Oblivion (April 2013)
Directed by Joseph Kosinski ('Tron: Legacy', or if you didn't like the film then he also wrote and directed the 'Gears of War' commercial "Mad World"), 'Oblivion' is an original sci-fi film (adapted from Joseph Kosinski's comic of the same name) about a repairman on a post-apocalyptic Earth (brought about by an alien invasion?). Tasked with repairing drones (whose purpose is to collect vital information left on Earth after an exodus), Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) slowly discovers secrets about his life (and the world) that puts the future of humanity in his hands. |

I don't know....I'm kind of sick of Tom Cruise, I can't watch & respect a man who in real life worships scientology.
Plus this is just another movie for Tom to run away from his gay thoughts....

I'm going against popular opinion and state out loud that I don't give two hoots about Scientology.
I've always enjoyed Cruise's movies, and I see nothing from what's been parceled out so far to deter me from eagerly anticipating this next movie of his.

I get that it was a joke, I just like that family guy scene and just not a fan of Tom cruise. Stop taking your hate of family guy out on me just because you clearly worship Futurama (even though it is excellent)

I love Tom cruise the actor, but i hate Tom cruise the man with a passion. I remember years ago he was doing an austrailian interview and the guy asked him about his relationship with katie holmes and Tom became so angry he threatened to end the interview right away!, then the week after he was proclaiming his love for her on Oprah jumping up and down on the chair....yeah i really hate him.
Apart from that the movie was great i just seen it lol

The soundtrack is one of the reasons why I want to watch the movie. The reviewers don't speak that highly of it, and the posters and the trailer don't really make me wanna watch it that bad. But if the visuals and the OST are good then yeah, I can sit through it I guess.

It was good. Nothing really to write home about (the music and cinematography were the best features, then the very nice CGI work). I think I appreciated the film more than I liked it. This was a very competent and well designed "mature" sci-fi drama. I say mature because the film treats its audience like they are intelligent individuals that can appreciate a more character-based sci-fi drama rather than a simple blow-'em-up.
Very simple story with some decent character beats, even if everything felt a little rote, cliche, and too simplistic at times. Still, I vastly prefer even this underwhelming sci-fi film to soulless extravaganza sci-fi films like the Transformers series and that particular ilk of the genre. True, there could have been a far more compelling storyline involved, but what we have is almost elegant in its simplicity and design. It's hard to actually like Oblivion, but it is even harder to dislike the film. 70/100. |

Unlike some others, I don't expect an art house film out of everything I watch.
I give it a 90/100. For big-budget hollywood sci-fi films, I can't think of anything better in the last few years. Tom Cruise, due to numerous reasons, is probably one of the most under-rated Hollywood (again, emphasis on Hollywood) actors of his time, and I think he delivered another fine performance.

Hey, All! First post here.
Saw the film on opening night in IMAX (my first time seeing a feature-length film in that format). My biggest problem was that of my eyeballs drying out, because I only blinked about once every three minutes! Certainly the most beautifully-designed Science Fiction film I've yet seen. Of course, now I have to see it again on a digitally-projected IMAX, because our theater used 70mm film, and the image was a bit on the blurry side. But the GRANDEUR certainly came through on that first viewing! |

this was actually a pretty good movie. i was happy with it. the twists weren't something i saw coming, and Olga Kurylenko was beautiful in the movie. not to mention Oblivion is in my top 25 most played songs on iTunes.
