ok after seeing the final 2 eps, it seems like the animation quality has gotten so much worse than the first season. i had so much expectation for this series but i see nothing but failure on the screen.

Finished ep. 12. so...I guess its intent is to show us that Hiyuu is no longer a loner like he used to be. He was going to say arigato in the end, but they cut it off.....I guess that is why they choose Hanafubuki as the ED. I wonder what was written on the blackboard in the very end, can someone translate it maybe?

They should have ended ep.10 better. Honestly, the two extra episodes aren't bad. It's just that I hope they would conclude it better so that I can watch the last two episodes without too much expectation.

The best part of the episode? Yuri's Ghost. Maybe this means we'll get a Gehouchou series? Maybe? Plz? (course, that'll just piss people off more, I think, because Gehouchou relies on Kenpuuchou for a resolution...)

Also, it was nice to see Sera actually talking and singing, and everyone acting so goofy, but I can't help but think this should have been stuck in the episode after the Kenbu arc instead of being tacked on to the end. I feel it would have been more effective that way, because it would have been the proverbial calm before the storm, y'know?

Spoiler for Alan, in the game:

In the game, Alan appears on Disc 1, which is what season 1 was loosely based around. In that, the whole Kodzuno Tendou/Kidou-shu thing. Yeah.

Alan is a Mexican, who speaks English for some reason, who came to Japan searching for the monster that destroyed his town. The monster he's tracked to Japan is actually a thing created by Fuukaku, the Wind Horn, a leader of the Kidou-shu. (FYI - Fuukaku was also the Kidou-shu member who was in direct command of Magatsu Renji, Daigo's friend)

Alan in the game isn't a bum, although he is a pervert that constantly makes passes at women. He also has no connection to Sera, as Sera is a psychotic wench working for Yagyuu who doesn't show up until Christmas Eve.

Because he joins the party so early (or can join the party so early, no one has to join the party in this game besides the Magami Five), he would indeed be kept up on all the happenings. Of course, in the game, you have all of the Gods by the time you fight Kodzuno Tendou at the end of Disc 1, the whole "WE'RE TOGETHER NOW" isn't really that important in the game. At all.

His "Power" in the game is marksmanship and exorcism, sorta. All of his attacks are Spirit-based, which inflicts extra damage to evil beings such as Zombies, Ghosts and things of that nature. This idea is similar to the Guns used by the Detective in is Vampire-Revenge storyline in the anime. Alan uses a gun.

Alan's ancestor was a member of Kodzuno Tenkai's Kidou-shu back in the Bakumatsu era. And now you know!

Now, for the anime, I have no idea. I'm going to assume he hears the whispering of the wind, or some shit like that. His power seems to be moving really fast, maybe? I don't believe it ever says why he's in Japan. Let's chalk it up to "FATE WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS"

Yeah, they really should have given him more focus. I don't like Alan's character, at all, and I've complained that there are too many characters in this show, but Alan really needed more screentime. It might be different if they didn't place such a huge emphasis on the Four Gods and whatnot (In the game, only Kouryuu is really the only one who matters. Byakko gets his big entrance and all, but Seiryuu, Genbu and Suzaku are just sort of there and optional recruits)...

As much as I dont like how anti-dramatic the last 2 episodes are, it somehow makes me feel sad seeing them happy and all that, only knowing what would happen to them, namely Hiyuu-chan.

Thanks for the info about the soundtrack Christnekoff, theres just a few bits of it that are so damn cool, (like the violin fight-music of doom) and I've been hopefully copy/pasting kanji into Amazon Japan for months without getting anywhere...

I hope they animate the Bakumatsu chapter, and if the shiny ghost is a clue rather than a wtf moment to confuse the likes of me, maybe they will. I'd love to see it (Bakumatsu + demons = awesomeness, as anyone who watched Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohaniheto doth know...) but it would be a completely different kind of show to this, so maybe they won't get the budget..

episode 12 was laaaame. probably has more point to it subbed, but meh. still lame.
Didn't even get to see Hiyuu in a dress...
They really need to stop running out of animation budget at the end of seasons.. Mind you we can always skip those episodes without missing anything at all when the dvd comes out, so all is well.

I can't believe no one's covered Episode 13: By Your Side yet.

Wow, y'all, this one pretty much sucked.

No OP/ED this week, we jump right in with Hiyuu opening his eyes. He's laying down under the cherry tree with his head in Hirasaka Sayo's lap. Its like the cherry tree in the opening, except everything's white instead of black-ish. So guys, I guess that means Hiyuu died! He seems pretty surprised to be there. She smiles at him and says "You did well." He reaches up and touches her face.

