I'll endorse this OP, too:

Kibou ni Tsuite - AKB0048 OP

The integration between music and visuals in this show was often top-notch. The transition between numbers during the concert in episode one matched as the scene changed from the performance to the battle. The song choices were very appropriate to the story line as well.

I was a bit surprised as unlike previous years when a few series took all the votes, it seems spread out all over the places this year...
gonna be a pain if i want to count later

Anyway here is mine, honestly i think it was quite close for me this year as none really stand out or all are enjoyable. And good job Youtube, comparing to 3 previous years, it's never getting this hard to find a version of OP/ED

The three favourite OP are:
1) Joshiraku OP [The Next Person is Ready... So!]
Not so fancy but it perfectly set up the anime mood everytime
2) Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Lite OP [Kimi e]
If your eyes hurt, you got the wrong song.... But yeah totally unfit with the series, but the song and the animation is just incredibly. They should pick this one for the main series instead
3) Nisemonogatari OP 2 [Platinum Disco]
Can't find it on youtube, but to sum it up..... Moe Imouto. Enough said
Spoiler for Youtube links:

By chances, all of my three favourite SD involve chibi dancing
1) Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Lite ED [Sparkling Daydream]
The level of moe in this one is simply unbelievable. Second to none for the history of anime in my book.... Watch it!!
2) Joshiraku ED [100 Famous Views on Japan's Smiles]
Can't find the youtube link for this, but instantly cheer me up everytime
3) Baby, Please Kill Me! ED [Futari no Kimochi no Honto no Himitsu]
The Ed almost got a wave of meme, and hilarious to watch
Spoiler for Youtube link:

PS: special mention to Shinsekai Yori ed , a really good song and should have took 3rd place spot when i think about it. And there's also Black Rock Shooter OP, Binbougami ga! ED, Hyouka OP.

Smh @ the lack of mentions for JoJos ED, the way it was segwayed in Episode 6 was just godlike.

The problem is that Warner takes out every vids they can find. Only totoum mentioned it and I was so hasty in my posting that I forgot to mention it.

And yeah, I agree about that part. What JoJo lacks in budget, it makes it up with good direction which gives us those smooth transitions to the ED. And those leaves the fans hanging and wanting more. You hear the first chords of the ED, and you know it IS over, and it is a crime because you want MORE.

I do not usually pay much attention to op/ed, but this year, to me, Guilty Crown musically speaking really has been something else, and so EGOIST.

Despite how GC went the OP and the EDs are all consistent with many references to the plot, well mixed together with the cast, and with the music!
The ED sure is less artistic visually speaking, same goes for Psycho Pass, but both songs are also amazing in their own ways.
For Tari Tari, well, the song expresses so well the cheerful parts of the show. Or maybe its jsut me, because it reminds me of Sawa and Konatsu fun and cuteness

OP
1) Guilty Crown, Opening Theme 2, The Everlasting (EGOIST)
Spoiler for video:
2) Guilty Crown, Opening Theme 1, My Dearest (Supercell)
Spoiler for video:

3) Tari Tari, opening Theme 1, Dreamer (Airi)
Spoiler for video:

ED
Couldn't find the Tv version.
1) Guilty Crown, Ending Theme 1, The Everlasting (EGOIST)
Spoiler for video:

2) Pshycho Pass, Ending Theme 1, Namae no nai Kaibutsu (EGOIST)
Spoiler for video:

And yes, I'm starting to be a bit addicted to Namae no nai Kaibutsu

The only two op that has really stuck out to me so far this year was :

Kuroko no basuke : Can Do
Another : kyomu Densen

Honestly there really hasn't been a ED that has stuck out to me this season, not sure why.

There were a lot of songs that I liked for 2012. Especially opening songs. Choosing which songs to add to a personal Top 3 was difficult.

OP
  1. fate/zero 2: [to the beginning]
  2. Dog Days': [FEARLESS HERO]

  • Little Busters!: [Little Busters! ~TV animation ver.~]

  • Ano Natsu de Matteru: [sign]

ED
  1. Ano Natsu de Matteru: [Vidro Moyou]

So many good ones, hard to pick:

I really like the Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun Opening. It's so lighthearted and fun.

Happy Happy Girl is similarly uplifting. Opening for Papa no Iukoto o Kikinasai!

The Opening for Mysterious Girlfriend X was also pretty good. Rarely do you see such a "chastely sensual" style anymore, perfectly fit the mood of the anime. I'll never see lemons the same way again.

The Opening for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure also perfectly fits the anime. It's old school. You never hear anything so manly any more. (Almost as manly as the nostalgic throwback down at the bottom).

