You know just like how we never saw Kensei's bankai or his fight with wonderweice, We wont see isshin bankai either. You cant do attacks like that unless you release your sword.
Kubo is skipping a lot of stuff that the anime may cover yet that could be contradicted later on. I dont believe Isshin's sword is constantly released, Hes a skilled shinigami who can hide his spiritual pressure. Ichigo does not have this control which is why his sword is so big. Kubo is just phoning it in now.

i was wondering whether ishiin's zanpakuto looked shorter than when he was first revealed to be a shinigami (former or otherwise)
Spoiler for manga:
i remembered his sword was much longer when he forst fought grand fisher in the anime - maybe he's already in shikai mode? as far as i'm aware, zanpakuto abilities are only available in shikai and bankai. long post, but it was niggling in my mind a little. EDIT: i think i should edit the images a little, they're quite big

I'm really wondering what's up with Bleach. One Piece started and finished its awesome War arc in 31 chapters, but Kubo has been going for close to 90 chapters with no end in sight... and the story progression feels so fake. I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that Tousen and the Espada are dead
But yeah, back to this chapter: I definitely think Gin has his eye on the hogyoku. He definitely isn't a good guy, what with the whole killing Hiyori thing, but he's not going out of his way to help Aizen here either. Aizen still has his bankai left... so I realy wish this arc would just end so we can get a change in scenery. How are Yammy, Kenpachi and Byakuya doing? |

i always took that to mean he that he treats his zanpakuto different than others treat theirs. not that there were other people with the same zanpakuto as his.
either way, there is a LOT of awkward wording all over that page, so /shrug

I got thrown off by it being called a "shinigami tradition"... that made it sound like it was more like a pointless matter of pride and tradition than having actual valid reasoning behind it... like as if they demanded that all of their shimigami must be unquie... y'know excluding the thousands of nameless clones ofcourse |

So has everyone that's been complaining about Isshin using a Zanpakuto move without being in at least Shikai totally forgotten about Urahara shooting a laser at Aizen when his zan was still sealed?

I think Urahara went shikai during page 9 of chapter 403. Notice the shape of the hilt changes from one panel to the next just as things are about to heat up. Then on pg 12 , the cane shape of the handle is replaced with the handle of a normal zan (which is the same appearance Benihime has in it's released state). I'm not sure whether to consider it bad writing or clever editing on Kubo's part. But it is what it is I guess.

Might've just been more hax Urahara technology at work (or a simple kido spell). In any case, sorry for the misunderstanding Gin. |
