Yeah, this is what I suspected. I'm guessing they may have a bit of a recap in the first episode to bring people up to speed (given that it has been so long since the last anime), but then move into the new manga.

The way the 2nd manga is going now I think they could easily adapt the whole thing in a 26 episode adaptation and end both together if they wanted to.

Well, based on the broadcaster and production team, I'd say the odds of this being a 2-cour show are pretty much nil. But that doesn't mean they can't have a second (well, fourth) season at some point sooner rather than later.

WHAT!? Wow I am pleased to see this showing up! It's been so long and even so I always thought about it on occasion. I was in high school when I watched this... (now I feel really old )

Well I can't wait now, this season just got WAY better for me when i was thinking there was nothing that jumped out at me

Yea it was for me too...they made all these rules about the curse, then shoved them off inexplicably when they got in the way and it turned into a

They killed off every single named character they could just because is how it felt, it lost all meaning to me. The rules of the curse should have never existed if they were just gonna ignore it and make exceptions the entire time.

True, they killed off every character that I liked; and a lot of people died in some seriously demented ways.
Besides, how exactly did they succeed in saving the class, if all but 5 members died?
I'm pretty sure that more students survived in the previous incidents.

Yep, it's a retelling/reboot. Zurückspulen is the German word for rewind. I'm disappointed since the 2nd season ends badly for certain characters and left their fate up in the air.

I guess it's more like an "alternate universe", that may still have ties back to the original universe.

("Re-wind" is a pretty clever subtitle for this show.)

From what I understand there was a dispute between the anime producers and publishers of the manga. The anime Overtook the Manga and went to its own conclusion in season 2 while the manga went on hiatus for months until it was finally Cut Short with a Deus ex Machina (and an apology for doing so).

A new manga series is currently being published under the name Rozen Maiden Tale. It's an alternate universe story starring a much older Jun Sakurada, which follows what would have happened if Jun had responded "do not wind" to the initial letter, and crosses over with the original universe.

Spoiler for A few chapters later in the manga:

After a few chapters, the story then shifts back to the original Jun via a bridge-arc and the plot resumes where the original Manga ended, making Tales, despite what it initially looked like, an actual continuation instead of an Alternate Universe spin-off.