Both the opening and ending for Kamisama Hajimemashita are hauntingly beautiful. I think I tend to prefer the opening because of the lyrics, but the ending is also good.

If I were to pick on artistry I'd pick Mysterious Girlfriend X, or maybe Jojo. For pure beauty of the song I'd have to go with either the opening or ending of Kamisama Hajimemashita.

But the best opening and ending of the year has to be the Opening from Kill Me Baby. If only the show had been half as awesome as the opening. You know an opening is good when you realize around episode 6 that you don't really enjoy the show and you're just watching it for the opening. The ending was only half as cool as the opening, but still funnier than the show.

Spoiler for Oh the nostalgia:

Been thinking about this subject for a while now....

When I evaluate OP or ED I look at not only whether I enjoy the song, but also how much I look forward to it as part of the episode (and series as a whole) and also how well it harmonizes with the video portion proper.

With all that in mind, curiously there were much fewer OPs I enjoyed this year than EDs. And yet, the piece of music I thought was the most effective and enjoyable for me in all ways, shapes and forms was the background music for the Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate Preview!

Here it is: "Jewelry Time" by Ceui.

OP

1. Without doubt it would have to be Hyouka OP 1: Yasashiya no Riyuu.

2. Yep - as others have mentioned Sukitte Ii nayo's Friendship.

3. Finally, Sakamichi no Apollon's moving and beautiful Sakamichi no Melody.

----

Honorable Mentions:

Amagami SS Plus' Check My Soul.

Shirokuma Cafe's Boku no Invitation.

Rinne no Lagrange's Try Unite.

Finally, Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai Lite's Kimi e. Lovely.

****

ED

1. Natsume Yuuchinjou Shi's Takaromono.

2. Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita's absolutely brilliant Yume no naka no Watashi no Yume.

3. Natsuyuki Rendezvous' Anata ni Deawa Nakereba ~Natsuyuki Fuyuhana~.

----

Honorable Mentions:

Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xskYMn8RPpg.

Mouretsu Space Pirates Lost Child.

Accel World's Unfinished.

Furusato Saisei Nippon no Mukashi Banashi's "Arukou". (Very difficult to find a link on this one.)

Joshiraku's Nippon Egao Hyakkei.

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate's Kaze no Naka no Primrose.

Tasogare Otome x Amnesia's Karandorie.

Dog Days Dash Natsu no Yakusoku.

OP's

1.) To Love Ru Darkness - Rakuen PROJECT

2.) Phi Brain - Now or Never

^^I liked the songs. Speaking of which, Campione's Brave Blade OP would've been my absolute favorite if the opening portion of the song was the chorus used as well. But sadly, it's not.

As for ED's, only one that really comes to mind at the moment:

Naruto SD Rock Lee no Seishun Full-Power Ninden - Daijoubu Bokura

This one was funny, cute, upbeat, and even a little epic with a nice song to go with it.

OP:

1. Furusato Saisei Nihon no Mukashi Banashi - OP

Unfortunately, I can't find the opening itself. A clourful paperplane flies through the seasons. It's beautiful. The song is both spritely and calming. A picture book opening for an animated picturebook.

2. Mouretsu Pirates - OP

Fast paced with lots of changes in the mood reflected both in the song and animation. The perfect set up for a light space opera adventure.

3. Nisemonogatari - Platinum Disco

Probably the best thing about the show, and a perfect reflection of the projected image of the character in question.

***

ED:

1. Joshiraku - ED

Perfect reflection of the show, with the scenery and rakugo meshups. Ending deliberately with everyone laughing and happy is a nice touch.

2. Tasogare Otome X Amnesia - ED

I love the way they go over the top with the colours, here, and also that they have the main character sing the song. It reflects the way the show sometimes feels like a stage play. The song's haunting and longing mood fits the show perfectly.

3. Kill Me Baby - ED

Like the show: silly, played straight. That dance is an instant classic (there's people actually "dancing" it on youtube...).

ED: Duty Friend, from Lupin III: Mine Fujiko to iu onna

Because there should be more community involvement like this, I'm not linking the actual ED, but rather a cover of it.

My criteria are a combination of visuals, music, and relation to the show in question.

Overall this was kind of a weak year in terms of openings/endings for me. I had a hard time finding three for each (and failed where the openings are concerned, haha).

OP
1. Hyouka - "Yasashiya no Riyuu" by Chouchou
2. Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita - "Real World" by nano.Ripe

ED
1. Shin Sekai Yori - "Wareta Ringo" by Risa Taneda
2. Fate/Zero - "Sora wa Takaku Kaze wa Utau" by Luna Haruna
3. Psycho-Pass - "Namae no nai Kaibutsu" by Egoist
