They responded!

*facepalm forever*

THIS DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE. And that poor other twitter user has been suckered into thinking the manga is close to the book...

I'm this close to unlocking my twitter to have a go at them... (maybe I'll just make a new account.)

This is a masterpiece... Oh Vertical, you're not doing yourself or the series any favours at all...

I'm so screencapping this for posterity...

It's just ridiculous, I mean pacing? The book is even slower than the anime (by virtue of being, well, a novel! the anime has cut a lot of stuff as it is). And yes, the novel is less "subdued" but not because it's chock-full of hot, uncensored yuri action.

I've done it already:

Even followed up someone else's post on Tumblr about it.

Seriously just sell it for what it is an ecchi manga, there is definitely an audience for that (as much as I hate to admit it)

Don't try to lie and say this is the equivalent of the novel which clearly is aimed at a completely different audience.

Now I'm curious how far they read before licensing it...

I'm more curious about whoever's in charge of their twitter account and his/her ability to comprehend questions and answers at this point.

Perhaps it's some hapless intern.

"Jack, people are talking about Shinsekai yori, write something about it!"
"But I haven't seen the anime or read the manga!"
"Whatever, just write something!"
*some hours later*
"oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit..."

That sounds really possible. Either way Vertical's doing a good job crapping on themselves.

I am pretty sure Ed who is one of the main people at Vertical runs the twitter account. I guess more than one person could use it.

The Twitter messages from Vertical are hilarious. What do they think is going to happen when some of the people they told those inaccurate things to actually read the manga?

They'll think the original novel is porn...

Well it's a tastefully written porn, as Satoru is an impersonation of author, and result of his desire to put his dick somewhere. (preferably in 12.)

9-12 in english are out...

I must admit, while I still hate the yori scenes, but other than that?

The mangaka is doing a really great job in some other parts. For once, we're actually seeing things from other characters POV! And some of the characters, like Maria, gets more personality and development.

Also I read chapters 13 and 14 and I see that the romance between Saki and Satoru will get more development as well (YAY!).

What do you think?

"Other than that" the problem is that the characters are completely different from how they're supposed to be, the relationships are completely different, the character development is completely different, and the story is also completely different. The mangaka is pulling things out of his ass. So what's the point? This is not Shinsekai yori, this is some knock off that uses the names and some story & world elements. If someone enjoys the manga that's cool for them, but I don't see how it improves on anything at all.

(And to just THINK that a SSY manga could've been a great companion to the anime, fleshing out things that the show didn't have time to tackle, etc. But no, they had to commission this... thing... instead.)

I disagree.

I mean, you're right. The characters are different but the story?!

If you've read chapters 13 and 14 you'll see it's now on the same track as the novel/anime.