Title.

When we return, Sayo's pretty far into a monologue about how she feels about Hiyuu. I'll give you the gist of it: She likes him! We also get clips of their brief courtship. Again. She ends her monologue with something to the effect of "I'm happy being by your side." Then she starts crying. Hiyuu sits up and looks at her. "Because... because..."

Alright, guys? Hey y'all. You're gonna need a drink for this part. Something strong. I'll wait.

No, go ahead. Drink it all. Then go back and get another. Drink that one too.

We good? Ok.

Marie Crea walks up HOLDING HANDS WITH THE A!PARENTS. You know, like in some of the flashbacks where lil!Hiyuu is holding hands with the A!Parents? Yeah. That. But at least we know she croaked too. Aw.

Hiyuu is, obviously very, very, very, very, VERY surprised at this. His mouth is open and he's just looking at them. Marie gets pissed that Hiyuu is with Sayo, and apparently uses some profanity because A!dad does that thing that parents in anime do when they pop their kids on the head. He says that a little lady doesn't speak that way, and Marie apologizes. Sayo wipes her eyes and giggles a little bit.

The A!Parents launch into this whole thing about being proud of Hiyuu. This is sort of a running theme for the episode. He stands up and hugs them and... cries?! He's saying he's sorry, over and over and over. The A!Parents are like "Don't cry, its okay, it isn't your fault, etc, etc, etc."

A very faint scream is heard, one that I didn't hear until someone pointed it out on 2chan. Kyouichi's voice is screaming "Tatsuma." in the background. This is apparently the first in the episode, and it progressively gets louder as the episode continues. (In fact, everytime you hear Kyouichi scream, the wind blows) Hiyuu doesn't notice it.

Commercial break, I suppose, because when we come back, Hiyuu's got his head back in Hirasaka's lap. But now, the A!Parents and Marie are also sitting with them. Sayo pats his head. This is a really long shot of the group just sitting there, the wind blows through two or three times.

Sayo repeats her line from before ("I'm happy being by your side, but..."). Hiyuu looks up at her, and she's got her sad face on. He starts to say something, but then he hears "HEY WHAT'S UP?" and... its Alan and Sera. Er. Um. Guess Alan died too, huh? Alan acts like... well, Alan for a while, then he gets all serious and looks Hiyuu in the face and is all "We did it."

The wind blows again, and Hiyuu finally realizes what's happened. We get some "real world" shots of the various characters as they died (Well, Hirasaka's is from the hospital right before Tendou intervene), we see the A!Parents lying in the street, covered in blood, we see Sera's body from when the hobos were crying over her, we see Alan keeled over at Sera's grave (this is an actual new scene!), and we see Marie Crea on the bridge. This is a really awkward scene, because he should have realized these guys were dead earlier, right? Oh well. Whatever Tokyo Majin Gakuen, whatever.

He stands up and is like "I'm sorry, because of me..." and they're like "No, no. Its FINE. Really. So what if I went blind and died alone and I suffered from a sickness that slowly killed me, ITS FINE. REALLY." Well, they don't say any of that, really, but they do give sappy speeches about how they wanted to protect the world, too. We get a flashback of the battle against Yagyuu, Final Part. Marie, Alan, Daigo and Kisaragi all flew up into the air with YagHiyuu, and performed a spell, I guess you'd say, that sealed Yagyuu in Hiyuu's body. It caused a huge surge of energy that pretty much blew all of them away. Then YagHiyuu disappeared into the sky. Eh.

The wind blows again, and Hiyuu looks up, because he hears Kyouichi's voice. He's surprised at this. Hirasaka stands up and walks over to Hiyuu, and is all like "They still need you." Hiyuu's eyes bug out, cuz he's all like "What do you mean?" Hirasaka's all like "I'm glad I got to see you. We'll see each other again, one day." Hiyuu's like "No, I wanna stay with you guys! I'm happy here."

Hirasaka gives him her trademark smile of sadness, and repeats her thing about him having to go because people are counting on him. Hiyuu looks around at everyone, who are all smiling and generally supportive, considering the fact that he's apparently going to get a second chance at life and none of them are. He sees a new couple off in the distance, a couple of semi-obscured people. We only see their mouths when they speak, but I'm gonna assume they're the Birth!Parents. They both say "Goodbye" and say they are (wait for it) "Proud of their son." D'aww.

Hiyuu genuinely looks confused by the situation. Like, conflicted confused, not his usual semi-autistic look of confusion.

