Your Email Policy
Spam.
Viruses. Nigerian letters and scam-attempts. Those are the problems of email of today, so it is no wonder that people are using several email accounts. My question is, how many do you have and how do you use them? One for spam, one for real messages? Do you change you email at whim or do you stick with it even if the spammers have found it? Myself, I have three accounts. One is for public messages, where it can end up being spammed, second I got as a side-deal of my Internet-account, and third is for the important messages (like the ones from uni/job). Still, I hardly ever get spam, as I never give out the address without a good reason -even though I get a weekly letter from a dating service that has somehow guessed the address ("Click here to unsubscribe!" Right...) I usually abandon the account if the number of spam becomes more than three in a day. And you? |

Hm, I have two. Hotmail and Internet-sourced. I sign up for a crapload of stuff with my hotmail account and the junk-mail filter takes care of it fine. So I really have no use for my internet-sourced one except for family members who can't remember my hotmail address.

I have 4 e-mail address:
1) One provided by UT Austin that I use for school and work related purposes. No spam on it (yet). 2) One provided by Purdue (former undergrad schoo) that I use for large attachments (I have a 500MB quota ). I receive spam on it daily. 3) My Allacrost e-mail for things related to my project *points to sig*. No spam yet. 4) My new GMail account that I havent...quite decided what to use it for yet. I'll probably use it for signing up to all those website forms and stuff when I need it. No spam on this one. *EDIT: I forgot I have another one * 5) An account with Earthlink, who is my (crappy, unreliable, deserves to burn in hell) ISP. I check it about once every.....well actually I've just checked it once. Its still there though...I think Last edited by Roots; 2004-07-11 at 20:21. |

I have about 12 email accounts. Bear with me for a while as I explain what they all do:
1. My personal email account. 2. My webmaster email account at boneyjellyfish.com 3. My hotmail account that I use for signing up for stuff 4. My gmail account that I made to sign up for something that wouldn't accept hotmail 5. Another hotmail account that I have as the main account in Outlook Express (I don't use that program anymore, though) 6-12. A few years ago an MMORPG from Microsoft came out that had a free trial that also didn't require a credit card. The problem was that in order to use the trial, you had to use a unique email address at microsoftgamesstudios.com or something like that. I signed up for one and never got around to playing it. That's #6. Then I signed up for another one after that free trial expired and played it for a couple of days before becoming busy. After that trial expired, I made another one and played it a bit every day. I pretty much kept going and going until I became bored of creating new characters. The end. |

I don't know why people get spam all the time, but in general key is to know where you display it.
I.E. showing it here, unless someone hates you it will remain somewhat hidden from the outside world unless they look for it. Now giving Hotmail your another email name will result in spam, because those people sell you out. I have 2 Email account. 1. Is www.mail.ru (@mail.ru) This address is going on its 5th year and I only receive what I signed up for, no more no less. 2. Is my ISP provider and I use it solely for those places where they want proof of a real email. This account gets occassional crap because ISP sell you out in general, Im pretty sure mine states that in their agreement statement. |
