Assuming that individual tournament and Team tournament use the same rules set and they don't change the rules this year. Time 6.43-6.47 of ep.9 tell us that they don't use "parenchan" rules in this competition as the eighth win doesn't count as Yakuman.

EDIT: *Go to check to rule* Ah, that right. I forgot that you have to be dealer. Also, I seem to misunderstand that its 9th win not 8th for parenchan.

No teru indeed win 9 times in a row but parencan only starting to count only when you sit as dealer so in that magazine it's only counted 7 win and no 8th since the 4th player already dead.

Oh man Teru is beyond scary. Hope Kuro can do something at least.

By "4th player", you mean her right?

"Not dead until proven dead or seen the dead body." It is one of the main rules in the animeverse.

I wonder if Toki can see with both eyes going "Geass+Innovation" mode...? (But then, if both eyes are, then she becomes a true innovator.)

Remember all the suggestions I made in the previous page.

1 who sees the next move/2 moves later vs 1 who can tell whats your waits.

Each has each different strengths and weaknesses though. Since we know the strength, lets see the weaknesses.

Toki's weakness: Reading the next move/2 moves later is against all but can't tell whats happening after that. Also, the enemy can bend the future at will.(A.k.a Teru.)

Kyaputen's weakness: Easy. If the enemy's starting hand is tenpai already, and he/she double riichi, the skill will have to wait a few turns later.(Since she reads by reading the discards usually.) God knows whether the enemy is in tenpai or not...

What do you guys think would be the hardest possible match-up for Teru given all the (non-pro) characters we've seen so far in the anime itself?

In other words, Teru vs. ? vs. ? vs. ?, where those three opponents would prove to be the hardest possible combination of opponents for Teru to face.

I have Saki and Stealth Momo near or at the top of my list, but after that I'm not so sure (admittedly, with Stealth Momo, it would depend on which power trumps the other; Teru's power could conceivably trump Momo's making Momo just an above average opponent with nothing special going for her; but if Momo's power trumps then she has quite a valuable invulnerability against Teru's 'sight' power).

Given the narrative conventions, it's likely that the ONLY person who has a chance against Teru is Saki herself. Otherwise it might involve characters that haven't appeared in either anime yet -- the girls from Eisui, including their monster Jindai Komaki, her "medium" Iwato Kasumi, or the ones from Rinkai.

Unfortunately since none of them actually placed against Teru in the individuals (remember, the second placer is Arakawa Kei), it has to be someone that Teru hasn't faced before in any national match...

Koromo's Iishanten Hell ability might be able to slow Teru down.

But really. It's hard when we don't know the full extent of Teru's mirror ability.

No, Koromo won't work, since it's been mentioned (not in the anime though), that Teru still managed to outscore her in their match.

Well, I just meant this as a (hopefully) fun, little thought experiment, similar to, say, pro boxing fans wondering what the hardest possible opponent for a young Muhammad Ali would be. Nothing too serious. It's something I raised due to the pro sports fan in me as much as the anime fan in me.

Thanks for the replies, Myssa Rei and Qilin. You both raised good points.

We don't know the true function of the mirror ability... We know one thing, the han increases as she wins. So if she start from 1000, her next one can be anything higher than that. Once it hits sanbaiman..., get ready for YAKUMAN MADNESS!!

Teru must have used that ability against Koromo, hence Koromo can't win.

Yumi has a flexible playstyle... So if she got the records of Teru's play, she will find out how.

Like Rei said, Koromo's got defeated by Teru last time... Even with Iishanten Hell also no use.

Can I pick Kyotaro? If I am not wrong he has Geass...

Well, in fairness to Kyuu, just because Koromo got defeated by Teru doesn't necessarily mean she didn't do better against Teru than other people might have.

That being said, your idea with Yumi is interesting.

Perhaps Teru vs. Saki vs. Yumi vs. Hisa would be the toughest possible match for Teru, because Yumi and Hisa are excellent mahjong tacticians/strategists. If there's any skill-based strategy that can be employed against Teru, then Yumi and Hisa would have a decent chance of finding it (and they're both smart enough to 'read the play' and form productive alliances to isolate a key opponent).

That is, if Hisa does not make it very obvious that she is waiting for bad waits...

Was it explicitly mentioned that they played against each other?

Also, as Triple R says, even if Koromo lost, her ability must have had some kind of effect on Teru.

As for Yumi and Hisa... Their tactics might be effective, but the problem is that unlike, Saki, Teru's hands are a lot less predictable, though the score limitation is probably the key to predicting her hand).

Teru was captain in the previous year's Group tournament.

Then, how in the hell did Koromo not make friends?

Spoiler:

'cause from what I gathered -- Koromo acted as if no one was able to beat her.