Alan slaps him on the back and is all "Well, what are you waiting for? Get going!" and then Hiyuu starts saying his goodbyes to everyone. There are tears. Sera actually speaks, and says something like "Tell your friend thank you" which I guess is either directed at Komaki, for placing the smack down on her to get her under control, or St. Aoi, for bringing her back from the dead. After he says good bye to the a character, they fade away.
(Credits begin)
Hiyuu says good bye to Sayo last, and he gives her a hug. He cries (Goddammit) and says he doesn't want to lose her. She puts her hands on his arms and smiles and says he has to go. Hiyuu starts to slowly float into the air. He continues to reach out to Sayo. Then he starts screaming, "Hirasaka! Hirasaka!" and tries to reach back down to her. She closes her eyes and cries, holding her arms up. She opens them and is surprised to see that Hiyuu has grabbed ahold of her left arm. He screams over and over that he doesn't want to lose her, and pretty soon she's floating up into the sky with him. He embraces her and they float into the bright light of shinyness.

Back in the real world, Kyouichi struts back up to Magami Gakuen. St. Aoi comes down to greet him, asking if he found anything. They're both still wearing their school uniforms, so I guess he wasn't gone that long. Or maybe he just didn't have a change of clothes, and maybe Aoi is still wearing her's because its sort of become the staff uniform at the Magami Gakuen shelter? Maybe? Let's go with that.

They're standing out in front of the cherry tree of suspiciousness, and suddenly, there's a huge explosion (remember the explosion in season 1, episode 1? With the baby and all? Yeah, that) under the tree. When the dust settles, Aoi and Kyouichi look up to see Sayo and Hiyuu, hugging each other, crying. Aoi and Kyouichi's mouths drop. Kyouichi's mostly because he's seeing his man hug a girl. Hiyuu and Sayo turn around, and see Kyouichi and Aoi looking at them. The four stare at each other and the episode ends.

...yeah, y'all, that was terrible. I can't describe it in words, but there's a distinct lack of animation going on, and lots of clips, and I get the feeling that it was rushed out the door due to a negative response and OH OKAY it isn't a real episode, I just wanted to see how long I could keep you going before you were like "NO THIS IS FAKE YOU ARE A LIAR. Nope, you're going to have to forever wonder about Hiyuu's fate, as well as deal with the terrible "Thank You" episode. Sorry guys!

Heh, well I'm not blaming you or anything. The series really sucked in the end. At least they destroyed my hopes of an Aoi x Hiyuu end. I would have rooted for Sayo as well but in the anime she's supposed to be very dead. Pft, and that St. Aoi crying in Kyouichi's arms scene does not sit well with me at all. I kept replaying that scene and I kept wondering if Aoi was worried about Kyouichi leaving or really wanting to look for Hiyuu or she just wanted to be emo.

Like who are the girls Hiyuu gets to end up with (forget abt Kyouichi's route) and whether the endings are the love-love types or just simple mindfucking endings or just hello-goodbye plain endings? So, the game is different in that Tokyo doesn't get destroyed and Hiyuu doesn't disappear into parts unknown. He's present at Graduation, and right before Graduation, Kyouichi basically asks you who you want to see afterwards. Then the game runs a little check to see if you've met the requirements of that character's ending. If you do, you get to go on to the little epilogue chapter with that character. If you don't, Kyouichi will show up and you'll go and get ramen.

In the original game, you could only choose out of the main four characters (Daigo, Aoi, Kyouichi or Komaki). If you chose Kyouichi or Daigo, and hadn't met their ending requirements, they'd still show up and you'd go get ramen with them (which was like, "Hey, let's go to the ramen place." THE END.)

Anyway, the expansion disc came out and it contained endings for like, the entire cast.

Alright, so:
The male endings are all sort of ambiguous, where it could be interpreted as the gay or the "We're just really good friends!" The female endings are all pretty much straight up "I'm in love with you, Hiyuu!"

The endings take the form of an epilogue chapter, where you and that character go off to do something. Like, in Marie Crea's, you go to the park and walk around, and you have a little conversation (well, as much as you can with a silent protagonist). At the end of the epilogue, the girls pretty much confess their love for you, and the guys give you a little talk about how you're important to them. Like, Alan, I believe, says something like "You give me strength and courage!" (In English, because he's Mexican. Yes, I know). Its nothing like, say, School Days (is that the right game?) where the endings are actually different in terms of plot.

As for a list of characters its possible to end with: Essentially, anyone who's a good guy and is alive. And vaguely pretty.
(An * denotes that the character is not in the anime, and a lot of characters don't even get a special CG. Note that these are from the expansion disc's gallery mode, which has the images all scruntched up for some reason).
