MSN News: Astronomer finds new moon orbiting Neptune

For all the exploration we've done in the Solar System, good to see that it can still provide more surprises than we think. Though how we've missed that moon after all this time amazing

If it turns out that's no moon, we're in trouble.

It's obviously a starship equipped with an experimental FTL drive that went missing years ago but has returned....

IQ test: 'Artificial intelligence system as smart as a four year-old':

"Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago have applied an IQ test to MIT's
ConceptNet 4 artificial intelligence system, and determined it's about as smart as a
somewhat-challenged four-year-old child."

Brave New Interface: A Fleet of Dust-Sized Sensors Embedded In Your Brain:

"A few weeks ago, we wrote about a tiny micro-bot designed to be injected into a
patient’s eye and controlled via magnet—a speck-sized eye surgeon. This week, a
group of Berkeley researchers published a study positing a similar concept, except
the ‘bots are inside your brain. And they’re the size of dust particles. It’s called neural
dust. Of course."

CIA Funding Study To Develop Climate Control Technology:

"As it becomes increasingly evident that the effort to meaningfully curb carbon
emissions is doomed, some of those in the security services are looking for alternative
avenues to control the threat of climate change. The CIA, for instance, is funding a
scientific study to see if humans could develop technology to stop or diminish climate
change."

15 Real Sci-Fi Technologies About to Change the World:

"We've all come out of a sci-fi movie wishing we had whatever cool gadget the hero
was killing aliens with. Fortunately, our readers dug up some technologies that will

‘Superman’ crystal memory could outlast civilization:

"Using nanostructured glass, scientists at the University of Southampton in the UK
have, for the first time, experimentally demonstrated the recording and retrieval
processes of five dimensional digital data by femtosecond laser writing.

The storage allows unprecedented parameters including 360 TB/disc data capacity,
thermal stability up to 1000°C and practically unlimited lifetime.

The memory crystal is an incredibly advanced form of computer memory.

It can store digital information across five dimensions: the three dimensions of space,
and two extra dimensions (polarization and intensity) facilitated by crystal lattice."

I'm sure I'll get that 360TB filled up in no time with upcoming 4k anime.
Now where do I get my direct hook into glassfibre backbones...

Glassfibre you say?:

Hollow fiber optic cable tops 73Tbps, promises near-light speeds:

"Researchers hailing from England's University of Southampton claim to have
discovered a method for transferring data near the limits of our Universe -- 99.7
percent the speed of light. Their secret? A flexible fiber optic cable with a vacuously
hollow interior. The feat promises speeds greater than 73 terabits per second making it
thousands of times faster than even the best, existing fiber optic links -- even if only at
short distances."
