

I know this will sound weird but an anime that made me cry was This Ugly and Beautiful World.
This is mainly due to: Spoiler for This Ugly and Beautiful World:
The message and theme it conveys made me emotional also as the title suggests, it talks about the beauties and ugliness of this world and how one must appreciate the world that we live in and should take some time to enjoy it because any time it might be gone from us and this was conveyed very well near the end. The butterfly symbolism was beautiful and because i am such a nature lover it made me cry to understand the message that Gainex created from this anime. |

Air and Air the Movie -drama/movie has romance as well
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien -romance/drama ...you could try Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu (Sky of Iriya, Summer of UFO) if you liked Saikano (imo this is quite a lot better than Saikano) - romance/drama/SciFi

Figure 17 - Tsubasa & Hikaru is a series that could easily lead to teary eyes. Be aware that the series is a slice of life genre, plus a little mixture of action and sci-fi. Licensed.
Shinigami no Ballad is a short 6 episodes series. It depicts various situations in which death is involved, by different point of views. This is because the main character is a shinigami (a god of death). I also second (or third) "Kimi ga Nozomu Eien" and "Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora".

Ai Yawaza's Paradise Kiss and NaNa. I appreciate the emotional honesty of her work, in that the characters and the situtations are plausible and don't feel contrived.
Rurouni Kenshin TV, the Kyoto Story Arc with the Kenshin versus Saito fight and the Karou/Kenshin storyline (around episodes 28-35). His and Her Circumstances. If you can get past some of the low production values, there is a good story to be told. The manga will finish the series, that the anime left hanging. Also, I would vote for other viewers' choices: Air, Kanon, Asatte no Houkou, and Honey & Clover. |

Surprising no one has mentioned Fate/Stay Night yet. It's one of the most depressing anime I have come across.
Of course, it's not any particular episode that's sad but rather how the element of romance and love between Saber and Shirou is developed throughout the whole series. And I heard Tsukihime is pretty much a tear-jerker too? But after the depression I suffered when Fate ended, I'm staying away from the Type-Moon productions for now. |

Retarded, not depressing... I stopped watching it at episode 20-something after sitting through 10 minute straight dialogue-only argument between Saber and Shiro that was about absolutely nothing. They were all angry and teary and couldn't be together and I had no idea why, and worste of all I didn't care.

for me wolf's rain was one of the few anime that actually made me cry. the end is just so sad. i wont' say anything because it'll spoil just about the entire show but if you get ever get a chance, watch it. it has a few good songs too (yoko kanno).
