Sad, but true. When RH got broken in A's I was all "holy shit!" The Strike Cannons breaking? "Useless overrated pieces of crap!"

At least the Strike Cannon can perform various tasks. It can be a cannon, a replacement sword, a can opener, a doorstop, a replacement chairleg, a rack, an impromptu surf table and many other useful stuff.

Lily might not always be able to unison with Touma, so it makes sense to give her combat training and her own weapon.

The AEC equipment isn't ready for mass production just yet; the Bureau and Caledfwlch are still working out all the bugs.

It's attached to his forearm, and leaves his hand free. Kinda like Ashley Riot's design, sorta. If he wanted to, he could grip the Strike Cannon and use it, although the claws would get in the way.

No, the only somewhat reasonable reasoning reason that I can think of for him to have a Strike Cannon is that the TSAB wants him to be able to fight without using the Eclipse, or his Black Knight armor.

And, well, given, if he were separated from Lily, or his infection became rampart, it would probably be an alright idea for him to not start having to rely upon Mr Fly Agaric.

He doesn't always has to use the shield. Hell, we could go for the impractical and have them attached to the sides of his hips. Then we can make Freedom Touma jokes all day long.

Why do people keep thinking that a failed prototype is immediately scrapped? That's the idea behind a prototype: you see what needs improving and then you improve it.

"These cannons you sold us? Worthless. Three of them broke in the first battle. We've given the next batch to a couple of kids. If they manage to survive a couple of kids, then maybe, just maybe, we might consider ordering another batch. But the next batch better have some quality behind them."
