Loved the first episode, although the fact that the main character pilots a giant robot inside an even bigger giant robot reminded me of that Xzibit meme. This has the potential to be the best Bones show since Star Driver. Which was from the same writer and director, of course.

I just finished the first episode. That engine expand sequence was amazing. Thank you Bones <3

That. Was. Awesome.
It's been a long time since an episode would excite me like that. Mikakunin de Shinkoukei came close, but was a more laid back experience due to the nature of the story. I hope this keeps up. And of course, THAT expansion sequence. |

Pacing felt really rushed in the first episode. TOO MANY CHARACTERS RAWR!!! Almost felt like I was watching a Recap. There was easily enough for 2-3 episodes of content, but making people wait 3 episodes to see mecha action might not be such a good idea.
I'm also kind of confused by the alien faction. They seem to employ human mechanics or at least they look human. I'm also guessing each of the 4 main characters will pilot a separate part of the giant robot, otherwise it really makes no sense for them to be separate aside from giving us a really awesome combine sequence. The heavy amount of innuendos was also hilarious, like at the top of the tower when Teppei asks if he wants to see something amazing, or when his friend basically invites him to his 'private' villa for a foursome. Also, the mid episode eye catch came at the perfect time: |

First episode was hella slow pace with not much of a hook what so ever. Bloating the episode with flashbacks and seeing MC crawl his way to secret robot facility is not what I exactly consider an exciting debut for show that involves a super giant robot. Star Driver definitely had a better hook than this with Takuto's flamboyance and Tauburn ending the first episode with a bang.
Hopefully, all this build up is worth it and next episode will display some glorious action by Captain Earth.

Hrm. Well, I will echo what the others said regarding the expansion sequence - someone put lots of loving detail into that.
Truth be told I kinda liked the super slow building up of the story and was actually interested in what was going on and who all these people were, etc. Next thing I know he is headed into space. I wondered what happened and if I blinked and missed something. Well, it is only one ep, and the careful story buildup and background was interesting for me, so I guess this goes into the category of non committed but curiousity picqued, which is pretty good for me as regards a mecha series.

As an aside, I actually haven't seen Star Driver, so I go into this anime not expecting whether I'll like it or hate it....
Holy! I quite literally have no idea what was going on! Pretty fast paced for something with a long transformation sequence and judging by the preview, it will stay that way. That being said, I liked it. It kept me solidly entertained from start to finish and of course it looks excellent. I like these kind of shows as long as they more or less make sense by the end (And of course I'd like to care for some of the characters). Also, I couldn't stop laughing anytime the word "Kiltgang" was mentioned. |

Another high school kid with his dad disappeared and follow his father's foot step plot again... Fine I can deal with that.
Daichi: just your typical generic, cliche, average, very normal and boring looking high schooler. Nothing else here to see. Teppei: I want to know more about him and already I think I'll like him more than Daichi. The long black girl: black hair cutie, my type and due to again being a black haired girl, I feel like she will be my favorite character. (Black hair cutie never disappoints!) The pink hair and blue hair antagonist: already starting to like them more than our MC. The mecha: the pink one show influence from Star Driver and the white one merging sequence is <3. I like everything so far but the MC.

^^^Pretty much. I'm all in just for the robot because Captain Earth probably the most manly looking robot I have seen since like Gurren Lagann. Now I just someone could mesh Captain Earth's combination sequence with the audio from GaoGaiGar's Final Fusion. >: C

This was really more Eureka Seven (right down to the sweater) than Star Driver so far. It's true this is the "Star Driver team" but both of them have done much more than just Star Driver in their careers.
Was Daichi fairly traditional so far? Sure - the whole show is boilerplate BONES so far - but I kind if liked him, perhaps because Miyu Irino (how TV anime has missed him in lead roles) is so adept at finding the decency and vulnerability of his characters. If there's any series I don't love so much that this put me in mind of it's not SD but Guilty Crown - a show which likewise delivered a ridiculously good-looking premiere with creepy-pretty music. I'm not saying CE is going down that road, but there was just a whiff of it in the air for me.

The way they handled the first episode was fairly typical for mecha series. But the visuals, animation and the design were fantastic, what a treat.
Also I keep expecting Teppei to be a girl, has anime corrupted my mind thinking that guys can no longer be childhood friends?

It is reminiscent of Star Driver, isn't it? Including the confusing setting. I hope this time it clears up...
It already went through the gate of water, air and earth. They just need a fourth satellite. And to give up on Heart. Libido-powered magic is old news, but are libido-powered mechs the new "in" thing? What with Daimidaler. If Japan ever gets around to making real mechs, I'm worried that they'll fill them with horny high school students. Especially since Fukushima kinda ruled out nuclear power. The combination sequence looked amazing, but I couldn't help but think "whoa, they sure like complicated launch sequences". Also, how low are those satellites? Because he reached them in roughly a minute. |
