Then let's stop with the "couple comparison" shall we? It's better to discuss about the anime itself.

Maybe we'll get really lucky and the romance will actually be their club helping the sensei finally find her one true love?

To quote 8-man: "Someone marry her already!"

Anyway, in teenage rom-com like this, it's really hard to imagine 8-man going out with Shizuka unless the story already aim for it from the start like Onegai Teacher and Unbalance x Unbalance. Still, I would love to be surprised .

It's hard to imagine Hachiman going out with anyone at this rate.

I rewatched the episode, and I really feel for Hachiman with the Hikigaya Germ stuff going on in his childhood. Though it actually happened to me in a later period than probably with Hachiman, that is, about Grade 5-6. Caused me a lot of trust issues in Secondary 1-2. I guess the fact that I changed schools between Grade 6 and S1 (Grade 7 in HK education system terms) didn't help.

I have to admit that it wasn't totally unwarranted, due to a bad habit I had of nose-picking, but the way they teased me anyways even led to me conferring with a counselor for a few times. I wouldn't be surprised if this wwas another factor for Hikki's social isolation (no pun intended)

Hachiman has several issues, but the biggest one is in his preference in remaining passive and unwilling to improve the situation. In some way the teacher has done a good thing, in that she forced Hachiman to come in contact with Yukino, so he can talk to someone who doesn't mince her words nor speak any white lies. I just wonder if the author has a romance plot near the end.

OT: You know, talking about the characters in this show just makes me want to read Onani Master Kurosawa again...

Might as well recommend it to everybody here who haven't read it . That manga is truly a gem. If you like the story in SNAFU, you will most likely enjoy Onani Master Kurosawa greatly.

(Okay, enough off-topic-ing)

Anyway, I kinda like the delinquent girl. I hope she will appear more often ^^.

Hachiman isn't passive. He went out of his way to implicitly reject Yui and end their friendship. He's also made plenty of contributions to the Service Club, being the one to solve Yui's case, help convince Saki to stop being truant with part-time jobs, and solve the conflict in Hayato's clique.

He's more of a character who has "seen too much" and actively chooses to avoid having a social life.

Seeing all these, he is like the very first true neutral main character in the anime in the truest sense of the word. All he wants to do is observe and not be part of anything. It makes this anime even better for me. Even when all his wants and fears are revealed, he is still a very intriguing person who seems to have layers and layers to peel. While there are certain experience I relate to, his philosophy is really dark and pessimistic for a high schooler.

Hope Hachiman opens up more to the popular guy. Every protagonist needs a good bro on the side who can punch him when he goes too far.

The popular guy is exactly the kind of person he hates, so it's doubtful that will ever happen.

And you don't think being constantly insulted for no reason could possibly reinforce his low self-esteem and cause him to become even more withdrawn? They've kind of made a joke out of him repeating saying "please don't casually insult me" but now that we're supposed to take his pessimism as a serious dramatic point, it's hard to see Yukino as anything but a misguided villain. Especially since she's taken a backseat role in the solutions to the club's requests, with Hikki coming up with the truly insightful answers that work. More charitably, she needs help just as much as Hikki does.

You're talking about someone who has personally declared to hating nice girls.

No matter how much insults he takes, it's preferable to the kindness that they show.

In other words reinforcing his flaws? I don't see how that's a good thing.

And frankly, Yukino isn't honest. She's clearly enjoying insulting him, far more than what he actually deserves based on what he's shown. Things like calling him a germ and whatnot. It's a little joke, sure, but given his past he takes it seriously. The reason he doesn't like nice girls is because he no longer believes it's possible for anyone to like him, which is directly related to his low self-esteem. It's not a simple matter of "oh, he doesn't like nice girls, therefore he likes mean girls". I mean, he doesn't like Yumiko, certainly, and she's nothing if not a mean girl. Also, when he says he hates nice girls, that doesn't mean he blames them for it. He was pretty apologetic towards Yui. He hates that they exist, not themselves as people.

It's all just one big interconnected worldview he has, and Yukino can't be helping.
