After seeing the first episode... yes, the over-the-top madness is back. Definitely can't wait for the next episode.
The only problem is that I find Dio to be more annoying than truly powerful/evil, especially after watching Battle Tendency

I'm praying the ending is still "Roundabout" .
I really liked the kinda thematic direction the premiere had, from the opening and introduction to Jotaro to the ending with Dio. I thought the animation was really great, very evident of the likely much higher budget David Productions has compared to Parts 1 and 2, and the traditional Jojo flair and the animation for the Stands were quite nice . Our new Jojo for part 3, Jotaro Kujo, certainly has shades of the Joestar honor in him, though with a bit of an attitude and quite a mouth. I really have to wonder how his relationship with his mother changed from what was shown in the flashbacks to how abrasive he is to her in the present . It was a little shocking to see how much Jotaro resembled Jonathan in his youth, I think even more than Joseph. Maybe that resemblance will be what leads to Dio singling him out of all of Jonathan's remaining descendants ? So we're moving away from manipulating ripples to psychic powers that manifest humanoid guardian spirits? Okay, sure . Joseph is still Joseph. I'm going to miss Sugita but Unshou Ishizuka is a pretty awesome Old Joseph so it all works out . And Holly is certainly her parents' child . Poor Jonathan though... thank goodness Erina passed away before she could know about this .

As expected, great episode. Opening is nice and full of references as well.
On a side note, after watching the episode I decided to watch OVA's fight with Kakyoin for comparision. It's... kinda confusing. While new series looks much better in terms of action and music, I found certain elements to better in OVA. For example, OVA's version of Jotaro's speech about evil is much more impressive. Also, I wonder how long will it last? Right now, it's kinda obvious that it's gonna be be way more than 24 epiodes, so either we will have 48 episodes, or JoJo became a long-running series. |
