I agree... I'd prefer not to see the latter happen as that would ruin the whole situation.

A really good one chapter, though.

Damn, Zen suddenly powered up. He didn't use the direct force Medaka usually does and actually had to use more defensive techniques to get through, but he came out on top, and with much less injuries so far than Medaka usually has with her gung ho style... of course, now he has to deal with the dude pointing guns at him next chapter. Can't wait to see how he gets out of this. Seems like we get some story about Medaka, too. She seems ticked off that she's not the one fighting... whole Rinnegan thing going and everything. It is nice to see people standing around gaping for someone other than Medaka for once. But given the whole puzzle piece thing and Medaka's current attitude (which may be a result of Perses mode, there's something really wrong with her head that deals with her abnormality.

Great display of strategy & wisdom by Zen, truly enjoyable.

Even before I had the feeling he would fight with the abnormal swordsman. For some reason their faces share a similar look IMO.

Btw, I don't think Medaka will intervene. Her brother is here now to prevent that from happening, and I don't think too Zen would be happy if she got in his way. The display of power he has shown shouldn't surprise us, because we don't even know which class he belongs, only his blood type is known.

Actually, the Chairman declared that he's "Normal" and he's not part of Class 13 at all. However, we've also seen that he semms a bit different than the average Normal, either due to Medaka's influence on his life or his own self-determination (I'm not sure).

His qualities have been hyped through what there's of plot many times (The scene in the gymn as an example, or Nabeshima's high expectations of him). Even an abnormal like Unzen was truly surprised, when just with briefs words, Zen nullified Medaka's Perses mode. As much as the Chairman declares him "normal", if Zen manages to defeat his opponent or at least make him use everything to the point of exhaustion, don't know what the old man is gonna say, but if I were him I would watch my words before making any declarations.

While I still disapprove of the whole battle schtick that the manga has been veering towards lately, Zen looked like a total badass in this chapter. It was funny seeing the other guy whip out big weapon after big weapon and Zen swatting them down like flies.

Zen's abnormal abilities will probably eventually awaken sometime in the manga. I won't be surprised if he eventually becomes an abnormal, and I won't be surprised if he ends up more hardcore than Medaka, though I think that'll have more to do with his ability's power than him having S+ stats in everything like Medaka. XD

Couple of things.

Goods:

• So our dear assassin/killer friend is a total noob when it comes to weapons, as he is not a master in any of the weapons, so he shows no hesitation in just throwing 'em away.
• Medaka's bro said this is a test to see if he's worthy of staying next to Medaka to protect her, as this is the case, there's no way for Medaka to interfere.
• Medaka's bro also denied sending Zen to fight a noob, and since he said the sucker kick is probably the worst possible thing he could've done. I'm hoping the dude's more than just a gunner.
• Funny Medaka mentioned that Zen is even more stubborn than her.
• Also, I keep laughing when the guy pulled out new weapons, totally expected him to pull out a gundam battle suit.
• Nice flashback in the beginning.

Bads:

• Total BS on justifying that long ass stick is an assassination weapon.

All in all, a decent chapter still. So ... Matrix Mode Zen next chapter?

I was hoping for something more. I also hope there's more to it and he's actually someone worth fighting and not some scrub. Nah, that's why I added the part where Medaka asked the samething as you, and her brother said that's not the case, and just said weapons aren't the assassin's speciality. That's all. We just don't know what the assassin dude's true strength yet.

Once again, this is a test for Zen, which means no matter what, he'll probably win, but the dude shouldn't be a push-over.

Sounds like an interesting chapter. Zenkichi having to think on his feet with some of these weapons is a good thing. Munakata has one hell of a hammer space rofl. I guess I can't say I'm surprised. He is an assassin and not a brawler like Takachiho so no wonder he said he couldn't fight Medaka straight up and the principal said he wasn't on that level. Still, he is one of the 13 Party so his abnormal ability to hide all kinds of weapons is still tough for many people I imagine.

Something I don't get, though. Maguro says that abnormals excel at one thing extremely well, but it leaves them crappy at other things. That's not true from what I've seen. Medaka does pretty much everything well. Hard Wrapping not only had his reflexes, but he could fight, too, and was good at sports and stuff. Unzen also seemed to have more than just analytical abilties. So, I'm not sure what Nishio is trying to say here.

And I've come to realize that Zen is Medaka's biggest weakness. Protecting her from negative feelings? No wonder why she's messed up. If she doesn't have some bad stuff happen to her, she'll always be stuck where she is and never really learn or come to understand regular people and their suffering.

Maguro didn't say they're crappy at other things, he only said they have one thing they excel in. So, an abnormal could have something they're really good at to the point it's abnormal, and just be average or even a regular better than average with other things. Hard Wrapping had his reflexes, but he was also smart, too. I don't think he was abnormally smart though. Box (yea, I think that's a good codename for Medaka >_>) has no reflexes, which means she has no learning curve. Even if the difficulty would be Black Diamond or S+ for a normal person, her ability always reduces it to Newb level. And that only applies when it comes to learning a skill.

That's probably one reason why she's always talking about how she's just a normal person. Even though her ability is really haxx, it's still just one ability that doesn't cover everything.

I think Box's always been the way she is. I think the only thing Zen does is keep her from going off the deep end. It would probably be a bad thing if she were always in that Perseus mode, ready to kill anyone in her path. xD

Oh, now that I think about it, was Box's ability stated outright, or were only the mechanics of it explained a little? Hard Wrapping's was definitely pointed out to be his Reflexes, but when he went on to talk about Box's, didn't Zen say he didn't have it exactly right? Bleeeh.

Obviously too early but it shows there is interest and expectations of an anime adaption of Medaka Box eventually, I'm sure stuopidget would cry though if Medaka got an anime before Zaregoto. (still can't believe this hasn't shipped to me yet :\ )
