Vector Preview's hiding place Spoiler for Save space (again x infinity):
I actually wanted to have a flashier title but just so I happen to remain nab 4ever or slack off, I didn't. Anyway, I'm just starting to learn GIMP (actually, for quite a while but never get around to it), and it's a no brainer that I'm very nab at it right now. Well, I couldn't find anything to start with so I began with a render... It's actually my first render using path tool in GIMP and some manual erasing. I rendered it from this one: http://img253.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ud00147we7.jpg Criticism, and suggestion for improvement are welcome. I think I erased the part near the tail too much. (and some parts look jaggy) I actually wanted to create sigs but didn't know where to start, lol But I created a thread any way in hope to stop the loop of: "Going to learn tommorow", "going to learn at the end of the weekend", etc. Well, you can guess ...

Considering this is your first render.
It is not bad. Not bad at all. I see some of the lines are missing...maybe you could fix that up..oh, scratch that..I actually just noticed that the original was missing lines. Anyways. I think you did a good job~ |

Quite good for a first render. Since some part are missing a line i think the best thing is to just delete the small line at the hair that has a line. And the hair shape isn't as natural as the original one, and slightly pixelrated edges. But other than that. It's very nice for your first one.
And you even fixed the white thing near her ear ^.^

Second attempt at render...
Jagged edges again... didn't see those while doing it though. And man, those one pixel-thin (I think) hair. ;_; Rendered from: http://img227.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ud00147iv9.jpg The picture looks nice so I wanted to make a good render out of it... too bad I couldn't do it. EDIT: And lol, forgot to erase the part near the hair on top left...

I might use one cuz I was looking for some shana ones to make. ^___^ and TODAY ONLY if u become a Miku hugger I will make a sig for u =P EDIT: Oh and advice for next time u save ur render. if u don't want to get noticable hard edges then try doin KiNa's Tutorial in the Sig/Ava Tutorial thread. Its on the first page.

And....
Double Post!! Anyway, 3rd attempt at rendering: Rendered from: http://img159.imageshack.us/my.php?image=070225ko7.jpg I think I've done a pretty good job on this render. I'm actually quite proud of it =P. Just learned a new method and it's faster (and more efficient) than making path + manual erasing. This one took about 1 hour and 10 minutes as oppose to the 1st and 2nd renders, which each took me about 2 hours... Anyway, I won't be able to stay awake in class, lol... 4:20 AM ...

4:20 AM? East Coaster huh
Well, not a bad render by any means, especially since the source picture is so small. I would just say that some lines are too thick, so maybe you might want to erase a little more. Other than that, nice renders. =] Did I give you a cookie for opening your thread? No i dont think so p.s. another miku-hugger is here so another person with the green haired girl in your thread

The render looks nice, but as icy pointed out, some of the outlines are really thick. And i would suggest feathering the edges of the flames a bit to make it less hard and more flame like. Will be a bit tricky at the hair tough

Revision to Render #3:
I thinned the lines and feathered the flame edges. Either my eyes suck or I do not know how to feather since I can't see the difference to the flame... ;_; Making the line thinner through manual erasing (sort of) was a pain, but I don't know how to redraw stuff. EDIT: Someone please point out what I did wrong for the feathering, lol... I just simply select all the flame with lasso tool and did Feather Selection...

Those renders are interesting, specially the third one, I like them, the second one is a bit strange in some way, I'm not too fond to that style of Shana (that's a personal opinion, but still...), maybe you should revise it, dontcha? Change the brightness style and color buff stuff.
PS: I think you should copy them all to the first post and under spoiler marks ^^

And I can't do anything about the style of Shana, lol ... All I did was simply extracting her from the background of an image I find somewhere else. Thanks for the advice about copying them to first post, I may or may not do it, though. Anyway, my first three attempts at making gif a couple of months ago (dunno why I stopped immediately afterward): #1: #2: #3: As above, criticism is welcome. The 1st I think I didn't zoom in enough. The 2nd one's color doesn't look very good (after the process of optimizing). The 3rd one is not even AS safe but the motions look strange. I can't find an image to practice rendering, and I don't know how to do sig so that's it for now I guess. (dam, I'm starting to lack off in my learning already )

Meh... Shana + Clannad + schoolwork + Ubuntu + forums make a deadly combo ._.
Anyway... back to learning after... nearly 1 month lol <.< Some gifs: One render... Well, "advanced" from prehistoric gimp user to ancient gimp user, I guess...
